Brendan Schaub Responds to Slam from Dricus Du Plessis

Ex-UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub offered a response to Dricus Du Plessis.

‘Stillknocks’ was successful in his first defense of the middleweight title at UFC 305, scoring a fourth-round submission victory over two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya. It was a rather shocking turn of events considering insiders far and wide heavily favored Adesanya to take back the middleweight strap and kickstart a historic third title reign.

That includes fighter-turned-comedian Brendan Schaub who boldly predicted that Adesanya was going to “beat the sh*t” out of Du Plessis.

Not long after the belt was wrapped around his waist, Du Plessis hopped on social media to throw some shade at Schaub’s prediction and take a dig at the former fighter’s legacy, or lack thereof.

“@BrendanSchaub great prediction.. You has been JK haha you’ve never been,” Du Plessis wrote.”

Not long after ‘DDP’ slammed him, Schaub delivered a much classier response compared to that of the South African sensation.

“Fair play,” Schaub replied. “I’d be mad too. DDP is a monster.”

The Contenders are already lining up for dricus du Plessis

With the win over Adesanya, Dricus Du Plessis remains undefeated inside the Octagon, going 8-0 with a 75% finish rate. Next, ‘DDP’ is expected to rematch the man he took the title from in January, Sean Strickland.

Strickland

Tarzan’ established himself as the next man in line with a decisive victory over Paulo Costa in June. Meanwhile, Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev will meet at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi to secure their own spot in line and ensure that ‘Stillknocks’ stays plenty busy at 185.

An ex-UFC heavyweight contender thinks he has a good idea of how the final chapter of Israel Adesanya’s career will play out.

Dricus Du Plessis believes that after everything that Adesanya has accomplished in his career, he no longer has the same hunger to compete at the highest level. “The Last Stylebender” has a great run in the UFC’s middleweight division, and even if he was to walk away today, he’d be regarded as one of the best to ever do it in his weight class.

However, having recaptured the 185-pound title once before, the big question is whether the time that he has spent away will produce a rejuvenated Adesanya at UFC 305 this weekend.

He was incredibly active before taking a year off, and this meant that he was battling through injuries and potentially lost some focus heading into UFC 293 last September,

His loss to Sean Strickland was a shocking upset but it could have potentially led to what would be a third title reign for Adesanya.

Brendan Schaub Predicts Israel Adesanya Is Far From Done In MMA Following UFC 305

During his preview of all the action that is set to take place at UFC 305 this Saturday (Sunday local time) in Perth, Brendan Schaub gave his prediction for Adesanya’s path to retirement.

Unlike Du Plessis, he doesn’t think that “The Last Stylebender” is ready to walk away right now without becoming a UFC champion once again.

Schaub believes that Adesanya still has some career-defining fights left in him and went bold on the idea that when all is said and done, he will overtake the great Anderson Silva as being the best fighter to ever grace the middleweight division.

“This is how Izzy’s career is gonna go. He’s gonna beat Dricus, he’s gonna outclass him on Saturday. He’s gonna beat the s*** out of him, he’s gonna outclass this dude. It’s gonna be the old vintage Izzy. By old I mean, a year ago. He’s gonna beat the s*** out of him because he’s had rest, he’s no longer the hunted, he’s the hunter.

“He’s gonna beat Dricus, then he’s gonna fight Sean Strickland and he’s gonna be 100 percent focused. He’s gonna beat Sean Strickland. Then, he’s gonna take a break and then you’re gonna get Alex (Pereira) vs. Izzy at 205 (pounds); it’s his last fight ever and his wins over Dricus and Sean Strickland, I think there’s an argument now, makes him the greatest middleweight of all time. That’s how his story ends.”

Comedy Scandal: Joe Rogan Allegedly Stealing Material from Brendan Schaub

In an ironic twist, Joe Rogan has been accused of stealing jokes nearly two decades after single-handedly destroying Carlos Mencia’s career for doing the same thing.

Rogan recently returned to the stage for the Netflix comedy special ‘Burn The Boats’ which was met with mixed reviews, generating a 54% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Less than two weeks removed from its release date, Rogan is being accused of recycling jokes and stealing material from other comics.

Joe Rogan

While the former is nothing new as comedians often reuse and modify old material, the latter is a serious accusation in the stand-up comic community.

YouTube channel The Elephant Grave posted an extensive 36-minute breakdown of Rogan’s latest Netflix offering loaded with criticism, the biggest being that Rogan stole material from fellow comic and JRE podcast regular Brendan Schaub.

Rogan famously helped guide Schaub’s early days in the stand-up game after the former UFC heavyweight fighter laid down his gloves in 2015. Given their relationship, it’s all too likely that Rogan has seen some of Schaub’s stand-up work and may have found himself inspired by some of it.

Of course, the type of jokes told by Rogan and Schaub in the above clip are hardly original, so make of that what you will.

Brendan Schaub

Thus far, neither Joe Rogan nor Brendan Schaub have commented on the accusation.

Critics Shred Joe Rogan’s ‘Burn The Boats’ Special

Joe Rogan’s return to Netflix was largely slammed by critics, earning a big fat 0% on RT and and middling 4.9 out of 10 on IMDB.

“Unapologetically, Joe Rogan stepped onto a stage to vent about what he’s dreamed about saying to a large live audience since COVID became a mainstay in the current state,” Matthew Creith of The Wrap wrote. “The San Antonio audience ate up everything the comic howled about for over 60 minutes, though Netflix audiences might feel different. If you know Rogan, you know exactly what you’re getting with this special … even if the special’s title might need to be clarified for those not familiar with the idiom it offers.”

Daniel D’Addario of Variety appeared to agree with Creith’s assessment, accusing Rogan of offering up diatribes “decades too late” and attempting to garner attention with a controversial subject matter rather than providing any sort of unique take.

“Much of Rogan’s comedy, here, was simplistic to the point of sketched out,” D’Addario said. “Rogan spoke mockingly of at least some trans people as ‘crazy people,’ saying that, while some transness is legitimate, untold others were like the villain of The Silence of the Lambs; this is not only prejudiced, this is amateur stuff. A later bit about feeling intimidated around gay men because of Rogan’s understanding of men’s primal nature felt similar: Outdated. Tired. It ultimately came as a relief, even for the viewer who disagreed, when COVID came up in Rogan’s litany, if only because it was a topic that hadn’t already been chewed up by the culture like so many pieces of offal on Fear Factor.”

Joe Rogan

Jacques Berlinerblau of MSNBC added that Rogan’s latest special was light on comedy and heavy on complaints.

“I’m going to preface this with — I love stand-up comedy and I don’t mind Joe Rogan. I enjoy his podcast. BUT — Someone close to Joe — please be honest and tell him this last special wasn’t great. This was a bizarre 21st-century Sam Kinison impression.”

Ex-UFC fighter Brendan Schaub snaps back at Ronda Rousey's 'Mind Games' accusation: 'It was awful'

Brendan Schaub snapped back at Ronda Rousey after an excerpt from her latest book claimed that the ex-heavyweight standout played “f*cked-up mind games” during their relationship.

Before Rousey married another former UFC heavyweight fighter, Travis Browne, ‘Rowdy’ dated Schaub before the two inevitably parted ways. Interestingly, Browne and Schaub would go on to fight one another inside the Octagon in December 2014.

Brendan Schaub vs. Browne

Rousey, who recently released a new book titled Our Fight: A Memoir admitted to reveling in Browne’s decisive first-round finish of Schaub.

“When Travis knocked him out at the end of the first round, I didn’t think it could get any more gratifying,” Rousey wrote.

Rousey also accused Schaub of being insecure and playing mind games during their time together.

Brendan Schaub and Ronda Rousey

Responding to the accusations on a recent episode of his The Fighter and The Kid podcast with Bryan Callen, Schaub denied Rousey’s claim, suggesting that if any mind games were being played, it was coming from her camp.

“But to bring it up 14 years later? I mean she has kids and it obviously worked out and like it’s just life, we weren’t a match so like when she says mind games, no it’s not mind games. The mind games came from, in all honesty, her camp like that was the trouble she had and that’s a whole other issue that she can address.

“I have nothing to do with that, I didn’t train at her camp, I don’t know the coach, I have nothing to do with that. I guess when she means mind games, that would mean it wasn’t a match so yeah and you were around during that time and you knew this. I’d be like ‘Dude, I don’t know what to do. Love the girl as a friend but when it came to that like dude, it’s just not, she’s not my person.’ I found my person” (h/t BJPenn.com).

Schaub also dished some details on the pair’s awkward split, insinuating that it was he who ultimately decided to end things with the women’s MMA pioneer.

“I had to have that conversation and it was awful,” Schaub added. “You just know. The last conversation, the last words I ever said to her, I just told her how I felt and it’s just not gonna work. Clearly, we’re both upset and I said ‘And you will never talk to me again, I know you and we will never talk again’, and we’ve never talked again.”

Two years after Brendan Schaub wrapped up his career following the loss to Browne, Ronda Rousey competed for the final time in mixed martial arts, suffering a brutal 48-second knockout loss to eventual two-division champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. ‘Rowdy’ has not strapped on the four-ounce gloves since.

Ex-UFC star Ronda Rousey claims Brendan Schaub 'Thrived on playing mind Games' during their relationship

Ronda Rousey loved seeing Travis Browne pummel her ex-boyfriend into retirement.

Before the former bantamweight women’s world champion walked away from mixed martial arts and married Browne, Rousey spent some time in a relationship with another former UFC heavyweight contender — Brendan Schaub.

While Rousey has stayed mostly tight-lipped about her time with Schaub, he has been fairly open about the past relationship, speaking about it on more than one occasion via his plethora of podcasts. However, Rousey recently offered some insight into the situation via her new book, Our Fight: A Memoir.

In it, Rousey reveals some of the struggles she faced while dating Schaub. Though she doesn’t name him specifically, ‘Rowdy’ provides enough details for fight fans to quickly identify who she’s talking bout.

Ronda Rousey

“Travis had been training with us for a while when it was announced that his first fight as an official member of our team would be against my ex-boyfriend,” Rousey wrote. “My ex thrived on playing f*cked-up mind games with me when I had a fight coming up and insisted we hide that we were dating so he wouldn’t be labeled ‘Ronda Rousey’s Boyfriend.’

“As Travis headed into the match up, I pretended it wasn’t personal,” she continued. “I tried not to be overly involved or emotional. This wasn’t my fight. I was hoping he would win, but I was in training camp, so I didn’t really think too much more about it. That is until it was on live TV, and I lost my goddamn mind. Screaming at the top of my lungs, ‘Get him, Travis!’ while punching the arm of the person on the couch next to me.”

Travis Browne fought six more times following his first-round knockout of Brendan Schaub. He went 1-5, suffering finishes against Cain Velasquez, Derrick Lewis, and Aleksei Oleinik. Overall, Browne went 18-7-1 in his MMA career.

Ronda Rousey

Schaub ultimately retired from the sport a year after his loss to Browne, closing out his career with a 10-5 record.

“When Travis knocked him out at the end of the first round, I didn’t think it could get any more gratifying,” Rousey said. “My ex covered up on the ground while Travis pounded away on him. The referee waved the match over. Then Travis, towering over the crumpled, semi-conscious body of my ex, leaned down and whispered something in his ear. His words were indiscernible to the camera, but I swore I could hear Travis’ voice saying, ‘Ronda says f*ck you.’”

Conor McGregor hints at UFC 300 return with possible announcement during Super Bowl

Former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub has an interesting theory as to why Conor McGregor has still not been booked for his return.

McGregor has been rehabbing his broken leg but has been campaigning for a return for quite some time. The Irishman has said he will be returning in June against Michael Chandler, but so far, nothing has been made official. However, according to Schaub, he believes the UFC is holding McGregor out of action so he can’t reach free agency and secure boxing fights on his own.

Brendan Schaub

“There’s more to that story that we’re not getting,” Schaub said, via The Mirror. “But it’s going be International Fight Week, Conor didn’t pull that out of his a**. It’s going to be Michael Chandler…

I really think Conor just wants to do that one fight and then bounce, and make all the money fighting Manny Pacquiao, Jake Paul, and Nate Diaz in boxing or MMA in their own promotion in Dublin or wherever,” Schaub continued. “That’s what’s going on there, UFC is trying to, you know, do what they do, and keep him under wraps. So, we’ll see what happens. To Dana’s defence, he also was like, ‘The reason we didn’t announce the fight is like he’s doing all this promo for his movie.

“And he’s like, ‘To do a movie tour promo, like, that takes all your attention. Now that that’s done, he’s going to go to a legit camp, and the fight will be announced.’ He’s like ‘We’re just waiting ’till this movie, you, do their thing, and then we’ll piggyback on that and you get a fight announcement.’ So I’d assume we get a fight announcement pretty soon,” Schaub added.

It is an interesting theory, as it has been reported that Conor McGregor is nearing the end of his UFC deal. But, whether or not that actually is the case is uncertain.

Dana White is uncertain when Conor McGregor will fight

Although Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler have both said their fight will be happening in June, Dana White has shot that idea down.

According to White, he says McGregor being as rich as he is makes it hard for the Irishman to want to compete.

“First problem was that he broke that shin bone. He was recovering from that. That was one of the reasons,” White said after UFC 298. “The other problem is he’s f*cking rich.”

Ultimately, many fans are hopeful that Conor McGregor will be returning this summer against Michael Chandler.
