Dillon Danis had to pay Bellator President Scott Coker for the rights to box KSI. Danis is best known as a former training partner of Conor McGregor who has gone 2-0 in MMA since 2018.

The MMA fighter Dillon Danis wanted to have a boxing match against YouTuber KSI but is still under contract with Bellator. Bellator promotes under Showtime while KSI promotes under DAZN. Danis planning to box against KSI on DAZN, Showtime didn’t like this. Because of that, Danis had to pay Bellator for the rights to do so.

Dillon Danis had to pay Scott Coker

In an interview on The MMA Hour, Danis explained the situation to Ariel Helwani. He said:

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about how I had to do that, because Showtime and DAZN are rivals, so I had to pay a hefty fee. It’s a lot of money. What I’m paying Coker to let me fight is more than probably every UFC [fighter makes]. I’m still with them. It would be different if I was with Showtime, because Showtime, they have a deal with them.”

Danis went on to explain that Bellator President Scott Coker was likely mad that his comeback fight was not in Bellator. He said:

“He wants me to come back to MMA, his star. Obviously, there’s no one in Bellator that’s going to bring that kind of noise. Who brings that much hype? I just think that he’s mad The big comeback should’ve been in MMA, which I agree, but why not just beat up a YouTuber for a f****** ton of money?” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting]

KSI and Dillon Danis are booked for a match for January 14 on MF & DAZN: X Series 004. This boxing match is booked for Wembley Arena, which has a 12,500 person capacity. Wembley Arena has also hosted The Masked Singer and multiple Bellator events.

Kyoji Horiguchi

Kyoji Horiguchi (30-5) is set to take on Hiromasa Oigikubo (25-6-2) in the flyweight feature bout at Bellator vs. Rizin on December 31st.

The historic event will feature a crossover between the two promotions, taking place at none other than the famous Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan. Leading up to the fight, Horiguchi took the time to speak with Lowkick MMA’s Alex Lerman about what this fight means to him, how he sees himself getting his hand raised at the end, and his future regarding Bellator and Rizin.

On fighting in Japan in front of his home country and fans, Horiguchi said:

“I’m ready to show how I fight in front of the Japanese fans.”

Horiguchi trains at talent-filled, high-level gym American Top Team in South Florida and recently bought a house there in 2019. When asked about his favorite part about living in America so close to his gym, Horiguchi responded:

“Because (it’s) very convenient, and also Florida has good fishing spots. I love fishing… bass fishing, any fishing.”

Moving on to the highly anticipated bout, Horiguchi was asked about his expectations for the fight against Oigikubo. Kyoji continued:

“I want a finish, doesn’t matter submission or KO. I want to try to finish him… I’ve improved my skills a lot everywhere, and I can fight this fight everywhere.”

Kyoji Horiguchi on his future at either promotion

Kyoji Horiguchi has fought for both Bellator and Rizin over the course of his experienced career. Given the circumstances of this crossover event and his history, Kyoji was asked about what the future would hold regarding which promotion he would fight for. Horiguchi had a very insightful answer to this, stating:

“I have no idea right now, but I want to keep fighting for Bellator and Rizin because they have a good friendship, you know. Other promotions don’t have this.”

To conclude the conversation with Horiguchi, he was asked who he would like to see in the cage next as an opponent, given the result of this bout against Oigikubo does go Kyoji’s way. Horiguchi was quick to answer:

“I’m focused on this fight, but I want to rematch Sergio Pettis and Patchy Mix.”

The two Bellator stars Pettis and Mix remain on the mind of Horiguchi. But like Kyoji said, his focus is on getting a finish on December 31st vs. Hiromasa Oigikubo in Japan. This can’t-miss, historic crossover event between Bellator vs. Rizin will be an event that all combat sports fans should tune into. Watch for the Feature Flyweight Bout, as Kyoji Horiguchi looks to add another win to his impressive record.

Judge who scored UFC 282 bout for Paddy Pimblett under review: ‘This is a very serious situation’

Doug Crosby, the judge who scored 29-28 in favor of Liverpool lightweight, Paddy Pimblett at UFC 282 last weekend, is under review as part of a “very serious situation” – after also scoring five rounds in favor of Danny Sabatello the night prior in the Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix in an eventual split decision loss to Raufeon Stots.

Crosby, alongside Chris Lee, and Ron McCarthy, all scored the UFC 282 co-main event bout between Paddy Pimblett and Gordon, 29-28 over the course of three rounds in favor of the former, as part of a unanimous decision win for Paddy Pimblett.

Paddy Pimblett’s victory was immediately met with shouts of “robbery”

Upon immediate reaction from the arena and across the mixed martial arts community, calls of “robbery” began to surface, with many claiming Gordon likely should have landed a victory – 29-28 in his own right.

However, Crosby’s judging has since come into further question, after the official scored all five rounds for the above-mentioned, Sabatello, in a perceived 50-45 scorecard against defending interim bantamweight champion, Stots at Bellator 289 the night before.

According to Mohegan Athletic Department Director of Athletics, Mike Mazzulli, Crosby as well as the two other judges who scored Sabatello’s fight with Stots are set to review the bout.

“One judge had Sabatello winning all five rounds, which is controversial,” Mike Mazzulli wrote in a statement. “But ultimately Stots won the decision, which is the correct result. In an effort to make this a learning moment, I have informed all three judges we will be reviewing the fight together.”

“This is a very serious situation,” Mazzulli wrote. “The Mohegan Tribe Athletic Department always looks out for the best interests in all fighters. In the past, the Mohegan Tribe Athletic Department has sanctioned officials that are not performing to the level that is required. Such sanctions, when they occur, are not made public.” (via MMA Fighting)

Making a successful transition to professional boxing last weekend on the undercard of welterweight champion, Terence Crawford’s return to the ring, current undisputed Bellator MMA featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg turned in a unanimous decision win over Gabrielle Holloway in her first professional outing in the sport.

Cyborg, a former Strikeforce, Invicta FC, and UFC featherweight champion, made a boxing outing earlier this year in a return to her native Brazil, defeating Simone Aparecida da Silva back in September in a unanimous decision victory.

Co-headlining beneath the aforenoted, Crawford’s knockout win over David Avanesyan in Omaha, Cris Cyborg managed to score a first professional win in the squared circle, defeating the aforementioned, Holloway in a unanimous decision (40-35, 39-36, 40-34) over the course of the dfour round limit.

Dropping 12-fight professional mixed martial arts veteran, Holloway in the third round, Cris Cyborg was unable to force the issue in the fourth and final round – however, managed to secure a unanimous decision triumph nonetheless

Yet to be booked since successfully defending her Bellator featherweight championship in a rematch against Arlene Blencowe back in April of this year, Cyborg has since become a free agent and is eligible to field offers from other promotions, however, is expected to re-up with the Scott Coker-led organization.

Cris Cyborg linked to potential fight with Irish star, Katie Taylor

Linked with a potential future boxing match against world champion, the undefeated Wicklow native, Katie Taylor in the future – Cyborg is recognised as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, having clinched championships in each of the four promotion’s she competed in during her time on United States soil.

A quadruple crown champion, Cyborg has landed notable professional victories over the likes of Shayna Baszler, Gina Carano, Marloes Coenen, Leslie Smith, Lina Lansberg, Tonya Evinger, Holly Holm, Yana Kunitskaya, Julia Budd, and Sinead Kavanagh to name a few.

Tensions are running high ahead of the upcoming Bellator 289 grudge match between Raufeon Stots and Danny Sabatello.

Stots and Sabatello are set to face off in the semi-finals of Bellator’s bantamweight tournament, in the main event of this weekend’s card. The rivalry between the two men has been well publicized in the build-up to this fight, with multiple near-physical altercations being captured on camera.

Raufeon Stots recently took the time to speak with LowKickMMA’s Joe Reynolds about the fight and rivalry, stating:

“I cannot wait, just because I know it’s gonna feel really good to see the look on his face… I think he’s had enough. I think he’s had enough of being around me, which tells me that he’s annoyed and I’m in his head. I don’t think he likes me – I enjoy the talking s**t because I know what’s gonna come. Like okay, your gonna talk s**t, but at the end of the day, I’m (going to) beat the s**t out of you. I enjoy it. Keep it coming, more fuel for my fire. Him, I don’t feel that he’s enjoying this, because I think he knows that at the end, there’s going to be a lot of pain involved.”

Raufeon Stots further ripped into Sabatello by stating that he finds it impossible to respect him as a man.

“It’s not personal, but it’s probably as close as you can get to personal for me,” said Raufeon Stots. “Outside me being in a tournament and fighting him, I have no reason to hate him. But I don’t like the way he carries himself. I don’t like the way he talks to other people. I don’t like the was he portrays himself – I don’t like those things. Like Josh Hill, Kieth Lee, a lot of these other guys, I can respect them as men. I can’t respect this guy as a man. And that’s why I call him a b***h a lot. I think he hides from adversity – not only in the fight but how he carries himself in day-to-day life. I think he also – Everything he says is kind of a facade to what he’s actually trying to accomplish. Just things I can’t align with.”
