UFC President Dana White was more concerned with the Canelo Álvarez fight during Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza’s women’s strawweight title fight at UFC 274 this past weekend.

White was pictured cageside during the title bout watching the Canelo Álvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol light heavyweight title bout on one of his monitors. Check that photo out here below.

In White’s defense, Namajunas and Esparza put on one of the most uneventful UFC title fights in recent memory. Both women were reluctant to engage, in regards to striking, for the majority of the contest. Esparza did, however, manage to get some takedowns during the fight.

It is also possible that White’s primary focus was still on the Esparza/Namajunas fight, as his gaze in the above photo appears to be situated on the strawweight title fight. However, White himself did admit during the post-fight press conference that he ‘zoned out’ during the title fight.

When it was all said and done, Esparza got her hand raised via split decision to unseat Namajunas from the 115-pound throne. Esparza again defeated Namajunas to become a UFC strawweight champion, as she did back in 2014 to win the inaugural title.

Despite the title change, the crowd was not impressed, booing both during and after the fight, voicing their frustration with the lack of action. After the fight, Esparza spoke on the lack of action during the bout, stating that Namajunas’ reluctance to engage was to blame for the lackluster contest.

“I believe my coaches told me that I was winning, I think they said she was going to be a little bit safe in that last round,” Esparza explained.

“I’m not too sure, in that last round I was just like ‘oh my gosh, I wanna do more, I really want to set in the eyes of the judges’. I hate to say it this way, but it’s hard to fight someone who doesn’t wanna fight.”

Canelo vs. Bivol certainly contained a lot more action. Bivol became the first man to defeat Álvarez inside the boxing ring since Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013. The Russian retained his light heavyweight titles over Álvarez via unanimous decision to improve his perfect record to 20-0.

Canelo Alvarez Suffers Decision Loss To Dmitry Bivol In Upset Title Defeat – Highlights

Canelo Alvarez

Undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez failed in his attempt to land the WBA super light heavyweight championship in a division leap last night against champion, Dmitry Bivol – suffering a unanimous decision loss over the course of 12 rounds in the pair’s Las Vegas, Nevada headliner.

Suffering just the second professional loss of his career following a prior judging defeat to former world champion, Floyd Mayweather back in September 2013, Canelo Alvarez had entered his light heavyweight division return off the back of a successful eleventh round finish over Jacob Plant back in November of last year – adding the IBF super middleweight title to his stacked and decorated mantle.

Failing to ever really mount any significant offense against the undefeated Russian, Bivol – Canelo landed a career-low number of strikes over the course of 12 total rounds, forced to fight from the outside as Bivol countered and defended expertly. Landing a successful title retention, Bivol landed a unanimous judging win on all three judge’s scorecards, who inked 115-113 on their official papers.

Managing to roll and stick up a persistent guard throughout the 12 round main event despite Canelo’s best efforts, Bivol admitted that he had felt the power coming from the Jalisco pound-for-pound king, but pointed to visible damage to his shoulder and arm – rather than his head.

“I felt his power,” Dmitry Bivol said post-fight. “As you can see from my arm, he (Canelo Alvarez) beat my arm up but not my head. It’s better. He had a good speed and power. Maybe his mistake was he threw only hard punches. After hard punches, he relaxed and (was) tired. I was feeling great. This was the biggest fight of my career and I enjoyed this fight. When the people booed me, it gave me more energy.”

Last night’s ‘Sin City’ defeat for Canelo snapped a whopping 16-fight winning streak for the Mexican puncher, who had previously made the light heavyweight limit back in November 2019 to land the WBO light heavyweight crown with a eleventh round knockout success against Bivol’s compatriot, Sergey Kovalev.

Below, catch the highlights from Canelo Alvarez’s upset defeat against Dmitry Bivol

Jake Paul has brazenly claimed that he is confident in his own ability to defeat Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in a similar fashion to how Dmitry Bivol overcame the p4p No.1.

This past weekend, combat sports fans were treated to a plethora of talent stacked events in both MMA and boxing. In the latter, Canelo Alvarez, who has oft been described as the face of modern boxing, took on Dmitry Bivol in a WBA light-heavyweight title in Las Vegas.

To the surprise of many, Bivol dominated much of the fight, winning a unanimous points decision win taking his undefeated record to 20 bouts.

Jake Paul, who has been extremely vocal in his desire to fight Alvarez in the future, was quick to react to the surprise loss. In a video posted to his Twitter account, he stated that:

“And just like that, Canelo Alverez loses to Dmitry Bivol. Amazing fight by Bivol. I’m two inches bigger than Bivol, twenty lbs heavier. Give me three years, I take out Canelo in the same way. He’s on the ropes like he won. He only won three rounds out of the whole entire fight. Eddie Hearn, f*ck you, you can suck my d*ck. I’m coming, I’m beating Canelo in three f*cking years. I put that on my momma. Congrats Dmitry Bivol.”

Jake Paul Reveals Date Of Next Fight

Whilst he is confident in his ability to defeat Canelo in the future, Jake Paul won’t be facing him just yet. For the time being, ‘The Problem Child’ will likely continue to fill out his record.

Whilst there is not yet an official opponent announcement, Jake Paul did recently reveal the date of his next boxing match. In a post to his Twitter account, the undefeated boxer stated that he will be back on “August 13th.”

Do you think Jake Paul could defeat Canelo?

White Urges Usman, Ngannou To End Crossover Talk: “Stop Guys, Stop”

UFC President Dana White has once again reiterated his disdain for modern crossover fights, pleading with the likes of welterweight champion Kamaru Usman to “stop.”

While it may have been a rare occurrence a number of years ago, nowadays, the idea of MMA stars crossing over to the boxing ring is hardly unheard of. From Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz to Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley, a host of stars have stepped through the ropes, not to mention Frank Mir’s venture into a…triangle?

While those names are perhaps small fry in the modern landscape of the sport, two destructive UFC champions have recently had their sights set on the squared circle: Usman and heavyweight king Francis Ngannou.

“The Nigerian Nightmare,” the UFC’s #1-ranked pound-for-pound star, has trained his aim on Canelo Álvarez, boxing’s P4P head. Meanwhile, “The Predator” has frequently expressed his desire to throw down with WBC and The Ring Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury throughout his ongoing contractual dispute with the MMA leader.

Now, Usman and Ngannou’s promotional boss has essentially asked, ‘What are you doing guys?’

During a recent interview with MMA Underground’s John Morgan, White praised Usman’s accomplishments, branding him the best-ever at 170 pounds. However, he reiterated that the 34-year-old has no business inside the ring with Canelo, a sentiment he repeated with regards to Ngannou’s own boxing ambitions.

“He’s (Usman) the best. He’s the greatest welterweight of all time. He’s the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. He’s good, (but) stay away from Canelo,” said White. “This whole boxing thing, you know, with these guys—Tyson Fury’s one of the best heavyweights of all time. The best heavyweights in the world can’t stand with this guy and fight him. Canelo Álvarez, I think he’s pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world in boxing. Nobody can beat him in boxing. Stop guys, stop.”

White: Nobody’s Knocking Any Doors Down To See These Fights

The match that arguably started the current ‘crossover fever’ saw then-double UFC champion Conor McGregor share the ring with undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather.

Their clash, dubbed “The Money Fight” and “The Biggest Fight In Combat Sports History,” attracted major attention and grossed a remarkable $938 million, sitting in second on the all-time list behind only Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s 2015 match, as well as drawing 4.3 million pay-per-view buys.

When Morgan asked White if he feels somewhat responsible for the current situation given his promotional involvement in that fight, the UFC chief admitted that the 2017 showdown started the ongoing trend.

However, he insisted the matchups that Ngannou and Usman are pushing for pale in comparison to the interest that existed prior to McGregor and Mayweather’s scrap. With that in mind, it’s safe to say that White won’t be getting involved in any more crossover bouts moving forward.

“There’s no doubt about it, that it did (open the door to crossover bouts). But they’re totally different,” said White. “What you have to understand is when that fight happened, everybody was going f*cking crazy over that fight. Everywhere I went, that’s all people talked about. The media, the fans, everybody wanted to see it. Nobody’s knocking any doors down to any of these fights.

“I get it, these guys all wanna get out there and try it and do it, but it’s not even remotely close to being the same,” White insisted.

Do you agree with Dana White’s take on Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou’s crossover ambitions?

Nate Diaz Jake Paul

UFC star Nate Diaz was recently told by a reporter that viral sensation Jake Paul has claimed he’d beat the boxing phenom, Canelo Alvarez, if they faced off in the ring.

Known for his funny antics and carefree attitude, Diaz is a beloved part of the MMA world along with his brother Nick Diaz. After being told the information about Paul by the reporter, ‘Mr. 209’ had nothing but disdain for the social media icon Paul.

The video is shot inside a gym, and you can see Diaz and a group of his friends overlooking some people grappling. “Jake Paul says he would beat Canelo,” the reporter tells Nate Diaz.

Diaz appears confused for a second, pondering what he just heard, before cracking a huge smile and laughing: “At what,” he said, chuckling and shaking his head.

“He said he’d do it in boxing,” the reporter said before the video ends with Diaz lightly shadowboxing, swinging a few hooks, while everyone is laughing (at Jake Paul, no doubt).

Nate Diaz vs. Jake Paul: Mere Fantasy, or a Fight That Needs to Happen?

A Nate Diaz vs. Jake Paul fight would no doubt be a blockbuster event. You could only imagine the leadup, and if marketed correctly you’d think it could be somewhat comparable to the leadup of the Diaz and Mcgregor fights.

A fight between the two has been teased before, with Paul saying he’s got Diaz on a hit-list, and ‘Mr.209’ basically just saying he’d love to beat up ‘The Problem Child’. While there’s nothing concrete now as far as a fight between the two of them happening, it could be considered pretty likely to happen someday in the future.

Jake Paul so far is undefeated in boxing, with knockouts over the likes of former NBA player Nate Robinson, former Bellator, and ONE FC welterweight champion Ben Askren, and more. Most recently he competed against Tyron Woodley in a rematch, knocking him out in round six.

Nate Diaz has been sidelined by the UFC for a long time now, and he’s growing increasingly frustrated. He’s looking to fight Dustin Poirier next but the UFC has been dragging their feet to get the fight done, according to both fighters.

Do you want to see Jake Paul take on either Nate Diaz or Canelo Alvarez?
