Tank Abott and Dan Severn Have Joined Forces For the Mother of All Freakshow Fights

Not to sound selfish, but the recent near-death of Dada 5000 following his Bellator 149 scrap with Kimbo Slice has really taken a lot of fun out of this whole “freakshow fight” concept. Up until that (nearly) fateful evening in February, the fact is that freakshow fights had produced nothing but wholesome, entertaining, and legitimate results LITERALLY 100 PERCENT OF THE TIME. Now, we’ve been forced to act all “thoughtful” and “humane” each time one of them is booked like a bunch of vegan hipster pussies.

Thank God there are still “real” men and “real” promotions out there who don’t give a f*ck about things like safety regulations and common sense, or our sport would probably have fallen prey to Bernie Sanders’ socialist PC zeitgeist libtard pacifist gun control bureaugamy by now. We’re talking about men like Tank Abbott and Dan Severn, and promotions like UR Fight, the latter of which recently booked the two aging UFC vets to throw down as part of what may very well be the most insane event ever scheduled. ‘Murica!

Details after the jump.

Details after the jump.

You see, while the Reebok-endorsed feminazi colony of bruised-footed namby-pambys known as the UFC can barely scrape together one decent main event for the average card, UR Fight has gone ahead and booked FOUR main events for its inaugural pay-per-view on March 20th. Count ‘em, four.

MAIN EVENT #1: Former boxing great Roy Jones Jr. vs. a fan 5-3 MMA fighter Vyron Phillips, in a boxing match with $100,000 on the line if Phillips wins

MAIN EVENT #2: Ray Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle in professional wrestling match

MAIN EVENT #3: Michael Bisping vs. Chael Sonnen in a grappling-only match

MAIN EVENT #4: 57-year-old Dan Severn vs. 50-year-old Tank Abbott in an MMA fight

Do you think that the trailblazers over at UR Fight seem concerned about the “moral dilemma” or “repercussions” of having a man with literally zero boxing experience face a legend of the sport, or that Michael Bisping has “technically” been medically suspended for 180 days following his fight with Anderson Silva, or that Abbott and Severn’s combined age is greater than most California redwoods? FUCK NO THEY AREN’T, and that’s how business should be done!

Look, this might be difficult for all you social-justice-crusading, neckbearded keyboard warriors to understand, but if two people want to fight in a cage instead of on an Interweb forum, then these so-called “athletic commissions” are pretty much powerless to stop them. The same goes for the promotions, who outside of sending both parties to a therapist (or some other gutless treatment meant for non-alphas) can really only provide them with a place to throw down and slap a reasonable price tag on the proceedings…say, $11.99. THIS IS A FACT.

And while we’re dropping truths, we should point out that Dan Severn has been calling for a senior’s…pardon me…”Masters” division in MMA for some time now, and with Ken Shamrock too busy healing from the bruised vagina that Royce Gracie gave him, the honor of facing him has fallen on Tank Abbott, a dyed-in-the-wool, true-blue patriot if there ever was one.

So if you consider yourself an American — Hell, if you even consider yourself a red-blooded human being — then it is your civic duty to go to the UR Fight website, pony up the necessary 11 dollars and 99 cents and watch this fight with a foam finger in one hand and a Pabst Blue Ribbon in the other on March 20th. #TRUMP2016 bitches!!!

Moving up in weight to challenge Nate Diaz at welterweight didn’t work out exactly how UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor planned, but the Irishman’s brash antics helped save one of the best pay-per-view cards of the year.

What McGregor did at UFC 196 this past Saturday was nothing short of legendary. From fighting two weight classes higher to taking a Diaz brother on 11 days notice, “The Notorious” proved that he’s truly willing to fight anyone, anywhere, and at anytime.

But in the aftermath of his first promotional loss, albeit in a division he doesn’t officially occupy, McGregor’s overall work of art is called into question. How much of his success is legitimate and how much of it is a product of good timing, quick finishes and overzealous opponents?

Look no further. Here are five reasons why the 27-year-old is not the world beater we thought he was.

Glover Teixeira vs Rashad Evans Announced for UFC Fight Night: Details, Reaction

Rashad Evans will now reportedly fight Glover Teixeira at Fox UFC Fight Night in Tampa, Florida, on April 16 after it was confirmed his scheduled opponent, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, withdrew with an injury.

According to Damon Martin of Fox Sports, “UFC officials” confirmed the amendment to the card on Wednesday.

While fans will be disappointed not to see a longstanding score settled between Evans and Rua, Teixeira has shown a lot of quality in his recent outings.

The veteran Brazilian is enjoying a renaissance of sorts as of late, with two wins in his last two bouts. In August 2015, he halted exciting prospect Ovince Saint Preux, before scoring a technical knockout win over Patrick Cummins in November.

Here is a look at the kind of qualities the former UFC light heavyweight champion will have to cope with in the Octagon on April 16:

All eyes will be on Evans when he steps into the cage next month to see if he still possesses the magic. It’ll be just the second time he’s fought since November 2013, and in his return outing at UFC 192 against Ryan Bader in October, the 36-year-old looked far from impressive as he was defeated via a unanimous decision.

Should he fall short against an in-form opponent here, you do wonder whether or not Evans could ever be considered as one of the top light heavyweights in the world ever again. While Rua is a handy competitor, his withdrawal seems to have made Evans’ route back to the summit of the sport a little harder, with Teixeira a substantial roadblock.

According to Martin, the fight will remain on the bill’s main card as planned. Topping the lineup is the lightweight bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, who are each seeking to propel themselves toward a shot at champion Rafael Dos Anjos.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua recently suffered an undisclosed injury and was forced to withdraw from his Rashad Evans fight, booked for the UFC on FOX 19 event on April 16, 2016 inside Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Taking his place will be 205-pound slugger Glover Teixeira, according to UFC.com.

Evans (19-4-1) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Bader back in October, his first appearance after nearly two years on the injured reserves. Teixeira (24-4), meanwhile, is the winner of two straight, bagging and tagging Ovince Saint Preux and Patrick Cummins during his 2015 fight campaign.

No timetable has been set for Rua’s return.

UFC on FOX 19 will be headlined by the lightweight contender fight pitting Khabib Nurmagomedov against Tony Ferguson. Elsewhere on the card, Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson try to settle their light heavyweight score, while Michael Chiesa and Beneil Dariush hook ’em up for a spot in the 155-pound title chase.
