Nate Diaz set the MMA world ablaze (pun intended) during a slow week for the sport during a special episode of “The MMA Hour” with Ariel Helwani earlier today, and no topic was safe.

He laid out his plans to take the rest of 2017 off without a proper offer from his bosses, but Diaz didn’t stop there. Far from it, actually. With his sights set on Conor McGregor and even his potential boxing opponent Floyd Mayweather, the polarizing fan favorite detailed a phone conversation he had with “Money” right after he just got done enjoying some of his favorite herbs, a conversation McGregor later used to call Diaz a “bitch.”

However, Nate set the record straight to Helwani:

“So Floyd Mayweather randomly calls me, I just smoked a joint. I’m like, ‘What the fuck? This is fuckin’…odd.’ You know, I’m like, ‘What up?’ And I even thought to myself, ‘He thinks he’s a fuckin’ genius. I look, and I’m talking to Mayweather, and I never talked to Mayweather before, I’m like, ‘What up?’ And I was thinking like, ‘You know what? Fuck this dude, he’s gonna fight with McGregor and make all this money?’ Fuck that, I don’t mean to be a hater, but fuck that. I wanted to fight these motherfuckers. I was thinking about being like, ‘Fuck you, motherfucker, what the fuck you calling me for?’ and I was thinking about hangin’ up quick. But then when I was talking to him, I was like, ‘That’s Floyd Mayweather, I have respect for the man, you know what I’m sayin’? I fuckin’ am a martial artist; that’s guy’s the best at what he does and has been doin’ it for years.”

Diaz then said he would beat McGregor in a boxing match, and that “The Notorious” calling out a smaller fighter in Mayweather wasn’t even a legit challenge:

“Either way, I woulda whipped your ass in a boxing match, McGregor, but Mayweather’s gonna fight you. Whatever, I got winner in a boxing match or a fight. And you’re not even being that challenging. Fight a heavyweight fool, five-five, a boxer, heavyweight division, I’ll whoop his ass in mixed martial arts, how about that? That’s a challenge, that’s something people should want to see. What you wanna see, I’m not gonna talk shit to no little-ass 147-pound Mayweather; I don’t even fight at that weight.”

Diaz was then asked if he had any resentment to the fact that the UFC was trying to make that fight happen, as he had long been the face of boxing in MMA. Diaz revealed that boxing promotions had tried to buy out his contract from the UFC in years past, but they never let anything happen:

“Years ago, boxing promotions were trying to buy my contract out from the UFC. And UFC wouldn’t let me out, and they always came in under the radar.”

But even if Diaz sounds bitter about the whole thing, he believes it will all work out in his favor. He’s sick of all the hype about McGregor vs. Mayweather, and wants to see the UFC actually make the fight happen with it being the only major attraction in a barren year for the UFC.

No matter who wins, he says, things will look good for a huge potential fight with him in the future:

“I already said it, I’m calling their bluff. Can we pick up the place please? I thought it was going to, but now everybody’s died down and shut up. Every week they were talking shit back and forth. It’s all a fuckin’ hype game, they’re building each other up and UFC’s in on it too. Bring boxing back alive, bring MMA alive; it’s the only thing going on. It’s only cause it’s the only thing going on and they’re selling it as that.

“Mayweather’s coming back relevant, McGregor’s staying relevant, and the boxers are all known and the UFC sees that, and now everybody’s like, “Oh, this is the biggest thing.” So it was good for everybody to happen, but now that it’s time to happen, where’s it at? I call they bluff, make the fight happen. Let’s see it the fuck happen, because in the end, I’m the winner in the whole thing anyway.

“If McGregor fuckin’ wins, then Mayweather just got beat – the best boxer right now – just got beat by the guy I beat the fuck out of. That’s good for me. And if Mayweather knocks his ass out, it’s like, who gives a fuck? I already whipped his ass anyway; now fight a real G? You know what I’m saying? Fight the real shit like I said. And if you come back to MMA, fight Ferguson; then you can get a shot at the golden ticket. You’re the bitch. That’s why I’m saying he’s the bitch.”

With the first four months devoid of fights that drive fans’ interest, the collective MMA world was wishing Nate Diaz would finally reveal a blockbuster return when he spoke to Ariel Helwani on a special episode of “The MMA Hour” today.

But the opposite is unfortunately true, as Diaz revealed he hasn’t spoken much with UFC President Dana White nor the new owners at WME-IMG, so rumors of him facing Tony Ferguson for an interim lightweight title while Conor McGregor chases a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather are just that – rumors:

“Dana White, we haven’t talked too much. That’s why I’m saying; I wonder what’s their deal, and what they wanna do. I’m hearing rumors and I feel a lot of pressure, people always like tell me this. I’m fighting Ferguson, and I’m doing this, and Conor’s sitting out, and Conor’s manager sitting there saying I need to impress someone. I’m like, what the fuck? You guys need to fight each other and impress me. The real gold’s right here. It’s funny to me how Conor McGregor’s manager says I need to light a fire under McGregor’s ass to get a third fight. The real champ is right here. They can light a fire under my ass.

The younger Diaz brother previously stated he would only return for a trilogy match with McGregor, a bout he wants $20 million to participate in. With no concrete plans – or even preliminary discussions – to return to the octagon, Diaz expressed his anger at McGregor’s attempt to fight Mayweather, citing his belief that everyone seems to have forgotten he submitted the Irishman in their first meeting at March 2016’s UFC 196:

“Conor is a fucking bitch. He got choked. If Floyd beats Conor who cares, I already beat his ass. Everybody seems to have forgot what happened. I don’t even want a third fight. Fuck Conor. He can go fuck himself. I don’t owe anybody any favors. I’d like to be treated with a little bit more respect.“

Diaz then stated his intention to sit out for the rest of 2017 without an offer on the table. Even if you think he has to fight to make money, he said he absolutely does not. With a whole host of lucrative opportunities available in the commercial cannabis industry, Diaz said the weed world is simply throwing cash at him, showing a jar of Kush to Helwani:

“In one year I got the two biggest selling pay-per-views in UFC history. I’m not going to die off. The cannabis industry is throwing money at me.”

Diaz was reportedly offered a fight with former champion Eddie Alvarez at next week’s UFC 211, but actually took offense to the offer, which he insisted Alvarez turned down on the first place based on the onetime Bellator champion’s performance against a man he submitted earlier last year:

“They called me about the Eddie Alvarez fight. Eddie Alvarez had his chance. Eddie’s ass turned it down. Do you want the Eddie Alvarez fight? How dare you? You just got melted by the guy I beat up.”

Michael Bisping Cries Hypocrisy In UFC: Conor McGregor Is ‘Jesus Reincarnated’

Middleweight champion Michael Bisping is fighting Georges St-Pierre – or at least he supposedly is, pending a hard-to-find date for the bout – and he doesn’t care what the many critics of his pending payday think.

Most of those critics believe Bisping should forego the bout with a returning St-Pierre, the former welterweight champion who has never fought at 185 pounds, for a title defense with clear-cut number one contender Yoel Romero, an understandable stance given the fact “The Count” made his first and only title defense against retiring legend and then No. 14-ranked Dan Henderson last October.

But according to the outspoken Brit, he’s going to receive backlash no matter what he does, and he finds a bit of hypocrisy in that fact. The champ spoke up on the latest episode of the “Believe You Me” podcast (via FOX Sports) to offer the opinion that Conor McGregor, who’s currently out of the UFC teasing a potential boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, can do exactly what he’s doing and worse, and he’s lauded as the greatest fighter in MMA for it:

“Whatever I do I get [expletive] off everybody. Conor McGregor can do no wrong. He is Jesus reincarnated. He can walk on water. He can do whatever the [expletive] he wants. He can leave the sport of UFC and go chase a boxing match and that’s still the best thing ever, holding up two divisions whilst he’s at it.

“Me, Jesus Christ, all I try to do is get a big payday and I’m scum of the Earth. I am the devil.”

“The Count” didn’t stop there either, noting that whomever he did choose to defend the middleweight title against, all of the other top contenders in the currently stacked 185-pound fray will be disappointed, leaving him in a no-win situation. Bisping insists he’s fighting St-Pierre and they simply have to deal with it, so he suggested all of the chirpy top-ranked middleweights looking to get a fight with him do just what he did throughout his lengthy grind to a title shot – quit complaining and win fights:

“Here’s the thing, the top seven [fighters] are calling me out, whichever one of them, because they’re all tough. They’re all tough guys, let’s be honest. They’re all very, very good. Whichever one of them I pick, the other six are all going to [expletive] and whine and complain. So you can’t win,” Bisping said. “I’m fighting Georges St-Pierre, [expletive] deal with it. If you want to fight in the mean time, go ahead.

“Luke Rockhold’s still talking [expletive], he hasn’t put a glove on since I knocked him out in the first round. Yoel hasn’t fought in a long time. If you’re so good, continue to fight. When I didn’t have a title shot, when I wasn’t the champion and didn’t get a title shot, I didn’t whine and [expletive] and complain. I just got on with it and I kept fighting. I hoped and I always had that in my heart, I would keep fighting and keep doing what I can do and here I am. I got there in the end. So guys, stop whining, stop [expletive], just get on with it.”

After months and months of speculation, yesterday UFC President Dana White gave us what may have been the most concrete evidence that the long-rumored boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather was going to happen.

White revealed McGregor would make $75 million and Mayweather would still out-earn”The Notorious” at ‘$100-plus million,’ and not surprisingly, the Irish superstar had a response to those estimations. McGregor took to his official Instagram account to reveal he would actually be making over $100 million himself thanks to his side ventures:

And you’d probably find it hard to argue with “The Notorious on this one, as his endorsements and other money-making aspects would most likely push him well past the $100 million mark for a fight that could certainly be billed as the biggest combat sporting events of all-time (at least the most current one).

White claims negotiations are only ‘a few days’ away from being finalized, but he may not like what he’s asking for, because the landscape is hard to envision McGregor returning to the UFC for his normal paycheck after fighting Mayweather for the most lucrative payday a UFC fighter has ever earned.

That’s not going to excite the MMA fans looking for him to make his first-ever title defense.

Daniel Cormier Wants To Co-Main McGregor vs. Mayweather Against Jon Jones

Dana White may not trust potentially returning former champion Jon Jones to headline a major event in his first fight back, but apparently that’s just fine with “Bones’” prospective opponent and longtime rival Daniel Cormier. Dana White may not trust potentially returning former champion Jon Jones to headline a major event in his first fight back, but apparently that’s just fine with “Bones’” prospective opponent and longtime rival Daniel Cormier.

Just over one week after his second submission victory over top contender Anthony Johnson in the main event of April 8’s UFC 210, Cormier told TMZ Sports that he wants to rematch “Bones” in the co-main event of the long-rumored Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing super fight due to the guaranteed chance at life-changing money involved:

“Do you realize that any human being that gets part of the pay-per-view would definitely want to be a part of that?” said Cormier. “That’s life-changing money that you will never see in your life if you’re on a card with Mayweather and McGregor, me and Jon Jones being able to do ridiculous numbers, we’d get paid.”

It definitely would be a once-in-a-lifetime event if Cormier and Jones could have their anticipated rematch right before McGregor and Mayweather face off in arguably the biggest combat sports event ever staged, but it’s also no guarantee that Jones will even fight Cormier in his return bout.

The troubled former champion is eligible to return from a one-year USADA suspension in July and he just recently got off of probation for the hit-and-run accident that left a pregnant woman injured and put his fight career on hold in the most disturbing way mere months after he topped Cormier by unanimous decision in their first meeting.

Cormier may fight surging knockout slugger Jimi Manuwa before then, but if he’s truly focused on making the biggest payday like his idea above surely suggests, then he’d be wise to sit and wait to see how the strangle and unpredictable “Bones” saga plays out.

It’s just no surprise that Cormier – and Jones’ employers at the UFC – won’t be surprised if somehow it does not end up a reality.

The post Will Conor McGregor Ever Return To The UFC After Mayweather? appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

It’s safe to say the mixed martial arts (MMA) world is awash with never-ending updates about the long-rumored Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match.

The proposed megafight is a bout that seems both an almost certain eventuality and light years away, contrasting juxtapositions that rear their heads when negotiating money with “Money” comes into play. Nevertheless, news arrived today that McGregor had ‘begun training’ for Mayweather, and it’s looking more and more like this fight will happen because there’s simply too much green to be made for “Notorious,” Mayweather, and even the UFC.

And they should make it. This is a once-in-a-generation – perhaps even in a lifetime – type of fight that cannot be passed. It’s almost assured that UFC champion McGregor will bring all of the hype and trash talk Manny Pacquiao never did to his drawn-out rivalry with Mayweather, and at 28, he’ll also bring the youth and knockout skills of a world-class fighter in his prime that “Pac Man” did not.

Yet if and when this so-called super fight – where one of the participants has never actually fought a professional match – does take place like all signs are pointing towards, it will undoubtedly have some incredibly weighted and lasting ramifications for the rest of McGregor’s combat sports career.

The Irishman has frequently conveyed his goal in the fight game was to get in, get rich, and get out, and there is not another fight that could help him accomplish that goal more than a boxing match with Mayweather. He’s already taking a monstrous amount of heat in the MMA world for not ever defending a single one of his belts for one reason or another, but if he gets the payday this fight promises, none of that is going to matter to the polarizing pugilist.

It’s that brazen attitude that has propelled McGregor to never-before-seen heights in MMA, ones where whether you love him or hate him, you just can’t deny he’s MMA’s most recognizable face for several reasons, both inside and outside of the cage. MMA needs him but he clearly doesn’t need it. If by far his biggest payday comes inside a boxing ring, and especially if it reaches $50 million or more like it could, then it’s just going to be almost downright impossible to return to the Octagon for a payday of even say, $10 million.

While that sentence sounds ridiculous based on the relative pittance many UFC fighters are paid and complain daily about, “Notorious” is a meteor that just won’t stop, and he’s obviously always looking for the biggest fight. He won’t be in a rush to return to face the top lightweight in Khabib Nurmagomedov, the man whom most give the easiest shot at beating “Notorious” because of his peerless wrestling, and he almost certainly wouldn’t take a massive pay cut to face Ferguson, whom he may view as a lesser draw (as it matters when his name is attached).

There’s also some evidence to suggest this, as McGregor’s close friend and teammate Gunnar Nelson recently revealed he would only return to MMA if the ‘depends on certain things.’ McGregor has a well-publicized offer out to new UFC owners Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell to negotiate a bigger cut in the profits of the show he feels he runs, and with Mayweather the topic of the day, no news has surfaced about that as of yet.

The UFC paydays are nice, but McGregor just won’t need them if he does get his fight with Mayweather, win or lose. He’ll be set for life, and as former boxing champion Marvin Hagler once said, “It’s tough to get out of bed at 5 a.m. and do roadwork when you’ve been sleeping in silk pajamas.”

That’s not to say McGregor has lost any of the competitive fire to be the best in the UFC; his last two performances show he clearly hasn’t. But that doesn’t mean, even with MMA super fights against Georges St-Pierre, Nick Diaz, or Tyron Woodley available, that he’s going to come back to MMA after he faces Mayweather, win or lose. He’s not likely to take a ton of damage in that bout, something that may or may not be true about potential lightweight title fights against Nurmagomedov or Ferguson.

The deck is set for McGregor to fight Mayweather and get paid huge. If he returns to MMA after that, however, is anyone’s guess.

One thing is certain though: if we never get to see the “Notorious” defend one of his UFC belts, MMA fans will have been cheated out of what could have been a more legendary career.

What do you think? Will Conor McGregor return to the UFC if he faces Floyd Mayweather?
