Perennial UFC welterweight contender, Neil Magny is back to winning ways — and can now officially call himself the most winningest fighting in the history of the weight class, surpassing former undisputed champion, Georges St-Pierre with tonight’s co main event D’Arce choke win against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 64.
Magny, who entered tonight’s fight against Californian striker, Rodriguez grasping a stunning 19 welterweight wins in his UFC tenure — chalked up win number 20 tonight, and surpassed St-Pierre subsequently, as the most winningest welterweight in the history of the weight class in the UFC.
Struggling with the heavy hands of Rodriguez throughout their three round co-main event, Magny managed to latch onto the veteran’s neck at the fence in the third round — initially threatening with an anaconda choke.
Snapping Rodriguez to the mat and switching his grip, Magny settled for a D’Arce choke, snatching up the leg and forcing the submission in the final frame.

Daniel Rodriguez has dropped out of his matchup against Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 212, due to an injury.
Rodriguez and Magny were slated to fight on Oct. 15 at the UFC Apex, but announced via social media that he will not be able to fight. He announced his decision to drop out on his Instagram story, as he was not fully healed from an injury he suffered to Li Jingliang in their bout at UFC 279.
“Got a little bit of bad news,” Rodriguez said in his post. “Woke up this morning, elbow f*cking throbbing. I got this in the last fight and it kind of spread. So it looks like I’m out of the fight.” (Transcribed by MMAJunkie)
Daniel Rodriguez has won all four of his last fights
‘D-Rod’ has been very good since his start in the UFC. He has a record of 6-1 in the UFC, while winning each of his last four fights. His most impressive win had to be when he put a three-round beatdown over Kevin Lee, on short notice. His last fight against Jingliang was a really close bout and most fans had thought Jingliang did enough to get the win. Rodriguez took home the win via split decision.
It is unclear whether the UFC will replace Rodriguez at this time. They may delay the fight and put it on a card in November, but there hasn’t been an official announcement just yet.
Magny on the other hand had his two-fight win streak broken, when he lost to Shavkat Rakhmonov back in June. He lost that fight via submission, as he was choked out with a guillotine. It seems as if Many wouldn’t mind the fight being rebooked, as he was looking forward to matching up with Rodriguez.

UFC veteran Neil Magny has made a career of late notice fights but even he was surprised when the UFC scheduled him to fight Daniel Rodriguez.
In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Magny explained his confusion.
“I went to bed Wednesday night without a fight, woke up Thursday with every media outlet saying I was fighting Daniel Rodriguez.”
The process for booking this fight at UFC Grasso vs Araujo on October 15th was extremely complicated, Magny had two initial opponents pull out before there were rumors of a Kevin Holland fight. Eventually, the UFC offered him Rodriguez, a fighter who is coming off a controversial spit-decision win over Jingliang Li less than a month ago.
Magny spoke about his future opponent in detail:
“He’s a very good southpaw boxer, southpaws tend to give a lot of guys difficulties... He’s going to have a chip on his shoulder, he’s going to be thinking I have to go out there and prove to the world that I did win my last fight.”
Neil Magny on learning from the Shavkat Rakhmonov loss
Magny’s last fight was a stoppage loss to the undefeated up-and-coming prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov, who has finished every opponent he has faced.
“Everyone is always looking for a reason to rule you out, oh yeah that guy is history now. It’s up to me to go out there and show everyone that I am still that dude.”
Magny also spoke about taking on too much as a fighter and how he has changed that now:
“I had to clear my plate, I have so many things outside of fighting it can become distracting. I’m worried about two things now being the best possible father and fighter.”
In a perfect situation for Magny, should he beat Daniel Rodriguez, he wants to call out Gilburt Burns and fight him in his native country of Brazil.
Burns has still not fought since his fight of the year contender against Khamzat Chimaev where he made the undefeated prospect seem human.
