Heavyweight Contender Predicts Stipe Miocic Will Finish Daniel Cormier

One heavyweight contender is quite confident that Stipe Miocic will stop Daniel Cormier:

Following a brutal stoppage victory over Alistair Overeem at UFC 225 in Chicago earlier this month, Curtis Blaydes has put himself dangerously close to earning a heavyweight title shot.

He’ll have to wait a bit, however, as champion Stipe Miocic is scheduled to defend his title against light heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier in the main event of July 7’s UFC 226 from Las Vegas.

In regards to that fight, Blaydes is predicting a stoppage victory for Miocic:

“I know that ‘DC’ is a good wrestler, but Stipe is a pretty good wrestler himself,” Blaydes told BJPenn.com. “I think he’s got a lot more advantages. I think he gets the finish — but probably into the fourth round, maybe fifth.”

Regardless of the outcome, however, Blaydes isn’t concerned with who comes out on top, as he feels both men present various challenges to him. And following that fight, the 27-year-old is hoping that the UFC will give him what he feels is a well-deserved shot at gold:

“They’re both challenges, and I don’t think either one of them is easier or harder than the other,” he said. “They both have pretty good stand up, they’re pretty good wrestlers. [My] only advantage would be I have a weight advantage over them, and probably a reach advantage also. I was thinking about New Years Eve, in Vegas. I think I deserve to be the champion.”

Prior to his victory over Overeem, Blaydes had won three consecutive fights over the likes of Daniel Omielanczuk, Aleksei Oleinik, and Mark Hunt.

In addition to Miocic vs. Cormier, UFC 226 will also play host to a featherweight title fight between champion Max Holloway and surging contender Brian Ortega.

The UFC rankings have been officially updated after last weekend’s (Sat., June 9, 2018) UFC 225 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and rising heavyweight star Curtis Blaydes has arrived as the biggest beneficiary.

‘Razor’ rose two spots to No. 2 for his devastating third-round TKO victory over former K-1, Strikeforce, and DREAM champion Alistair Overeem in the featured fight on the UFC 225 preliminary card. For the loss, Overeem fell from No. 2 to No. 4.

There were some small moves on the pound-for-pound list as well, with UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic overtaking the No. 2 pound-for-pound spot from Georges St-Pierre, while middleweight champ Robert Whittaker rose two spots to No. 11, pushing Tony Ferguson and Amanda Nunes down one spot apiece to Nos. 12 and 13, respectively.

The final significant movement came at 125 pounds, where rising potential title challenger Sergio Pettis rose three spots to the No. 2 spot himself after his close decision win over former title challenger Joseph Benavidez on the Fight Pass preliminary card of UFC 225, while ‘Joe B’ fell three spots to No. 4 following the loss.

Khabib Reveals Who Could Potentially Beat Curtis Blaydes

Do you agree with Khabib’s theory?

The post Khabib Reveals Who Could Potentially Beat Curtis Blaydes appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Rising heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes extended his winning streak to four this past Saturday (June 9, 2018) at UFC 225, scoring a brutal stoppage victory over veteran Alistair Overeem.

Following the bout, Blaydes called for a title shot, but it’s also been reported that he suffered a few injuries in the contest, making a timetable for his return a bit cloudy.

Regardless of if he receives a title shot next or not, Blaydes has continued to gain recognition. In fact, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov feels as if the 27-year-old will one day be a champion:

“I think Blaydes can become UFC champion,” Khabib told documentary producer Will Harris of Anatomy of a Fighter. “He has very good wrestling, he’s young, he’s strong, he’s hungry, he has different motivation. I think he’s the new blood in the UFC’s heavyweight division.”

Blaydes, who holds a professional record of 10-1-1, has given various fighters problems with his fighting style and Nurmagomedov believes this will carry on as Blaydes continues to earn big fights. “The Eagle”, however, also named one combatant who he feels is capable of stopping Blaydes’ run:

“I think only one guy can beat him. I think Daniel Cormier; he can beat him,” he said. “Other guys, even Stipe Miocic, I think for Stipe, he’s a bad matchup, because he pressures all the time, (he has) very good wrestling.”

“But, we’ll see. He’s the new blood,” Khabib said of Blaydes. “We have to wait (until after) July 7th (UFC 226). I think he deserves a title shot, more than everybody.”

Cormier, a teammate of Nurmagomedov’s and the current 205-pound champion, will indeed move up in weight to challenge heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic in the main event of July 7’s UFC 226 from Las Vegas, Nevada.
