Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury is taking a ‘no holds barred’ approach to his upcoming heavyweight boxing rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury and Usyk will clash in one of the biggest boxing fights of the year on December 21 in Riyadh. Usyk defeated Fury in their previous clash in May by split decision, retaining his heavyweight titles and winning the WBC belt.

After suffering his first professional loss, Fury is out for revenge against Usyk when they meet again in the ring. He’s also intending to leave it out of the judges’ hands and earn the rematch victory on his terms.

Fury is targeting his first boxing finish since knocking out Derek Chisora in Dec. 2022.

Tyson Fury embracing the challenger role for Oleksandr Usyk rematch

In a recent interview with Paul Dempsey, Fury shared his newly-found mindset for the Usyk rematch.

“I’m gonna go in there with destroy mode,” Fury declared. “Last time I went to box him, I was being cautious… Anybody can get caught as we have seen in a lot of these heavyweight fights. But this time I’m not going for a points decision. I’m gonna knock that motherfu**er out.” (h/t SportsKeeda)

Fury details the chip on his shoulder as he prepares to rematch Usyk.

“For the first time in years, I’m going in there as a challenger, not a champion,” Fury explained. “And I believe that I’m better as a challenger, always, because I’ve got that goal of achieving something and it’s giving me a fire underneath.”

Fury isn’t a stranger to rematches inside the boxing ring. After a split draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018, he earned back-to-back TKO/KO victories to decide the trilogy.

Before the loss to Usyk, Fury defeated former UFC heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou in 2023. Fury’s defeat earlier this year snapped a 35-fight unbeaten streak in his professional boxing career.

Fury is out for blood against Usyk. While Fury is known as a defensive boxing genius, don’t be surprised if he takes an aggressive approach to his attempt at vengeance.

Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou, the Cameroonian heavyweight who currently holds the UFC lineal world title, claims that MMA fighters hit harder than boxers. Ngannou has competed at the highest levels of both MMA and boxing but explains that it’s not quite as simple as saying one is over the other.

Francis Ngannou

Cameroon’s Francis Ngannou has had an incredible life journey. He started working in sand mines as a child to pay for his schooling and support his family. Later, he left home and crossed the continent of Africa only to spend months in a camp in Morocco. Later, he was arrested and was homeless in Paris, France.

Just a few years after that, he would become the UFC heavyweight world champion, earning the title by stunning knockout, and even defending this crown. Due to contract disputes with UFC brass, Ngannou vacated his title and walked away from the organization.

Against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, Francis Ngannou took on the best of the best in the world of heavyweight boxing. He also signed with the PFL and will fight the towering Brazilian knockout artist, and champion, Renan Ferreira on October 19 at the PFL Battle of the Giants.

Who Hits Harder? MMA or Boxing?

Speaking in an interview with Piers Morgan, Francis Ngannou explained which athletes hit harder, MMA fighters or boxers? He answered:

“I would say MMA [fighters]. It depends on the punch, it depends on how. But remember, MMA fight is like 4oz glove. Sometimes you get hit, not by the gloves, but by the knuckles. So, the sensation is different even if the punch isn’t very hard, the sensation is very different because it’s like bone to bone.”

The heavyweight fighter added that he will continue to compete in both boxing and MMA in the future. Ngannou said:

“You can be sure I’m not done here. It wasn’t my day. He was way better than me today. It sucks but it’s the game. We all know that.” [Ht Mirror]

November 15 sees Mike Tyson return to the ring to face Jake Paul in what will undoubtedly be one of the most talked about fights of the year.

Given the stature that both men bring to the table, getting the opportunity to share the ring with either of them is a huge opportunity for other fighters.

One man that wants a piece of that action is MMA legend Vitor Belfort.

After retiring from competing in the UFC back in 2018, Belfort has made the move over to boxing where he has had several bouts since. But despite being 47 years old, he believes that big name opponents still aren’t willing to fight him.

Vitor Belfort Says That He Wants Either Paul Or Tyson But It Probably Won’t Happen

The Brazilian legend has won both of his boxing contests since hanging up the MMA gloves, beating Evander Holyfield in an exhibition and fellow former UFC fighter Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

In a recent interview with Inside Fighting, he claimed that though he would be open to the idea of stepping in against Paul or Tyson, it’s not likely to happen.

It makes sense on his end but Belfort doesn’t believe that either man is willing to risk fighting him because of their own legacies.

“I would love to do it but both guys didn’t want to fight me for sure but I would love to fight the winner. I just wish they can have a great fight but they don’t have the courage to bring that fight [to me]. I think that would be a great fight to put together but I think none of them wanted to risk their – how they can call – career or their legacy.

“I’m in a stage of my life where for me to step up and fight someone, has to make sense for me, for the fans. I think the fans would love to see that but at the end of the day, Jake Paul fights who he wants to fight. He’s making the decision and I mean we’ll see what will be but I mean I can promise you, I think that fight is not going to happen.”

YouTuber and Boxer Jake Paul has found himself in hot water over a bribery defamation lawsuit going down in the courts. Mike Tyson isn’t the only opponent ‘The Problem Child’ needs to worry about.

Jake Paul is Being Sued

Jake Paul is being sued over defamation by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing over bribing a judge named Glenn Feldman to favor certain fighters in major boxing matches. Paul claimed that Hearn bribed Feldman to produce biased scorecards in fights involving Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor and Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk, where Serrano and Joshua both lost on points.

In September 2022, Serrano became the first athlete to sign with Paul’s promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, which aimed to elevate women’s boxing and ensure fairer treatment for female fighters. He was impressed by her performance and recognized her potential to draw attention to women’s boxing, which had been historically under-promoted.

Matchroom Boxing asked Paul to publicly retract his statement. When Paul refused, they filed a defamation lawsuit seeking over $100 million in damages. Glenn Feldman, the accused judge, joined the lawsuit as a co-plaintiff.

Most recently, a judge denied Paul’s attempt to have the case dismissed, meaning the lawsuit will proceed. The next legal step is a pre-trial conference on October 16, 2024, although Paul is not expected to attend.

Jake Paul will meet heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a blockbuster boxing match on November 15 which will stream on Netflix. Afterward, sometime in 2025, ‘The Problem Child’ will make his MMA debut in the PFL. Paul has made a name for himself in the boxing world by defeating former UFC fighters such as Aderson Silva, Mike Perry, Ben Askren, and Tyron Woodley, among others.
