Conor McGregor is determined to prove he, not Max Holloway, is the best boxer in MMA and insists he will do just that when he squares off against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 this weekend.

Holloway wowed fans and fighters with his performance against Calvin Kattar at UFC Fight Island 7. The former featherweight champ displayed his elite-level boxing skills to beat up Kattar over five rounds to claim a lopsided decision win.

In the fifth and final round, ‘Blessed’ began talking to the commentators. He told Daniel Cormier, Dan Hardy, and Jon Anik he was the best boxer in MMA while simultaneously dodging punches from Kattar.

McGregor praised Holloway’s performance in a recent interview with The Mac Life, he said.

“I thought it was a solid performance. He fought an up and comer and he done well. I was actually doing an interview there and he skateboarded by the window, so he’s obviously hanging around. Yeah, fair play to him. More power to him. He’s definitely in the pipeline for a bout against me, for sure. I would happily rematch Max and after a performance like that, he’s put himself right up there.

“He’s only fought at 155 once,” McGregor added. “He fought against Dustin and he was out-powered but he could certainly do it, and against other lightweights you never know but me and him, the rematch would be 155 for sure.

McGregor’ reconnected with his childhood trainers at Crumlin Boxing Club a few years ago and has taken his boxing to another level since then. The Irishman insists he is the best boxer in MMA and will prove that against Poirier at UFC 257.

“I’m certainly more stable and connected to the floor and then I can flash it up,” McGregor said. “I can go through all styles, I can paint many pictures inside that Octagon. It’s just another wrinkle in my beautiful suit so I look forward to getting in and showcasing all my skills. Boxing is certainly prevalent but I’m flying through the air also. I’m ready for it all.

“[Max] is not the best boxer and I’ll prove that on Sunday,” McGregor concluded. “Watch, I’ll end up kicking bleedin’ Dustin in the head like the last one. I had the boxing crew with me and I end up kicking Donald in the head and breaking his face with my shoulders. I have so many shots and it will just come out magically on the night, so we’ll see what happens.”

Jake Paul is still pursuing a boxing match against MMA superstar Conor McGregor.

The YouTube celebrity transitioned to 2020 and looked good against extremely low-level opposition. Paul stretched his undefeated professional record to 2-0 when he sensationally knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.

Post-fight, the 23-year-old called for a fight with McGregor and his SBG teammate Dillon Danis. Since then, Paul has relentlessly pursued both men.

He made a public offer of $50 million to McGregor for the fight while also taking shots at his fiancée Dee Devlin.

The internet celebrity also gate-crashed a recent Danis interview, throwing water balloons at the BJJ wizard before driving away.

McGregor has ignored the callouts until recently. In an interview with Bloomberg ‘Notorious’ finally address ‘The YouTube Kid’, Jake Paul and refused to rule out fighting him.

“The numbers that that show calculated was a Mike Tyson fight. You had an icon fighting as well as Roy Jones Jr., two GOATs [greatest of all time] of combat sports,” McGregor said.

“And then you had the YouTube kid and NBA star competing underneath that. So they done good business. Am I into those competitions myself? You know it’s not the most high-level – if any level – at that stage…

“As they say, if it makes dollars, it makes sense. I know Dana [White] and the UFC are not really into it, but I’m not so against it. I think if people are willing to get in and take the risk of making that walk, I’m certainly a viewer.”

In his latest Instagram post, the American dines on some chicken while accusing McGregor of avoiding him.

“I love all chickens, besides Conor McGregor. He is the world’s biggest chicken,” Paul said. “Conor, you were just talking about me in the media saying, ‘If it makes money, it makes sense. I offered you $50 million, you’re getting paid $5million to fight Dustin Poirier. I think you’re a chicken.”

McGregor Poirier

Contrary to popular belief, striking coach Owen Roddy believes the UFC 257 headliner going into the latter rounds benefits Conor McGregor over Dustin Poirier.

McGregor faces Poirier in a lightweight rematch this Saturday at UFC 257 in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Having knocked out Poirier in their first meeting back in 2014, the general consensus seems to be that McGregor will get the knockout win again.

However, many observers feel if Poirier can drag the fight beyond the first two rounds, he has a much greater chance of winning. The belief, of course, is that McGregor tends to gas out as the fight goes on — evidenced by his first UFC defeat which came at the hands of Nate Diaz in 2016.

However, McGregor’s coach in Roddy believes the fight playing out that way actually plays into the hands of his pupil rather than Poirier.

“I doubt it’s going to go that far, but you’ll see,” Roddy told Submission Radio (via Middle Easy). “If it does go to (rounds) three, four, and five… I can’t see it going that far, but I think it will be a lot worse for Poirier if I’m being honest, because you don’t want Conor hitting you for 25 minutes, and he can set a pace, Conor.

“He is in phenomenal shape. He is in the best shape I’ve ever seen him in my life, physically and mentally. So I think it would be dangerous. I think Poirier would be taking a lot of dangerous blows if he managed to stay in there, but I still don’t see him staying in there.”

Of course, the goal for McGregor is to get the early knockout which is exactly what he has predicted. But it would certainly be interesting to see how he holds up in the late rounds — especially at 155 pounds.

Conor McGregor’s team have denied any wrongdoing in the latest case against him.

According to the Irish Independent, a woman is suing the former two-weight UFC champion in a multimillion dollar personal injury lawsuit. The woman’s mother has also filed a personal injuries action claim with both being filed on Monday.

Due to legal reasons in Ireland, the specifics of the allegations cannot be revealed as of now.

“Proceedings have been served. We can make no further comment as the matter is before the courts,” Dave Coleman of Coleman Legal Partners and representative of the women told the Independent.

McGregor’s team, however, have denied any wrongdoing as the “matter was previously the subject of an extensive investigation by An Garda Siochana.”

McGregor spokesperson Karen J. Kessler provided the following statement:

“After an exhaustive investigation conducted by the Gardaí which, in addition to interviews of the plaintiff, included interviewing numerous sources, obtaining witnesses’ statements, examining closed circuit footage and the cooperation of Conor McGregor, these allegations were categorically rejected. The plaintiff knows the facts contradict the assertions in this lawsuit. Mr. McGregor will dispute any claims and is confident that justice will prevail.”

It’s not the first time McGregor has found himself in hot water.

The Irishman had two sexual assault allegations tied to his name in 2019 while he was also arrested in September last year in France on allegations of sexual assault and indecent exposure. However, none of these cases have resulted in charges against McGregor.

The timing of this latest case is not ideal as McGregor takes on Dustin Poirier in the UFC 257 headliner on Saturday night.
