In the aftermath of Nate Diaz’s shocking submission victory over featherweight champion Conor McGregor at March’s UFC 196, the UFC quickly booked the rematch between the two stars for July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 card from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada – and then the McGregor madness took over the MMA world.

After momentarily ‘retiring’, the “Notorious” one was pulled from UFC 200 and the rematch was scrapped. The UFC had claimed that the Irishman decided not to attend a press conference in Las Vegas leading up to the bout and for that reason, the promotion had no choice but to pull him from the card.

Eventually, after a whirlwind of chaos, all parties were able to come to an agreement, and Diaz vs. McGregor II was recently scheduled to headline August 20’s UFC 202 in Las Vegas. With that being said, it was very odd to see Diaz take to his official Instagram account earlier tonight (June 20, 2016) and say that he and McGregor would be fighting at UFC 200.

The Stockton native claimed that he would be coming to get his ‘show money’, however, he quickly edited the caption to say that he was ‘not fighting’ at the event after causing an uproar among fans:

See uguys at #ufc200 going to get that showmoney #itstime #100 ??????????????

Despite the initial surprise, it appears as if we have yet another classic Diaz prank on our hands, but could he still be receiving his money for the event?

Jon Jones ‘Absolutely’ Willing To Main Event UFC 200

In the aftermath of a shocking state of events coming yesterday (April 19, 2016) that involved UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor tweeting that he was retiring, and subsequently being pulled from his scheduled UFC 200 main event with Nate Diaz, the promotion is looking for a bout to fill out the blockbuster July 9th card.

One man that could step up to save the day would be reigning pound-for-pound king and former light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones.

Jones hasn’t competed since January 2015 when he scored a unanimous decision victory over bitter rival Daniel “DC” Cormier.

That April, “Bones” was arrested on felony charges and stripped of his long-held title. He has since resolved his legal issues, and is scheduled to return in the main event of this Saturday’s (April 23, 2016) UFC 197 against Ovince St. Preux for the interim 205 pound strap.

Jones was originally slated to receive his long awaited rematch with “DC”, who now holds the title, but Cormier was forced to withdraw from the bout just a few weeks ago due to injury.

With that being said, if Jones is victorious this weekend, and Cormier heals up, the two stars could finally meet again this July.

“Bones” appears to be all for it:

“Absolutely, I would totally step in to UFC 200 and fill in that main event or co-main event slot,” Jones told ESPN.

As far as McGregor goes, Jones simply doesn’t feel as if we’ve truly seen the last of the brash Irishman, noting his deep respect for the “Notorious” one:

“I don’t think he’s retired,” Jones said. “I don’t think he’s going to retire. Just a few days ago, he said on Instagram he’s hungry like day one. Conor is a fighter and he is a winner. I don’t think he would want to go out on a loss. I think if he doesn’t fight again, his legacy is really that Diaz fight.

“Hats off to him for standing up for what he believes is right. At the end of the day, business is business. The guy obviously has respect for himself and his talents. Fights like this will help fighters in the future. I respect his willingness to fight for what’s right.”

What do you make of the McGregor situation, and would you like to see Jones fill in at UFC 200?

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is in unfamiliar territory in terms of weight at UFC 196, but he has his eyes on Robbie Lawler’s prize….

From salads to steaks has been the story of Conor McGregor’s trip to 170 pounds, where he finds himself facing a new opponent in the form of Nate Diaz at UFC 196. The original headline bout was set between ‘The Notorious’ and Rafael dos Anjos for the Brazilian’s lightweight championship, but the fight got scrapped when RDA suffered a broken foot in training. Diaz was sewn in to the card on 12 days notice, in a situation that echoes the run up to UFC 189 featuring Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.

So the pairing of the Stockton bad boy and the Irish fan favorite seems to be a match made in heaven, but the fight carries some serious risks for both men. For starters, Diaz being in on short notice had raised questions about his fitness, but the recent images of the younger Diaz bro training for a marathon brought back the legitimacy of this fight to an agreeable level.

Obviously it will take a lot more than being in shape for a fight against ‘The Notorious’ to be a successful one, but a performance like Diaz pulled off against top contender Michael Johnson would be a good starting point. We know the gameplan in the striking with Diaz, it’s stay on the outside but not give enough opportunity for McGregor to get a rhythm. Whether Diaz is able to implement that is another story. As far as the ground game goes, getting this one to the mat ASAP might be a better road to victory for Nate.

We’ve talked a lot about what’s next for McGregor after this fight, and he was asked that very question after his UFC 196 open workout last night (Wednesday March 2, 2016) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
