Diego Sanchez Says ‘Cowboy’ Fight Is ‘Big Possibility’ For This Year

This would be an epic brawl!

Longtime UFC veteran Diego Sanchez may have a fight this weekend at UFC 228, but that’s not the only thing dominating his mind at the moment.

Recently, some in-house beef has ensued at Sanchez’s longtime gym, Jackson-Wink MMA. Fellow Jackson-Wink veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone took to Joe Rogan’s podcast to voice his grievances with the team.

Most of the issues came after the gym welcomed in “Platinum” Mike Perry, who will be fighting “Cowboy” in November. Cerrone unloaded on gym co-owner Mike Winkeljohn for apparently being more money-driven above all else.

Sanchez was irked by Cerrone’s remarks, but the most unsettling thing to Sanchez was “Cowboy’s” accusations towards wrestling coach Chad Smith. Cerrone suggested Smith sold ******** to teenagers before joining the team.

After hearing these comments, Sanchez would love to get into the cage with “Cowboy” to defend his gym’s honor, and believes it can happen before the end of the year (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“It hurt to see ‘Cowboy’ trashing these guys that work so hard, and they put in the time in the sport,” Sanchez said.

“Gyms go through ups, gyms go through downs. It is a business. It’s about money. Winkeljohn has $40,000 a month he pays on overhead on our facility.

“So, there are decisions that have to be made. I was just more emotional because ‘Cowboy’ trash talked a really good man, my wrestling coach Chad Smith. He’s a really good dude.

“He never sold no ******** to no kids. And he’s lucky – ‘Cowboy’ is lucky that Chad is such a good dude, or else he would be suing him for defamation of character right now.”

Sanchez will take on Craig White at UFC 228 in Dallas, Texas this weekend (Sat. September 8, 2018). The fight will headline the UFC Fight Pass exclusive preliminary card, which will run five fights-long.

Earlier this week longtime UFC veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone took to Joe Rogan’s podcast to sound off on some beef with his gym, Jackson-Wink MMA. Apparently the gym sided with training newcomer Mike Perry for his fight against Cowboy, who they told to go train at his own BMF Ranch. Cerrone pointed to Mike Winkeljohn […]

Mike Perry Claims ‘Cowboy’ Tried To Prevent His Jackson-Wink Move

It looks like “Cowboy” never wanted “Platinum” at Jackson-Wink.

Mike Perry claims that his Jackson-Wink MMA teammate Donald Cerrone tried to prevent him from joining the gym.

Perry and “Cowboy” will meet at UFC Fight Night 139 on November 10th. The action goes down inside the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Not only will it be teammate vs. teammate in Denver, but it will also be coach vs. coach.

“Platinum” tells BJ Penn Radio that Greg Jackson will be in Cerrone’s corner, while Mike Winkeljohn is in his (quotes via MMA Mania):

“Greg Jackson’s gonna be in his corner. I’ll have [Mike] Winkeljohn and coach Frank and I believe my coach from Florida, Julian Williams. And…he (Cerrone) doesn’t come in this gym,” Perry said.

Perry says Cerrone hasn’t been at the gym much since his arrival. He believes “Cowboy” will be talking trash about the team during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast:

“He did last time I was here…like twice the whole two months I was here, twice. And ya know, he stays at his ranch and works out there.

“But now, I guess he’s going on [the] Joe Rogan [Experience podcast] tomorrow and he might say some things about the gym and Winkeljohn…try to talk some trash,” he added.

Perry speculates that Cerrone could be gearing up for a move back to Denver full-time. He believes “Cowboy” is looking for an excuse to move because people aren’t “kissing his ***” anymore at Jackson-Wink:

“I think he’s movin’ back to Denver. And like, none of this going on is the reason why. Like, he was just looking for a reason to act like it was something to push him to move over there.

“I don’t know him that well, but that’s the way it sounds to me. If he’s goin’ to Denver now, cause he’s wanted to for some time…and he’s goin’ ahead and making that move because he ain’t got a bunch of people kissing his *** over here no more.”

He also revealed that he heard a rumor that Cerrone physically went to the gym and tried to prevent Perry from moving to Jackson-Wink:

“I haven’t seen it first hand (the tension brewing). But I heard that he physically came here and asked them not to train me.

“For them not to allow me to come into the gym and to show him some respect even though…he hasn’t done anything for this gym in quite some time.”

Jorge Masvidal Responds To Leon Edwards’ UFC Singapore Callout

This fight makes sense for both talented welterweights.

Jorge Masvidal is ready to get back into the Octagon.

“Gamebred” is on a two-fight losing skid after back-to-back decision losses against Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson. Despite his recent struggles, Masvidal is still one of the better known fighters in the UFC’s 170-pound division.

Yesterday morning (Sat. June 23, 2018) rising prospect Leon Edwards picked up the biggest win of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career when he defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone via unanimous decision. Shortly after the victory, Edwards called out Masvidal to a future Octagon meeting.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Masvidal seems more than willing to share the cage with the Englishman next:

“(Expletive) people are always calling me out,” Masvidal said. “I don’t give two (expletive) who calls me out. I just want a big fight. If Leon is the biggest fight that I can get my hands on, meaning the biggest name and biggest ranking, then that’s who it is.”

Masvidal would much rather take on a top-10 opponent next, but everyone is either matched up or not ready to fight yet. If Edwards is the fight presently available to Masvidal then he’s ready to take it:

“It doesn’t really matter, because everybody seems to be matched up and locked up. So maybe it’s Leon Edwards, and maybe it’s not. It depends on the timing. The bigger the names, the better,” Masvidal said.

“At this stage in my career, I only want top-10 guys, or the closest thing to get me to the title. I don’t think Leon Edwards is quite there, but it’s a fight, and it’s competition. The guy’s obviously skilled and on a big win streak, so it would be awesome to get the fight.

“I don’t see (Neil) Magny, No. 7 or whatever the (expletive) (expletive) ranking he has behind him, I don’t see him stepping in any time soon, so I’m not going to keep waiting for fantasy matchups that are never going to happen. So if it’s Leon Edwards, Leon Edwards it is.”

Masvidal is ready to fight as soon as September. He was recently disappointed after receiving news that several fighters didn’t want to fight. A call from the UFC offering him an opponent would be a nice change:

“I won’t even mention their names in this interview, because I don’t want to give them any type of attention or name recognition,” Masvidal said. “But there were a couple of guys that I asked for, and the UFC said, ‘Hell, no. We can’t give you those guys. You’re going to murder those guys.’

“(Darren) Till is waiting for a title shot. Rafael dos Anjos might be fighting (Kamaru) Usman, and Usman thinks he deserves a title shot, as well. Magny’s just a (expletive). (Demian) Maia doesn’t seem like he wants to fight anymore; I was trying to get a rematch with him or (Stephen) Thompson, and Thompson’s hurt.

“Santiago Ponzinibbio’s also hurt, but he’s also my teammate, so I’m not trying to fight the guy. All the other top-10 guys are locked up. So whoever I can get my hands on, let’s go.”
