Andre Ward could seemingly end his retirement to box Jake Paul.

Floyd Mayweather noted during a press event, announcing his next exhibition fight, that he recently spoke to Ward, who noted he’d be interested in fighting the younger Paul brother.

The interest apparently sparked after Ward saw Mayweather box older brother Logan Paul on pay-per-view (PPV) last year.

“I spoke to Andre Ward, if you guys saw us talking on stage at the International Boxing Hall of Fame,” Mayweather said, via Global Circulate. “Andre Ward was talking to me and he said he wanted to do, or he didn’t mind doing an exhibition against Jake Paul.”

Ward is one of the greatest talents boxing has ever seen, retiring in 2017 after racking up an undefeated record of 32-0. He held titles in both the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.

At 38-years-old, Ward would undoubtedly be the toughest hurdle of Paul’s young boxing career. Jake Paul made his professional boxing debut against a fellow YouTube star back in 2020 and followed that up with a fight against ex-NBA star Nate Robinson later that year, winning both via knockout.

Paul then began feuding with mixed martial arts (MMA) stars Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. He’d knock out both of them, fighting Woodley twice; initially defeating him via decision in their first contest before scoring the finish in their rematch.

He’s quickly become one of the hottest names in boxing, with several notable names calling him out in hopes of scoring a payday. At an unblemished 5-0, Paul would be pushed unlike anything he’s ever seen before in a potential fight with Ward.

Andre Ward: Deontay Wilder Wont Take Trilogy Fight Against Tyson Fury

Former super middleweight king and light heavyweight titlist Andre Ward believes Deontay Wilder will avoid taking a third fight with Tyson Fury. Former super middleweight king and light heavyweight titlist Andre Ward believes Deontay Wilder will avoid taking a third fight with Tyson Fury. The 36-year-old boxing great turned pundit expressed his belief after seeing power puncher Wilder suffer a dominating defeat at the hands of ‘The Gypsy King’. Speaking to ESPN post-fight the 168lb legend explained why Wilder wont and shouldn’t invoke his rematch clause, he said.

“These types
of things can happen to anybody, but they happen often times to guys who
exclusively depend on one thing and we know what that is for Deontay Wilder and
that’s power. ‘He’s building his whole reputation, his whole foundation, on
fear. When you have that kind of reputation and when you have all these
knockouts, sometimes your team can become enamoured with you. ‘Instead of
challenging you and saying, ‘Son, you may fire me, but I’m going to point out
every flaw you have because one day we’re going to face a guy who’s not going
to follow the script’.

“Tonight,
Tyson Fury did not follow the script. And often times for a puncher the fall is
abrupt, and we saw that tonight. ‘I don’t believe that Deontay Wilder is going
to exercise that rematch clause in the next 30 days. His pride will tell him
to, but I don’t think he will and I don’t think he should.’ Asked why, he
continued: ‘He’s shattered psychologically. Now that doesn’t mean he won’t ever
win a boxing match ever again. But I know the psychology of a guy with that
kind of reputation.

“When it’s taken from you. He could have justified getting hit with a big shot and say he was caught cold, but you got beat up, you got out-classed and you got stopped on your feet. ‘Your team, the ones who are your biggest cheerleaders, the ones who are calling out all the good in you, thought enough of you to throw in the towel. ‘And not just any team member, but one who had a career in the sport of boxing, has been knocked out before. He knew what Wilder was going through and he saved him from getting knocked out cold.” (Transcribed by The Metro)

Andre Ward Doesn’t Like Conor McGregor Calling Floyd Mayweather ‘Boy’

Undefeated boxer Andre Ward took issue with Conor McGregor referring to Floyd Mayweather as “boy” when asked about it Wednesday.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Ward said, “I don’t like that ‘boy’ word. I don’t like that.”

McGregor made headlines Tuesday and Wednesday after saying, “Dance for me, boy,” to Mayweather during press conferences in Los Angeles and Toronto.

Mayweather also commented on the “boy” controversy Wednesday, but he didn’t seem to have a problem with it, per TMZ Sports:

“We all know there’s only two types of boys—a white boy and a cowboy—and I’m neither. … Racism still exists but you know, I try to take something negative and turn it into something positive. A lot of people say that Conor McGregor is racist but I’m not worried about that.”

Ward pointed out that one of the issues with McGregor calling Mayweather “boy” is that he may get his comeuppance in the ring on Aug. 26.

Mayweather and McGregor are in the midst of a four-city press tour meant to build anticipation for their upcoming superfight.

The bout will pit the 49-0 Mayweather against a UFC lightweight champion who has never competed in a professional boxing match.

While that seemingly gives Mayweather a significant advantage, the fact that he is 40 years old and hasn’t fought since 2015 could serve as an equalizer.
