Former longtime UFC welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre is gearing up for his return to the Octagon, which is expected to take place later this year in the form of a middleweight title bout against 185-pound champion Michael Bisping.

Despite his upcoming fight, St. Pierre recently discussed the potential boxing match between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, which St. Pierre ‘doesn’t think’ McGregor will win:

“I think it will happen,” St-Pierre told RT Sports. “I know Floyd will never fight Conor in a mixed martial arts fight, but Conor could fight Floyd in a boxing match. I don’t think he’s going to win, I don’t think he’s going to win at all, but I think he wants to do it and he’s going to make a lot of money out of it.”

“Rush” isn’t the only mixed martial artist that has given the “Notorious” one a slim chance against “Money”, but unlike some other fighters, St. Pierre doesn’t think a loss against Mayweather will have a supremely negative affect on McGregor:

“If he loses, and I’m pretty sure he’s going to lose if it happens, the odds are not in his favor,” St-Pierre explained. “But if he manages to survive, it could be like a win for him. Because after he’s going to start talking, ‘Hey, I’ve stepped into your game, why don’t you step into mine?’ So it depends not only on the result, but how it’s done. It all depends on how things play out.”

Do you agree with St. Pierre’s comments?

At one point, UFC President Dana White was convinced that the often discussed super fight between Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor would never happen, but he now feels as if he has to make it happen.

“This kid steps up. He’ll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. A lot of people say it, very few really mean it. Conor McGregor, I call him the unicorn. I’ve never dealt with a kid like this,” White explained when speaking to “The Herd” on Wednesday.

“So for him to have this kind of opportunity, to make this kind of money, this type of a fight that people are so interested in worldwide, I almost feel like I have to make it.”

Although nothing is official as of now, it has seemed as of late that the bout is closer to becoming a reality than it ever was before. Both Mayweather and McGregor have expressed vast interest in it, and McGregor’s longtime head coach John Kavanagh even said that him and the “Notorious” one have begun training for “Money”.

As far as White is concerned, it’s simply a fight people ‘want to see’ and it appears as if the UFC boss feels as if he owes something to his biggest star:

“It’s a fight that people do want to see. It’s intriguing and obviously it’s a fight that Conor wants because financially it’s going to be massive for him,” White said. “McGregor, he’s a guy that I have a lot of respect for.

“This guy has stepped up at times when people were at his level would never step up. I’ve said this a million times and I’ll say it again — I’m the guy standing in the living room, I’m the guy on the phone when these guys are looking down the barrel of a new opponent a week before the fight and Conor McGregor doesn’t flinch.”

The fight would certainly be amongst the most lucrative in the history of combat sports and it may come to fruition for that reason alone.

Are you sick of all the talk and all of the rumors, or are you still interested in seeing Mayweather and McGregor clash?

With a potential boxing super fight between Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor inching closer and closer towards a reality, some have questioned whether a bout between a boxing legend like Mayweather and a man who has never competed in a professional boxing match like McGregor would even be sanctioned.

According to Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) Chief Bob Bennet, however, the fight would be an ‘approvable’ bout:

“It’s definitely an approvable fight,” he told Boxing News. “This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, it is a bit of an anomaly, it’s unusual because both fighters are phenomenal fighters.

“But back in August of 1957 Floyd Patterson fought Pede Rademacher, Rademacher was making his pro debut, and they fought for the world heavyweight title. Patterson won by KO in the sixth round. So even though this would be Conor’s pro debut as a boxer, there is some precedence, but this would be the first time we see two fighters at this level, one from the MMA world and one from boxing, having a fight.”

Continuing on, Bennet cited McGregor’s training history and the fact that he is primarily a stand-up fighter as reasons why the fight would be sanctioned:

“He’s proven that he can fight as a stand-up fighter. I’ve seen some tape of him boxing, I’m sure I’ll get an updated version of his skill-set as a fighter. I certainly think he’s worthy of being approved to fight Floyd Mayweather. His UFC background is critical in approving this fight.”

“One of the critical things you have to take into account; Conor’s a phenomenal athlete,” he continued.

“When you go back, he took up kickboxing at the age of 12. As a youth he became an All-Ireland boxing champion. He goes to the UFC, of course he had several [MMA] fights before that, and while he’s with the UFC he’s 21-3 with 17 of those wins coming via knockout or TKO.

“He’s a stand-up fighter, he’s a southpaw, he hits like a tonne of bricks, he’s got a great jaw, he’s 5’ 9’’ and he’s got a reach of 74 inches. If you take a look at his wins in the UFC, they’re predominantly from striking [punching] and if you take a look at the fact he was able to move from 145[lbs] to 155 to 170, he’s displayed some awesome unarmed combat skills.”

Do you believe the potential fight should be approved by one of the world’s most prominent athletic commission?

Dillon Danis: McGregor Knocks Out Mayweather ‘Before The Fifth’

Many have counted Conor McGregor out of a potential boxing fight with former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather given the fact the UFC lightweight champion has never competed in a professional boxing match, but his teammate Dillon Danis, who recently signed with Bellator MMA, isn’t.

“I just want to say, everyone is running [McGregor] down, but I think that he knocks [Mayweather] out,” Danis said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

“That’s a hard one, I’ll say before the fifth,” Danis said. “I think before the fifth. I think he knocks him out.”

Danis has made some waves of his own recently and many have begun to compare him to McGregor in terms of the outspoken nature of both men. Danis, an elite-level grappler, however, has made it clear that he’s on his ‘own path’:

“I’m on my own path and I do it my own way,” Danis said. “At the end of the day, people are just looking to hate on me for anything, so that’s just how it is. Everybody kind of wants to put me down. They’re trying to find something to use against me. … I don’t really give a s**t about who’s hating on me, or Conor this, Conor that. At the end of the day they just hate me and Conor.”

What do you make of Danis’ opinion and do you expect him to see success in mixed martial arts (MMA)?

Quote: It’s A Disgrace To Boxing If McGregor Lasts One Round Against Mayweather

If Conor McGregor lasts one round against Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match, it’s a disgrace to the sport.

That’s what former UFC light heavyweight and middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen had to say in a recent interview with FightHubTV. Sonnen is set to take on Wanderlei Silva in the main event of Bellator 180 in the promotion’s return to pay-per-view (PPV) in New York City.

During a press conference earlier this week to promote the event, ‘The Bad Guy’ told FightHubTV that the public’s current overall consensus of the sport of boxing is that it’s a ‘phony sport.’ Sonnen also said that if McGregor is able to last more than 30 seconds with ‘Money’, it discredits the sport even more (quotes via MMA Mania):

“The public dismisses boxing as a fringe, fake, and phony sport, and the public may just be right!” Sonnen said. “The fact that you can take a guy that has never lost in professional boxing and put him in there with a guy who has never done professional boxing and have a lot of people including people in the industry of boxing think that the guy who has never done it is going to beat your undefeated greatest of all time is an embarrassment for the sport.”

“If Conor McGregor lasts 30 seconds with Floyd Mayweather it discredits boxing, and I think he will. If Conor McGregor makes it out of one round with Floyd Mayweather, the entire sport of boxing is a fake, phony myth. And that’s the kind of pressure they’re under.”

Mayweather’s last appearance inside the squared circle saw him take home a unanimous decision win over Andre Berto in September of 2015, for what was announced at the time as his retirement fight. ‘Money’ holds an undefeated record of 49-0 and has stated that he is now out of retirement to face Conor McGregor.

McGregor comes off of a historical feat of his own, when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round of the UFC’s first event in Madison Square Garden to become the promotion’s first dual-weight champion of all time. ‘Mystic Mac’ said in an interview event earlier this year that he believes the next time he steps in to compete in a combat sports arena, it will be in the sport of boxing.

The two continue to exchange barbs with one another through social media, but no official deal for a bout has been signed as of this writing.

Boxing and mixed martial arts have always gone hand in hand, but it seems as if the two forms of combat sports are being discussed together now more than ever.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has been campaigning for a fight with Floyd Mayweather, while Nate Diaz recently applied for a boxing license in Nevada and expressed his interest in stepping into the squared circle as well.

The latest discussion between the two sports actually involved Diaz’s older brother Nick, as the former Strikeforce champion was recently called out by former boxing light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal:

“The UFC fighters, they always say that they can fight, that they can box, but I don’t see that,” Pascal told TMZ. “Nick Diaz talks a lot of trash and he never had someone who can talk back to him like I can do.”

Diaz is indeed one of mixed martial arts’ most polarizing figures, but he hasn’t competed since his Jan. 2015 bout with Anderson Silva. After testing positive for Marijuana metabolites, Diaz was suspended after the bout, although that suspension ended last August.

“The Stockton Bad Boy” has expressed interest in returning to the Octagon, but he hasn’t signed on to compete again just yet. If he were to test his hand at boxing, however, Pascal feels as if he ‘can whoop his a**’:

“With boxing rules. I don’t claim I can go on the floor,” Pascal continues. “On the floor with a man, that’s not my thing.”

“I’m pretty sure that I can whoop his ass because I’m a fighter, not a UFC wrestler. Boxing is an art. I can tell Diaz, ‘Why don’t you come out of your redneck country and fight me in a real city like Montreal, cause that s— can be sold out.”

What do you make of Pascal’s comments?
