Luke Keeler does not expect to be boxing Conor McGregor but hasn’t completely ruled it out.

It was recently reported that McGregor was in talks to face the Irish and WBO European middleweight champion in a boxing match in Dublin later this year. That was after Keeler criticized the fellow Irishman for his attack on an old man earlier this year.

But while there were talks, Keeler does not see it happening at least in the near future:

“There is more chance of him going to prison or rehab than fighting me, but you never know,” Keeler told Irish-Boxing.com. “No, seriously, there have been talks but the team decided to focus on a world title fight as it’s close to being agreed.

I honestly don’t think he is in any position to fight anytime soon. I’ll pick up the world title and he can get himself right. When they both happen there will be more chance of it happening. I’m focusing on my own end of things now.”

When McGregor initially tweeted about Dublin in December 14, many expected him to return at UFC 245 which takes place the same day, albeit in Las Vegas. However, if he was referring to a boxing match with Keeler, it would likely overshadow the end-of-year UFC event.

For now, nothing is confirmed.

Do you think McGregor will box Keeler? Are you interested in seeing it?

Conor McGregor Reportedly ‘In Talks’ To Box Luke Keeler In December

It looks like Conor McGregor’s cryptic December fight Tweet wasn’t referring to MMA after all. It looks like Conor McGregor’s cryptic December fight Tweet wasn’t referring to MMA after all.

According to a report from The Irish Star (via The Sun), McGregor is “in talks” to face Irish boxing champion Luke Keeler in Dublin later this year. This comes after McGregor and Keeler’s back-and-forth following the criticism Keeler had for the UFC star when footage leaked of him hitting an old man in a pub.

The current middleweight titleholder claimed he had an exchange of words with McGregor over the phone after a series of Tweets, leading to the two agreeing to box each other. The Irish Star is reporting the “grudge match” is being targeted for December 14, the same date McGregor Tweeted out recently. Initially, fans believed McGregor was suggesting he’d make his Octagon return on that date.

However, McGregor also mentioned a Dublin location, and the UFC is holding their UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Las Vegas that day. McGregor is 0-1 in his professional boxing career, dropping a 10th round TKO to Floyd Mayweather in 2017. He seems to have sparked a rivalry with Keeler, who comes off of a WBO European title win in March.

McGregor has not had a win in combat sports in over 1,000 days, his last being a knockout win over Eddie Alvarez in 2016. He has since suffered defeats to Mayweather, and a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov last October. McGregor would obviously need the permission of the UFC and president Dana White to participate in such a contest.

It remains to be seen if these reports prove to be accurate, and if McGregor will truly get the UFC’s blessing to fight Keeler.

Do you think McGregor will participate in another boxing fight before he competes in MMA again? And will the UFC grant McGregor permission to box again?

Conor McGregor needs a fight, and Justin Gaethje is ready to be the man to step in and welcome the Irishman back to the Octagon.

McGregor noted that he was close to returning against Gaethje this summer. However, after injuring his hand, those plans were scrapped. “The Highlight” has looked magnificent as of late inside the Octagon and has made it clear he wants to fight the winner of a presumed Khabib Nurmagomedov-Tony Ferguson fight, or McGregor.

“The Notorious” shook up the mixed martial arts (MMA) world recently when he shared a cryptic Tweet about his UFC return. Gaethje responded to it with a DM he sent to McGregor on Instagram, asking the Irishman to fight him in Ireland.

Gaethje comes off a first-round finish over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. He has emerged as a top contender at 155 pounds with his current win streak. As for McGregor, he hasn’t won a fight in the UFC since 2017. His last fight resulted in a submission loss to Nurmagomedov in October of last year, failing to recapture the 155-pound title he never lost. With Tony Ferguson clearly the next deserving fighter of a lightweight title shot, a fight between McGregor and Gaethje makes all the sense in the world.

What do you think about Gaethje sharing his DM sent to McGregor?

Ben Askren is one of the more active members of the mixed martial arts (MMA) community on social media.

He recently sparked a brief back-and-forth with former UFC dual-weight champion Conor McGregor. McGregor is teasing a return to Octagon action very soon. However, speaking on “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show” today (Mon. September 16, 2019), “Funky” told the Irishman it’s time for him to shut up and fight.

“That’s what I do on social media, I poke people,” Askren said. “It’s one of those nonsense – I think he probably spends a large portion of his day drinking, and so, a lot of his responses are kind of shenanigans, nonsensical, they don’t make a whole lot of sense. It was just like, I was getting annoyed – and listen, people in my mentions, they think I don’t get to have an opinion because I’m a fighter or something.

I get to have an opinion, I do have an opinion, my opinion is heard by a lot of people because I have a large Twitter following. And so, I enjoy the sport of mixed martial arts, not only as a coach, not only as an athlete, but I enjoy watching it, following it, and doing that kind of stuff. So I was getting annoyed by the fact that Conor keeps kind of saying, “Oh, I won’t fight you,” and then Dustin – the Dustin fight, that’s probably a great fight for him. Dustin has a lot of hype, he just came off a world title shot.

If there’s a fight that’s going to get Conor back in it, boom, that’s it. I don’t think they’re gonna make Khabib-Conor. I just don’t think it’s gonna happen. Nate Diaz is tied up. So who are Conor’s other options? Obviously Justin Gaethje, but if you’re looking at Conor – sh*t I’d rather fight Dustin Poirier before I fight Justin Gaethje if you’re Conor.”

Askren says McGregor can Tweet about whatever he wants, just not about fighting or saying he’s too good to fight a certain fighter, without having competed in a lengthy amount of time.

“I get to have an opinion. I like MMA, if I want to have an opinion, I get to have an opinion, and my opinion is, a Dustin Poirier fight is a good option for Conor, Conor should shut up, stop trying to act too good for it – take the fight, take a fight, take any fight, we don’t care,” Askren said.

“We just want to hear you shut up on social media and actually take a fight. I mean, give me a damn break. It’s been a year? More than a year? Before that, another year. It’s like, come on man. Get in there and shut up. No more Tweets lets fight already. Conor can Tweet. He just can’t Tweet about fighting anyone without fighting, or saying he’s too good for fighting anyone without hopping in there. So he can Tweet about whatever he wants. Just not about saying, “I’m tough I’m gonna fight,” unless you actually fight.”

Askren is currently slated to take on Demian Maia in Singapore on October 26. After suffering the fastest knockout in UFC history – a five-second flying knee knockout to Jorge Masvidal – and the first defeat of his MMA career, Askren hopes to bounce back with a win over Maia. It’ll be very much a grappling festivity, as Maia is one of the best jiu-jitsu practitioners MMA has ever seen.

As for McGregor, it remains unknown what is next for the Irishman, with rumblings of a fight with Dustin Poirier or Justin Gaethje making the rounds.

What do you think about Askren’s comments towards McGregor?
