Ryan Garcia hit with one year suspension for failed drug test win against Devin Haney now no contest

According to reports tonight, former WBC interim lightweight champion, Ryan Garcia has received a one-year suspension after reacting a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission, after failing a drug-test in relation to his now-official ‘No Contest’ bout with Devin Haney earlier this year at the Barclays Center.

As per an initial report from boxing correspondent, Dan Rafael, professional boxing star, Garcia reached a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission, and will serve a one-year suspension from the sport, as well as seeing his decision win over former world champion, Haney overturned to an official No Contest’.

Reacting to the news of his suspension and the ruling of his victory over Haney to a now-official ‘No Contest’, the hugely outspoken Garcia claimed he would pursue a change change to mixed martial arts and compete in the UFC.

“I’m headed to the UFC,” Ryan Garcia posted on his official X account.

Protesting his innocence despite reports revealing he and his legal team had struck a settlement with the state athletic commission, Garcia claimed the sport of boxing had turned it’s back on him.

“I really hope boxing good without me,” Ryan Garcia posted.”I fought everyone and was willing to. They have turned there back on me. I’m innocent. I stand by that I don’t care what everyone says. Gun yo (sic) my head I say I didn’t take PEDs.”

UFC CEO Dana White suggests he is part of Saudi Arabia's proposed $5 billion boxing takeover

Dana White has been itching to get into the business of boxing for years. He may have just found his way in.

Over the last two decades, White turned the Ultimate Fighting Championship from glorified cockfighting into a global juggernaut valued at more than $11 billion. During that time, Dana White and Co. have built themselves a monopoly, buying up promotions and signing the biggest names in the world to compete inside their Octagon.

For years, the UFC CEO has looked for an opportunity to do something similar in the world of boxing.

After dipping his toe into a handful of boxing endeavors, most notably the cross-promotional clash between Irish megastar Conor McGregor and legendary pugilist Floyd Mayweather, White may be ready to dive in head-first

Per a report from Reuters, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is currently in talks with multiple boxing promoters, including Matchroom Boxing, Golden Boy Promotions, and Queensbury Promotions, to combine their assets into one organization valued at a whopping $5 billion. Turki al-Sheikh, chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, is said to be overseeing the final discussions.

Dana White teases potential partnership with Turki al-Sheikh

Speaking with Sports Business Journal, White suggested that he could be involved in the potential merger, though he stopped short of coming right out and saying it.

“Hmm. It’s a possibility,” White told SBJ when asked about partnering with Turki Alalshikh, with whom he is working on a first UFC show in Riyadh. “It’s definitely a possibility… I think he’s the only one who can do it. This guy is making fights no one else can make.”

On Saturday, June 22, White will take the UFC to Saudi Arabia for the first time as the promotion presents a stacked fight night card inside Kingdom Arena. In the main event of the evening, former middleweight world champion Robert Whittaker will square off with short-notice replacement opponent Ikram Aliskerov after Whittaker’s originally scheduled opponent, Khamzat Chimaev, was forced to bow out after becoming “violently ill” during his training camp.

Chael Sonnen claims loss to Anderson Silva in boxing fight will make his career a miserable failure

Chael Sonnen says his career will be a failure to him should he lose to Anderson Silva on Saturday night in Brazil.

Sonnen is set to end his retirement to make his boxing debut in São Paulo, Brazil. Although Sonnen isn’t known for his striking, he says he’s taking this fight seriously as this is his final chance to defeat Silva.

Silva defeated Sonnen twice in MMA so this is the ‘Bad Guy’s’ final shot at defeating him. If Sonnen loses, he says his career will be a failure.

“There is nothing about this where I go, ‘Boxing is not quite my style,’” Sonnen said on his ESPN show “Good Guy/Bad Guy” with Daniel Cormier. “I’m going out there to beat this man, to fix my life, or I am going to go the rest of my days looking at my career as a miserable fail.”

If Chael Sonnen does defeat Anderson Silva it would be a massive upset and would allow the American to get the last laugh on the Brazilian.

Chael Sonnen putting respect to Anderson Silva aside

Although Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva were massive rivals in the UFC, the two have gotten friendly since both stepped away from MMA.

However, heading into their boxing fight, Sonnen says he’s putting that respect behind him.

“To be the one to get to sign off and close out his career, there is a certain appreciation,” Sonnen said. “But, before I go too nice guy, on you, the rules, starting with No. 1, is we damage each other. I know people like to be friendly and like to say we made up. They love to use the word ‘respect.’

“I will adhere to it, too because it seems like the gentlemanly thing to do, but I’m going to go damage him, which is what I’ve agreed to do. I’m going to put my body in there because he asked. He could have gotten any opponent he wanted. He apparently still wants to do damage to me. So, to act like everything is behind us would just be insincere.”

Anderson Silva set to fight Chael Sonnen in boxing match trilogy in Brazil this July

Sonnen last fought in 2019 when he suffered a TKO loss to Lyoto Machida.

Tyson Fury escorted from pub before hitting head on pavement in shocking video footage

Just weeks on from his stunning decision defeat to undisputed heavyweight boxing champion, Oleksandr Usyk, footage has emerged of former WBC heavyweight titleholder, Tyson Fury being escorted from a bar in his native Morecambe Bay by bouncers, before appearing to fall and hit his head on the sidewalk outside the venue.

Fury, a former two-time WBC heavyweight champion, headlined a massive pay-per-view card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last month against Ukraine striker, Usyk – dropping his first professional loss in the pair’s title unification clash in the Middle East.

Oleksandr Usyk set to fight Tyson Fury in rematch title clash on December 21.

Finding himself on the receiving end of a rather comfortable split decision loss to Usyk, Fury was almost finished in the ninth round – afforded a standing count, however, left fans and pundits with a sour taste in their mouths after claiming Usyk was only awarded the victory due to his native Ukraine’s ongoing war with invading Russia.

And inking a deal to fight Usyk in an immediate title rematch in December of this year, according to Royal Saudi Court adviser, Turki Alalshikh, Fury’s preparations for his pivotal title rematch could not have gone off to a worse start.

Taking in the festivities at the Nowhere bar in his native Morecambe, Fury, 35, was filmed being escorted from the venue by a team of security personnel and bouncers, before further footage showed the giant heavyweight crawl from the venue’s entrance.

With members of ex-champion, Fury’s posse and entourage arguing outside the pub, the former heavyweight champion continues to stumble in a bid to get back to his feet, before appearing to smack his head on the pavement.

Former eight-division boxing world champion, Manny Pacquiao will return to the boxing ring when he faces RIZIN featherweight champion Chihiro Suzuki.

During the RIZIN 47 broadcast last night, it was announced that the 45-year-old Pacquiao will fight on Super RIZIN 3 on July 28. He will face 25-year-old Suzuki who currently holds the 145lb RIZIN title and holds wins over the likes of Patricio Pitbull.

Manny Pacquaio had retired from competing following his decision loss to Yordenis Ugas in August of 2021.

“It is difficult for me to accept that my time as a boxer is over,” Manny Pacquiao said in his retirement announcement video in September 2021. “Goodbye, boxing…Thank you for changing my life when my family was desperate. You gave us hope. You gave me the chance to fight our way out of poverty. Because of you, I was able to inspire people all over the world. Because of you, I have been given the courage to change more lives.’’

Manny Pacquiao

Ever since his retirement, there has been talks of ‘Pac-man’ making a ring return, being linked to fights with the likes of Conor Benn. It is clear that Pacquiao deeply missed boxing and what he got from the sport.

He has also earned enough money to never have to work again in his life and also held a job as a senator in his native Philippines. Fighting for many is a life style and stepping away from it becomes a very difficult process which leaves some searching for an identity outside of fighting.

While we see many fighters return way past his best, even at his age Pacquiao should still defeat Suzuki. He fought against the very best into his early 40s, becoming the oldest every welterweight champion after defeating Keith Thurman back in 2019, a title he held up until his clash with Ugas.
