Already embroiled in one controversy regarding a possibly insensitive comment he said to Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor referenced Rocky III as the one in the film series with “the dancing monkeys.”

McGregor made the reference during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s Guillermo Rodriguez. According to USA Today‘s A.J. Perez, Rodriguez asked McGregor if he could beat Rocky Balboa from Rocky III.

I’m trying to remember which one was Rocky III,” McGregor said. “Was that the one in the celebrity gym? I can’t remember if that’s the one with the dancing monkeys or not.”

McGregor and Mayweather are in the midst of a four-stop world tour to promote their Aug. 26 fight. During their event in Los Angeles on Tuesday, McGregor told Mayweather to “dance for me, boy,” per Yahoo Sports’ Ryan McKinnell.

Mayweather brushed the comment aside when asked about it by TMZ Sports.

Racism still exists but you know, I try to take something negative and turn it into something positive,” he said. “A lot of people say that Conor McGregor is racist but I don’t worry about that.”

McGregor addressed the story during Thursday’s event in Brooklyn, New York, denying that he’s racist and saying he’s “half-black from the belly button down,” per MMAFighting.com.

Mayweather and McGregor will conclude their tour Friday in London at SSE Arena.

Yesterday (July 12, 2017), Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor faced off in Toronto, Canada on the second stop of a four day world tour to promote their Aug. 26 boxing match.

McGregor once again spoke before Mayweather, and as expected, he didn’t hold back. In fact, the “Notorious” one even called out Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza. The Irishman believes Showtime shut his microphone off in Los Angeles earlier this week, and he took his frustrations out on Espinoza, calling him a ‘weasel’ and a ‘b*tch’.

Speaking to MMAFighting.com after the event, Espinoza admitted that he was a bit surprised by McGregor’s comments:

“I’m not sure whether it’s part of the show,” Espinoza said. “I’m not sure how much is a put on. It seemed more than that. It certainly wasn’t a wink and a nod. And it wasn’t backstage saying, ‘Hey, I’m doing it for the good of the show.’ The reality is you see what some athletes — whether combat sports or otherwise — the need to invent enemies and invent opponents to motivate. He’s obviously got that in Floyd. If this is part of his process of imagining the world against him and motivating himself, then that’s his his process.

“I’m a big boy. It’s certainly not somebody that has come after me as a network. It did take me a little bit by surprise, but it’s part of the entertainment value of the McGregor business.”

Espinoza then said Showtime wouldn’t attempt to discuss the issue with McGregor or his team, but he did say that he still has multiple opportunities to respond if need be:

“I don’t think so,” Espinoza said. “He’s a grown adult, I’m a grown adult. If that’s the way he wants to conduct himself, we as the network or me personally are not gonna change it. It’s one of the things that you appreciate Floyd for. Floyd certainly has his flaws like we all do, but there’s always been a sense of professionalism in everything he’s done. That isn’t always the case with some of his opponents.”

“I’d like to sleep on it, but it took me by surprise,” he said. “At the end of the day, I’m a big boy and I still got two more opportunities to respond if I need to.”

What do you make of the situation?

Undefeated boxer Andre Ward took issue with Conor McGregor referring to Floyd Mayweather as “boy” when asked about it Wednesday.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Ward said, “I don’t like that ‘boy’ word. I don’t like that.”

McGregor made headlines Tuesday and Wednesday after saying, “Dance for me, boy,” to Mayweather during press conferences in Los Angeles and Toronto.

Mayweather also commented on the “boy” controversy Wednesday, but he didn’t seem to have a problem with it, per TMZ Sports:

“We all know there’s only two types of boys—a white boy and a cowboy—and I’m neither. … Racism still exists but you know, I try to take something negative and turn it into something positive. A lot of people say that Conor McGregor is racist but I’m not worried about that.”

Ward pointed out that one of the issues with McGregor calling Mayweather “boy” is that he may get his comeuppance in the ring on Aug. 26.

Mayweather and McGregor are in the midst of a four-city press tour meant to build anticipation for their upcoming superfight.

The bout will pit the 49-0 Mayweather against a UFC lightweight champion who has never competed in a professional boxing match.

While that seemingly gives Mayweather a significant advantage, the fact that he is 40 years old and hasn’t fought since 2015 could serve as an equalizer.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. responded to the controversy surrounding Conor McGregor calling him “boy” twice during separate media appearances.

“We all know there’s only 2 types of boys—a white boy and a cowboy—and I’m neither,” Mayweather told TMZ Sports.

“Racism still exists but you know, I try to take something negative and turn it into something positive,” he added. “A lot of people say that Conor McGregor is racist but I’m not worried about that.”

At separate press conferences hyping up the fight between Mayweather and McGregor on Aug. 26, McGregor told Mayweather to Dance for me, boy.” That quickly elicited questions on social media, including this tweet from Chris Broussard of FS1:

Ryan McKinnell of Yahoo Sports also reacted to McGregor’s choice of words:

“It is what it is. He’s entitled to feel how he wants to feel,” Mayweather said in his response to McGregor’s comments. “I just want to stay in my zone and stay focused.”

McGregor has been accused of insensitive comments in the past. In March 2015, he took a questionable shot at fighter Jose Aldo.

“What I really want to do is turn his favela into a Reebok sweatshop,” McGregor said, per Dave Doyle of Yahoo Sports. “They work well over there.”

And in 2016 he called Nate Diaz a “cholo gangster from the hood,” according to Des Bieler of the Washington Post.

Yesterday (July 11, 2017), Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor met face-to-face for the first time in Los Angeles to promote their upcoming Aug. 26 boxing match.

To no surprise, the trash talk was evident, but the back-and-forth banter between the two stars that fans had been hoping for was lacking, and that was due mainly in part to McGregor’s microphone being shut off after he tried to respond to Mayweather.

Showtime, who will promote the event on pay-per-view, released a statement (Via MMAFighting.com) soon after the event claiming that the network did McGregor’s microphone was not shut off:

“At no point did Showtime or event productions cut any microphones intentionally during Tuesday’s kickoff event in Los Angeles. The point of this world tour is to let these superstars interact with the fans and with each other. Cutting their mics would go against our goal of delivering these fighters to the masses and letting their charismatic and entertaining personalities take center stage.”

Today (July 12, 2017), Mayweather and McGregor once again met, this time in Toronto, Canada. And unlike yesterday, McGregor had no problem speaking when he pleased, and he didn’t hold back with his mic time.

In fact, he walked right up to Stepehen Espinoza and unleashed on the Showtime executive:

“While we’re at it, f*ck Showtime too,” McGregor said. “You little weasel. Look at you you little f*cking weasel, I can see it in your eyes, you’re a f*cking bitch. Cut my mic off? Cut the champ’s mic off? Hell no. You f*cking weasel.”

The “Notorious” one continued on, claiming that Showtime was trying to catch him ‘off guard’:

“They’re trying to set me up at every turn out here,” McGregor said. “They’re trying to catch me off guard. … There is nothing they can do to faze me. Twenty-eight years of age, I’m getting fight checks and promoter checks. When Floyd was 28, he was on Oscar De La Hoya’s undercard.”

The madness that is the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. World Tour continued on today (Tues. July 12, 2017).

Yesterday the action got started at the Staples Center from Los Angeles, California, where McGregor fired shots at “Money’s” financial woes and wardrobe. Mayweather fired back by flaunting his un-cashed $100 million check and boasting about his undefeated 49-0 record inside the squared circle.

McGregor was unable to respond to any of Mayweather’s verbal shots, however, as his mic was mysteriously shut off during “Money’s” time on stage. Today was a much different story.

The UFC lightweight champ opened things up by firing shots at both Mayweather and Showtime Sports executive Stephen Espinoza. McGregor called Espinoza a ‘weasel’ and a ‘b*tch’ after claiming that he shut his mic off during the first presser in attempt to silence the brash Irishman’s gift of gab. He then shifted his attention to Mayweather, who he proceeded to label ‘boxing’s biggest b*tch’:

“I just want to speak to all the boxing pu**ies, all the supposed experts,” McGregor said. “You’re f*cking crazy if you think this man stands a chance. His head is too small! One shot is all it takes me, check the facts, I bounce heads off the canvas and dribble that sh*t! He tip-tap-toes to a decision. He has never even fought a day in his life. He’s a runner. He’s boxing’s biggest b*tch!”

Mayweather and McGregor will go one-on-one in the center of the boxing ring live on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada next month (Sat. August 26, 2017).
