Ali Abdelaziz who manages Khabib Nurmagomedov has played down a potential rematch between ‘The Eagle’ and Conor McGregor.

Nurmagomedov beat Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October before announcing his retirement from the sport. Despite doubling down on his retirement claims Khabib’s future in the sport remains unclear, with UFC boss Dana White set to try to convince Nurmagomedov to fight on when the pair meet in Abu Dhabi prior to UFC 257. White recently went on record saying he is hopeful of making a rematch between Nurmagomedov and McGregor if the Irishman beats Dustin Poirier on January 23.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Abdelaziz was less optimistic about the potential match-up.

“(Would) beating Conor McGregor mean anything? I don’t know,” Abdelaziz said. “But I think it would mean a lot for the fans, and I think financially, it’s a huge fight. But we know Khabib. It’s hard to persuade him financially.

“But my man Dana White and Khabib, they’re going to meet,” Abdelaziz added. “I think they’re going to meet in Abu Dhabi, and after that, Khabib’s going to come to Vegas and they’re going to go to dinner in Vegas, and we’re going to figure it out. Like I said, this is big boys’ business. I’m going to let them do what they do, and I’ll be a fan.”

Nurmagomedov beat McGregor by fourth round submission at UFC 229. The win was pretty comprehensive and for that reason Abdelaziz says Khabib has no real motivation to run things back.

“He beat the (expletive) out of Conor,” Abdelaziz said. “He did everything he wanted to do. He beat him in the striking department, he beat him the wrestling department, he beat him in the grappling department. He broke his soul. He took his will.

“We don’t really care about him. Somebody might say $100 million or something like that. I don’t think would persuade Khabib if Khabib didn’t’t want to fight. I really don’t know. I really didn’t pressure Khabib or ask him about it too much. I let him be.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Ali Abdelaziz Wants Jose Aldo Fight For Cody Garbrandt If Not A Flyweight Title Shot

Garbrandt Aldo

If Cody Garbrandt doesn’t get the next flyweight title shot, manager Ali Abdelaziz would like to see him fight Jose Aldo at bantamweight.

Garbrandt was initially expected to challenge current flyweight king Deiveson Figueiredo in the UFC 255 headliner last month. However, he had to pull out due to injury with Figueiredo instead defending his title against Alex Perez before going on to fight Brandon Moreno to a majority draw at UFC 256 earlier this month.

With the five-round contest being one of the greatest fights in UFC history in addition to the inconclusive result, a rematch is the natural next step to take.

Of course, that would leave Garbrandt out of the title picture. However, Abdelaziz has another idea for him back at bantamweight in Aldo.

“I’m interested in Cody Garbrandt vs. Jose Aldo at 135 pounds,” Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie. “If the flyweight champ is available, 100 percent Cody is the No. 1 contender. That’s what Dana White says. If he’s not available, everybody is booked or coming from losses.

“I think Cody needs a fight to get him up, and I think Jose Aldo is a fight to get him up. I think that’s a five-round fight, main event. Why not?”

It’s certainly a great fight and would make sense in the grand scheme of things.

Aldo earned his first win at bantamweight following an impressive unanimous decision victory over Marlon Vera at UFC Vegas 17 last weekend. As a result, he is now ranked No. 6 while Garbrandt is No. 3.

However, if a title shot was available in either division, it’s a different story for Abdelaziz.

“No disrespect to the champs at ’25 or ’35, Cody is the biggest name in these two divisions,” Abdelaziz said. “He’s one of the biggest stars in either division. For the divisions to grow, they need names like Cody. Cody brings in the superstar factor. Win or lose or draw, it’s good for everybody.

“A healthy, focused Cody Garbrandt is a very dangerous Cody Garbrandt. I think he can beat anybody on any given night, as long as he is healthy and focused, and I believe he matches up with the champ at 125 very well. I think he’ll knock him out. I think stylistically, Cody is a very bad matchup for Petr Yan, too. To be honest with you, I think Cody, he fights Aldo, he wins, he goes down and fights at ’25 and then comes back and try to be a double champ.

“Cody is still 27 years old. He’s young. We think of Cody Garbrandt as an old guy, but now he has Chris Holdsworth and Mark Henry working together. He has an amazing team, and Danny Castillo and all those guys, they are all cooperating. They brought somebody like Mark Henry in, and they put all their great minds together. I think great things can only come out of there.”

Khamzat Chimaev

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz says his client and rising UFC star Khamzat Chimaev would beat former dual-weight champion Conor McGregor so bad the Irishman would end up in a wheelchair and in need of medical assistance for the rest of his life.

Ali Abdelaziz’s comments come after Chimaev stretched his undefeated record to 9-0 at UFC Vegas 11 this past weekend. The 26-year-old needed just 17 seconds and one punch to flatten long-time UFC middleweight Gerald Meerschaert.

Chimaev was lined up to face Demian Maia next but UFC president said the Swedish fight may take another bout before that. Abdelaziz was quick to rule out McGregor who he believes would come to serious harm if he stepped into the Octagon with Chimaev

“Khamzat would put Conor McGregor in a wheelchair, and he would drink from a straw for the rest of his life,” Abdelaziz told TMZ Sports.

“I’m not looking for Khamzat to fight a mentally unstable fighter. Conor McGregor is mentally unstable. I wish him the best of luck. Khamzat would kill him. He would really kill him.”

So who’s next for the UFC prospect? Who knows, but according to Abdelaziz even the best guys wouldn’t stand a chance against his man.

“Nate Diaz, (Jorge) Masvidal, some of these guys, I think he’d mop the floor with them too. I think he’ll beat the shit out of these guys. These guys are a little bit older, they’re veterans, they’re great fighters, but I think they’re levels to this.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Ali Abdelaziz has opened up on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fighting future.

Nurmagomedov is expected to headline UFC 254 against Justin Gaethje. It is a very interesting matchup and in the lead up to the fight, many wondered if “The Eagle” would even fight again after his father’s death. Yet, he is making a quick turnaround after the death and for Abdelaziz, he says Khabib is focused on creating his own legacy.

“We all kind of almost died the same time he died. We all shut down, but we understand Khabib’s father have a certain legacy, Khabib can retire now and have the biggest legacy we’ve ever seen,” Abdelaziz said to ESPN. “Certain goals, 30-0 and fight Justin and after that Georges St-Pierre. Right now, it is Justin Gaethje. I think Khabib right now he likes to compete, he likes to fulfill his father’s legacy. Khabib is still young, he is 31-years-old, he doesn’t have a lot of mileage. Khabib really wants to compete with Justin Gaethje and Justin Gaethje wants to compete with him.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov has mentioned he wants to retire at 30-0 and fight GSP. For Abdelaziz, he doesn’t know how much longer “The Eagle” will go but the champ realizes how dangerous Gaethje is.

“Honestly, of course, you aren’t going to see Khabib fight 10 more times in the UFC. Khabib right now, he made money, he made a legacy. I think all he cares about is Justin Gaethje,” he added. “If anybody out there are overlooking Justin Gaethje they are fools. Khabib is not a fool, Justin is not a fool, they are very smart individuals. There is a lot on the line. If Khabib goes out there and wins, nobody can touch him.”

Who do you think will win, Khabib Nurmagomedov or Justin Gaethje?
