We just updated our UFC 117 betting odds side bar to the right.

A good deal of movement in the lines and some good value to be had. Here’s a look at where to make your wagers.

:: As expected, a lot of public money is moving towards Anderson Silva. Chael Sonnen looking batshit crazy recently in denying he made an interview that he clearly made probably isn’t helping his cause either. But Silva moved over 50 points the past few weeks (for example, from +450 to +525 at Bodog). So if you, like us, think Silva eviscerates Sonnen, grab him at -400 at BetUS. If you think Sonnen has a shot at an upset, get him at +350 on Bodog here.

:: On the co-headliner, BetUS has Jon Fitch at Even, so take here that over the -105-130 offered elsewhere. BetED has Thiago Alves oddly listed as a dog at +100, so pick it up here.

:: Finally, Junior Dos Santos is a heavy favorite, but is listed as a less slightly heavy favorite at Bodog (-325) here. Roy Nelson, who we think definitely has a shot for an upset, has by far the best value at Bookmaker, who has him listed at +310 (he’s +250 everywhere else). So if you like Nelson in an upset, take the +310 at Bookmaker here.

:: And finally finally, just cause there’s always a big upset and we love the nickname, take Rodney “Sho Nuff the Master” Wallace at Bodog at +500 here.

Junior dos Santos Doesn’t Think Sonnen Offers Silva “Much Danger”

In our unsolicited opinion only a fool can’t be excited about this weekend’s UFC 117; of course thanks in part to the entertaining and or infuriating antics of Chael Sonnen, the whole MMA world is chomping at the bit to see how he fairs against Anderson Silva. In our unsolicited opinion only a fool can’t be excited about this weekend’s UFC 117; of course thanks in part to the entertaining and or infuriating antics of Chael Sonnen, the whole MMA world is chomping at the bit to see how he fairs against Anderson Silva. Not only is the bout compelling due to Sonnen’s pre-fight trash talking, people are anxious to see how Silva deals with the punishing wrestler’s aggressive style. Will Sonnen be forced to eat a sheeat load of humble pie come night’s end? Or will Silva’s much hullaballooed reign as P4P champ come to a halt?

Well, according to Junior dos Santos, (who so happens to be fighting Roy Nelson Saturday which should also be sick), apparently he’s not too worried about his Brazilian countryman losing to Sonnen. Speaking to Tatame Magazine recently, here is some of what dos Santos had to say, when asked for his thoughts on the UFC 117 main event.

“A bout is a bout, you can never know what will happen, but of course that Anderson is the favorite. Sonnen doesn’t offer much danger to Anderson, because Anderson has more than everybody’s expectation of a win, he’s also a very smart guy and has been proving it on the last years on which he’s been fighting on UFC. It’ll be another great result for him, I believe he’ll keep himself as the champion and that this title will remain here in Brazil….”

Yes, yes, naturally there’s some bias there; Junior goes on to say that he thinks Silva can win by either KO or submission. We shall see “Cigano,” we shall see… (cue dramatic music). Anyone care to wager?

Chael Sonnen Denies Making Comments About Lance Armstrong

So yesterday we joked that if Chael Sonnen was still making a political run for the Oregon House, his recent comments on Pro MMA Radio  regarding Lance Armstrong, likely wouldn’t have been too helpful in the PR deparment. In this day and age of around the clock media coverage, with a bazillion internet sites looking for anything to run as a headline, stating that the 7 time Tour De France winner cheated, and further, that Armstrong’s well documented battle with cancer was as a result of allegedly taking PEDs, well, that’s kind of a sh-t load of fodder for your political opponents no?

While Sonnen no longer has to concern himself about a political campaign (which if he were this story would likely be plastered on something like the Huffington Post … oh wait a minute…), no one should be surprised that the talented fighter has already been asked for a ‘follow up.’ While speaking to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, Sonnen outright denied making the comments, stating he’s never talked to Pro MMA Radio’s Larry Pepe…WTF? When asked specifically about Armstrong, Chael responded:

“I never spoke of Lance Armstrong ever. Never. Not until just now.”

Now, we’re far from experts in anything, much less voice analysis, so check out the show for yourself. Head to around the one hour / thirty mark of the show to hear Sonnen, or some dude that sounds just like him, lay into Armstrong. If the whole Twitter fiasco wasn’t bad enough… this is just outright messed up.

Oh yeah, this site is about MMA; if you want to throw some dough down on UFC 117, head here.

Giving more weight to our theory that Chael Sonnen legitimately suffers from multiple personality disorder, the UFC’s #1 middleweight contender did an interview with Ariel Helwani yesterday in which he denied saying that Lance Armstrong gave himself cancer by taking steroids. Keep in mind that Sonnen made those incendiary comments on a publicly-broadcast radio interview that you can still listen to any time you feel like it. Here’s the exchange with Helwani, which begins at the 4:19 mark:

AH: A lot of people took offense to what you said about Lance Armstrong recently, to Larry Pepe. Can you elaborate on that?

CS: I never did an interview with Larry Pepe.

AH: The Lance Armstrong stuff, you never said.

CS: I never spoke of Lance Armstrong ever. Never. Not until just now.

Chael SonnenTo hype his UFC middleweight title fight with Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen has employed a simple strategy: Say as many outrageous things about Silva as he can think of.

But as Saturday night’s fight draws closer, Sonnen isn’t satisfied with just taking on Silva. He has now decided to verbally attack Lance Armstrong, suggesting in an interview that Armstrong’s cancer was caused by the use of performance-enhancing drugs, and that Armstrong’s support of cancer research has been nothing more than an elaborate fraud.
