Ben Askren shared his thoughts on the Anderson Silva vs Jake Paul boxing match scheduled for this weekend. ‘Funky’ has experience against ‘The Problem Child’ having been knocked out in their meeting in 2021.

Anderson Silva is an all-time great in MMA. Brazil’s ‘The Spider’ was the long-reigning middleweight champion in the UFC. He has since retired from the cage and entered the boxing ring. With wins over Julio César Chávez Jr. and Tito Ortiz, Silva will be entering his bout against Paul 2-0 in 2021.

Jake Paul is a perfect 5-0 in professional boxing with notable wins over Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. ‘The Problem Child’ beat both of these men by way of knockout.

Ben Askren talks about Anderson Silva vs Jake Paul

In an interview with talkSPORT, the former ONE and Bellator champion explained:

“I don’t really care that much. I don’t think I’m even going to buy the pay-per-view. I think it’s probably unlikely. I have no idea what to expect in this one, I guess we’ll see on Saturday.”

The collegiate wrestling great continued:

“I was really disappointed when Tyron lost. As far as it looks on me, it actually looks alright because Jake Paul is significantly better than we thought he would be. Part of me would like to see him [Jake Paul] get beat up. But if he does well it’s like, ‘Okay, I was clearly out of my league when I said yes.’ So, the expectation of me goes lower, which is fine.”

On the 29th of October, Jake Paul will face the biggest test of his career as he faces a highly experienced knockout striker in ‘The Spider‘ Anderson Silva.

Ben Askren is fed up with former champion Conor McGregor and his antics on social media.

McGregor is known for calling people out just minutes after they win a life changing bout. Just this past week McGregor called out Islam Makhachev after his dominant win over Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 for the lightweight championship. McGregor hopped on Twitter and almost immediately fired off multiple tweets.

McGregor tweeted a few more as well, claiming that this wasn’t Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s “fathers plan”. McGregor also said that his style matches up perfectly against Makhachev’s and he believes he possesses the skillset to win a bout against him. These tweets were later deleted.

Ben Askren didn’t hold back on his thoughts about McGregor’s constant calling out of fighters

This isn’t the first time the two have had words, as Ben Askren told McGregor he should retire just a few weeks ago.

“This guy doesn’t fight anymore but he wants to call everyone out, tell them how tough he is [and] tell them he’d beat them up,” Askren said in an interview with talkSport. “It’s like, ‘Dude, either fight or don’t. You’re not even in the USADA testing pool so you can’t even fight for six months, so let’s not act like you’re coming back anytime soon. No one wants to hear you talk about fighting because you don’t fight anymore. No one wants to hear me call anyone out because I don’t fight anymore,”

Askren claims he doesn’t ever talk bad about other fighters or call them out, because he isn’t fighting anymore, unless they offer him Jorge Masvidal.

“The only person I would say something about is Jorge [Masvidal] because I would fight Jorge if they were ever to offer me that. Besides that, whatever. I may have an opinion on their fight or an editorial on how the fight went but Conor comes in and says, I’ll beat him up no problem. Well, you wouldn’t do anything to him because you don’t actually fight.”

McGregor claims he will be making his return to the octagon “very soon”, but Dana White confirmed that he has not been in the USADA testing pool, putting him out until April at the earliest.

Conor McGregor

In the aftermath of UFC 280, Conor McGregor once again spoke up, boldly proclaiming that he has the exact skillset suited to defeating the new champ, Islam Makhachev. This prompted responses from numerous notable names in the industry, including Ben ‘Funky’ Askren.

Askren took to Twitter to state that McGregor was simply hoping to jump straight into a title shot, despite the fact that he has been inactive for an extensive period of time, is riding a two-fight losing streak, and is no longer ranked inside the top 10. McGregor would be quick to respond, calling Askren a ‘jackass.’

However, after Askren called for McGregor to retire, the ‘Notorious’ one ramped things up a notch, stating the following:

“@Benaskren Let’s train and we see what’s what then pal. You’ll know then what I’m saying. If you can’t see it already. I have the beating of this style. If you can’t see it, open your eyes and f*ck off.”

Tweet and Delete

However, before the argument would escalate any further, Conor McGregor (or his PR Team) deleted all of his Tweets. This still prompted a response by Askren, as he posted a screenshot of the deleted tweets, paired with the following caption:

“I think Conor’s handlers took his phone, deleted his tweets and put him to bed.”

McGregor has not addressed the beef with Askren since, but he has made several new posts regarding his latest endeavor, starring in the Hollywood blockbuster, Roadhouse.

“There is no one in Hollywood with the skills or the capability to do what I am doing in this movie “the roadhouse” Box office records. Awards.”

“Fighting is easier than making movies.”

Do you think Conor McGregor will ever return to the UFC?

Ben Askren has taken aim at Jorge Masvidal once again while being interview on Ariel Helwani’s ‘The MMA Hour’.

Askren’s run in the UFC wasn’t anything special and left fans with a bitter taste in their mouth. The UFC traded Demetrious Johnson, who was one of the best fighters to ever grace the organization, for an aging Askren. ‘Funky’ came into the UFC after he had hip surgery and was more or less a shell of his former self. He ended his UFC career with a 1-2 record and his one win came with a bit of controversy as well. He submitted Robbie Lawler with a bulldog choke, however Lawler swore he never went out and even popped back to his feet as soon as the referee called the fight.

Askren then set his sights on Masvidal, but Masvidal knocked him out with a record setting flying knee in three seconds. Masvidal was practicing the strike throughout his camp, as he knew Askren would go for a takedown and put his head down if he blitzed towards him. Masvidal was right and the knee connected perfectly.

The knockout over Askren made Masvidal a household name and one of the bigger stars in the game, as he had put together a few impressive knockout wins in a row.

Even after being brutally knocked out, Ben Askren never misses a chance to call out his old rival

“Journeyman bum Masvidal became Jorge Masvidal became one of the biggest stars in the game. You’re welcome Jorge.” Askren said.

Helwani then asked if he believes Masvidal appreciates him.

“If he doesn’t he’s an ungrateful son of a b*tch, how about that? He needs to send me a Christmas card for the next twenty years. If he doesn’t he’s ungrateful. He probably doesn’t want to give me credit for anything, so suck it Jorge.”
