Ahead of their highly anticipated Aug. 26 fight, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor received invitations to appear on WWE Raw from Superstar Triple H on Tuesday.
In an interview with Sky Sports (h/t Luke Brown of the Independent), The Game praised both competitors and expressed his belief that they could benefit from showing up on Raw:
“One thing Floyd Mayweather is, is entertaining. One thing Conor McGregor is, is entertaining, and it’s funny that you say it’s sports entertainment. I’d invite both guys to showcase what they do on Monday Night Raw because there is no bigger platform that they can have to show the world, and tell the world, who they are and why they’re the man.”
Mayweather has a significant advantage entering the fight since he is a perfect 49-0 as a boxer, while McGregor has never had a professional boxing match, but the Cerebral Assassin fully understands the appeal of the showdown:
“All sports is entertainment, the news is entertainment today, it’s just the way of the world. This is what people do with their time. It’s no different. I think there is an interest level there. Can a world-class boxer, probably the best ever, can he stand in the ring with an MMA guy, and can that MMA guy bring his striking skills up to the level of someone, like say, a Floyd Mayweather? The one thing it will be, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is entertaining.”
While Mayweather and McGregor are both known for their athletic excellence in their respective sports, they reached prominence due in large part to their ability to talk trash and promote themselves.
That makes them ideal fits for the world of professional wrestling.
McGregor ruffled some feathers last year when he spoke ill of WWE and its performers when asked on a conference call if he would ever consider signing with the company:
“I have thought about [WWE]. For the most part, I think these guys are p—ies, to be honest. They’re messed-up p—ies if you ask me. Fair play to Brock [Lesnar]; he got in and fought, but at the end of the day, he was juiced up to the f–king eyeballs. How can I respect that?”
As for Mayweather, he already has experience with WWE, as he faced and defeated Big Show in 2008 at WrestleMania 24 in Orlando, Florida.
Raw could be an ideal venue for a face-to-face altercation between Mayweather and McGregor, while WWE’s flagship show would certainly receive a massive ratings boost under those circumstances.

During a workout Wednesday in preparation for his Aug. 26 clash with Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather employed some self-motivational tactics.
According to TMZ Sports, the 40-year-old veteran repeated to himself, “You name him. I beat him,” throughout an hour-long workout at Ten Goose Boxing Gym in Van Nuys, California.
With plenty of media present, Mayweather also made it clear that he intends to rise to the occasion on the big stage:
“I be trying to tell ya’ll … I can get a black eye, a bloody nose. I can have a bad day in the gym. At the end of the day, I don’t have a bad payday and I don’t have a bad night under the lights. … I get bumps, bruises … but I don’t have a bad night.”
The dream bout between Mayweather and McGregor was finalized last week after a great deal of public posturing over the past several months.
Per ESPN’s Dan Rafael, UFC president Dana White said on SportsCenter that the fight will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Aug. 26 and be contested at a weight limit of 154 lbs.
Mayweather is formerly the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, and he will enter the event with a perfect professional record of 49-0.
Although Mayweather hasn’t fought since 2015, McGregor has never been involved in a professional boxing match.
The current UFC lightweight champion is a plus-400 (4-1) underdog, according to OddsShark, while Mayweather is a minus-600 (17-100) favorite.

For the first time since Floyd Mayweather Jr. confirmed the Aug. 26 superfight versus Conor McGregor, Money commented on the highly anticipated bout.
As seen in the following video courtesy of Black Sports Online, on the red carpet at Wednesday’s All Eyez on Me premiere, Mayweather expressed excitement for the upcoming fight:
“People all around the world demanded this fight, so I had to give the people what they wanted to see,” Mayweather said. “They asked for this fight. I was retired, but they wanted me back, and I’m back.”
Per ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael, UFC President Dana White told SportsCenter the fight will take place in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena and air on Showtime pay-per-view.
When asked about the negotiations, Mayweather would only say that both sides were pleased with the way things went down: “Both parties are very happy. He’s very happy, I’m very happy, and I can’t wait.”
Mayweather opted not to talk any trash to McGregor despite the fact that he largely built his career with verbal sparring, and he closed by calling McGregor a “hell of a competitor.”
It didn’t take McGregor long to prod Mayweather, though, as he tweeted a photo of himself and Floyd Mayweather Sr. after the fight was announced:
The 40-year-old Mayweather has been retired since beating Andre Berto in September 2015 and improving his career record to 49-0.
Despite that, he still has a significant upper hand since McGregor has never had a professional boxing match.
According to OddsShark, Mayweather is a -600 (17-100) favorite, while McGregor is a +400 (4-1) underdog.
