Former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit has a reputation for being an incredibly durable, exciting, high level athlete. Fighting out of Greg Jackson’s Albuquerque training facility in New mexico, the aptly named ‘Natural Born Killer’ has an immense cardio vascular capacity and mixes a unique style of striking and footwork as his primary offensive game.

After his UFC 143 interim title tilt against Nick Diaz, there was some criticism from viewers who later blasted ‘NBK’ as a ‘point fighter.’ To put things in perspective, Condit has 30 professional mixed martial arts wins, only two of which come by decision. From his 12 UFC bouts the former WEC welterweight champion has won seven ‘fight night’ bonuses, his promotional record stands at 8-4.

Condit has been out of action for six months now. He last fought in a gruelling five round affair against the champ Robbie Lawler at UFC 195, in a bout that was scored a split decision win for ‘Ruthless.’ Many fans and media members disputed the narrow decision, feeling Condit had landed enough volume to earn the victory and the championship belt, and for a while there was the possibility of an immediate rematch.

Lawler, who’s also not fought since their classic burner in January, has now been paired with Tyron Woodley for UFC 201 on July 30. Speculation on Condit’s possible retirement has swirled since that fight with ‘Ruthless’ and the former interim boss has remained pretty quiet lately.

Until today that is, as Carlos Condit gives a hint at his possible final fight for the UFC. It would certainly be a joy to see ‘The Natural Born Killer’ fight again, and fans are rallying for a rematch with Nick Diaz since the following video was released.

Over the course of the sport’s short history, Thailand’s revered Muay Thai kickboxing has become one of the most common and successful bases from which to transfer to MMA.

While we’ve learned that having skills in only one discipline is not a recipe for success in the modern version of MMA, many fighters with a focus on “the art of eight limbs” have found incredible success in the Octagon.

Originating in Thailand, where a booming professional scene still flourishes, Muay Thai is now used by combatants from all over the world.

This piece aims to rank the ten best fighters employing the striking style today. Devastating clinch work, slashing elbows, whipping kicks, and crushing knees all could gain a fighter entry to this list, as well as a traditional Muay Thai background. Those that use them to the most damaging effect, rely on them as fundamental to their games, and utilize a combination of these characteristic techniques set themselves apart and climb the ranks.

This is not an all-time list. That may come later. This one looks at the fighters on the current UFC roster most likely to finish a fight from the thai plum, break someone’s nose with a standing elbow, or send an opponent crashing to the canvas with a knee to the solar plexus.

August 1st is right around the corner, and if you are a Stockton native, a hardcore MMA fan, or just flat-out a fan of the Diaz Brothers, then you know what that means.

Nick Diaz’s 18-month suspension for a failed drug test at UFC 183 will be up on that day, and it’s time for the MMA star to step back inside the cage and deliver some more ‘Stockton Slaps’.

Initially, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended Diaz for five years and levied a hefty $165,000 fine for good measure. However, after appealing the suspension as well as a flurry of support from fellow fighters, media, and fans, the suspension was reduced to a mere 18 months with a smaller fine of $100,000.

With that said, let’s look at some of the top candidates to welcome Diaz back to the Octagon upon his return.

Don’t be scared, homies……

After weeks of speculation, the rumored Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley welterweight championship tilt for July 30’s UFC 201 pay-per-view event has been confirmed.

The UFC just confirmed that the 170-pound bout will headline the event from Atlanta’s Philips Arena online and tweeted this announcement:

Many feel that it’s a somewhat questionable booking, as Woodley has been out of action since he beat Kelvin Gastelum via controversial decision at UFC 183 in January 2015. He was supposed to face former champ Tyron Johny Hendricks in a title eliminator bout at October’s UFC 192, but was then promised a title shot when “Bigg Rigg” failed to make weight and backed out of the fight with a medical issue.

The booking is one of the rare instances where the UFC has promised a title shot and came through, and the No.3-ranked Woodley has only won two straight fights since No. 1 Rory MacDonald absolutely dominated him at UFC 174 in 2014. He does own a controversial win over recent title contender Carlos Condit where “The Natural Born Killer” tore his ACL off of a second-round takedown from “The Chosen One.”

MacDonald and No. 2 Stephen Thompson, who recently knocked out Hendricks in February, will face off for what should be the next shot at the winner of Lawler vs. Woodley in the main event of June 18’s UFC Fight Night 89 in the promotion’s debut in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

He’ll have his hands full with the surging champ Lawler, who has defended his belt twice since winning it from Hendricks in late 2014, defeating MacDonald in a bloody all-time great war at last summer’s UFC 189 before winning a highly controversial split decision of his own over Condit at this January’s UFC 195.

UFC 201 will mark the promotion’s first return to Atlanta since Jon Jones thoroughly defeated former friend and archrival Rashad Evans in their grudge match at 2012′ UFC 145.

Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley Potentially Headed For UFC 201 Main Event

It appears that welterweight champion Robbie Lawler will be headed for a title tilt with top contender Tyron Woodley in the main event of July 30’s UFC 201 pay-per-view (PPV) as was previously rumored.

Updating a prior statement from UFC President Dana White that said Lawler would ‘probably’ defend his title against Woodley at either UFC 201 or 202, who has been out of action since a closely-contested decision win over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 183 in January 2015, word came on Wednesday’s (May 4, 2016) edition of UFC Tonight that “Ruthless” will potentially headline 201.

Fan favorite slugger Lawler has won five straight bouts in the UFC, including back-to-back “Fight of the Year” candidates against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit at UFC 189 and UFC 195, respectively, improving his record to an impressive 8-1 since he returned to the promotion in early 2013. Before moving down to welterweight, Lawler had lost five out of eight bouts fighting some of the top middleweight talent on the planet in Strikeforce.

Woodley, meanwhile, was supposed to face former champion and Lawler rival Johny Hendricks in the co-main event of UFC 192, but “Bigg Rigg” was forced out of the bout the day of weigh-ins due to complications with his highly-publicized and drastic weight cut. “The Chosen One” has won four out of his last five UFC matches, with the one defeat in that span an extremely lopsided decision loss to MacDonald at UFC 174.

White promised Woodley a title shot for the strange circumstances, and it looks like he’ll deliver on that promise if “Ruthess” vs. “The Chosen One” does indeed became UFC 201’s headliner.
