Jose Aldo has made it clear that he’s not happy with the UFC. In fact, the former longtime featherweight champion, who’s outraged that he wasn’t granted a rematch with Conor McGregor after winning the interim title last July, recently said that he no longer has interest in fighting and that he hopes the promotion releases him from his contract.

UFC President Dana White recently gave his thoughts on the situation:

“Listen, I can’t make anybody fight anybody. I can do the best I can to put together fights and make them happen. Jose Aldo and I will get together probably next week and we’ll talk about this,” White told “UFC Tonight” on Wednesday.

“I think he’s being a little ridiculous about this.”

Aldo has been hell bent on getting another shot at McGregor ever since the Irishman brutally knocked him out cold at December 2015’s UFC 194 from Las Vegas, but McGregor has instead venture out of the division for big money fights.

White, however, said that there are other intriguing fights for Aldo to take in the featherweight division:

“I’ll get him a fight. I’ll get him a fight all day long,” White said. “If you look at that division, it’s stacked. (Max) Holloway is ready, he wants to fight. Anthony Pettis is in that division now. There’s a lot of talented guys there that he can fight.

“I can’t make Conor McGregor fight anybody. Obviously everybody wants the fight. I’m waiting for Joanna Jedrzejczyk to call out Conor McGregor next. Everybody wants to fight Conor.”

Who’s side are you on here? Does Aldo have a right to feel the way he does?

After once again not being granted a rematch with featherweight champion Conor McGregor, former longtime champion and current interim title holder Jose Aldo asked to be released from the UFC, while also expressing his interest in retiring.

It looks as if Aldo, who most recently beat Frankie Edgar at July’s UFC 200, is sticking to his guns. “Scarface” recently told MMAFighting that he has a meeting scheduled with the UFC, although he said that he doesn’t expect anything to change:

“I’m waiting. That’s the situation now,” Aldo said. “We have a meeting scheduled to solve everything, but everything has been said already. We will see what happens in this meeting. I can talk more when I return.”

“(Dana White) can offer me anything,” Aldo said. “I started to get unmotivated back then, when I lost the belt. I was the champion for so long I had the right to get an immediate rematch and they didn’t give it to me, and I wanted to walk in a different direction but ‘Dede’ (Pederneiras) made me fight again. I went there, fought and won, and again (the rematch) didn’t come. I have no desire to fight again. I don’t have any excitement to fight anymore. I have other projects in my life. I wanted to retire as champion and I’m the champion today. I want to follow another path.”

While Aldo admitted that he doesn’t necessarily want to retire, he confirmed that he no longer has interest in fighting. In fact, the Brazilian said that it would be ‘great’ if he was released from his contract, and if he isn’t, well than he’ll just throw his next fight:

“I sat down with ‘Dede’ this week and talked. He tried to change my mind a little bit, but there’s no way. I’m very decided what I want,” Aldo said. “We’re going to this meeting and see what happens. ‘Dede’ knows what he wants. It’s not like I want to retire, I’m too young and still have a lot left, but I have no desire to fight. And I have no interest in going to another organization. I won’t leave the biggest league to fight in a small one. I’m a big team and I want to be at the biggest league. If I’m not in the UFC, I’m not fighting anywhere else.”

“If they release me, that would be great, but if not, what can we do? I have other projects and that depends on this meeting we’re having with them,” he continued. “If I want to retire, no contract can stop me. I can go there and say (I’m retired) and they can’t force me to fight. A lawyer already looked at the contract, but I don’t want to fight (the UFC in court). I don’t want anything.

“Ah, you want me to fight MMA again? So I’ll get in there and tap right away, and the fight is over. I’d do it quickly. What I really want is other things for my life.”

It’s almost surreal to here Aldo, a man who not too long ago was the only fighter in the history of the promotion to ever wear 145-pound gold, make these comments, but he has nonetheless.

What do you expect to come out of this situation?

Nick Diaz Blasts Conor McGregor: You Ain’t Ever Going To Be The Best

Reigning UFC featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor has put together quite the impressive run throughout his Octagon tenure thus far with his only loss in nine bouts coming via submission to Nate Diaz last March. The “Notorious” one avenged that loss against his bitter rival via majority decision at August 20’s UFC 202. Aside from that loss, McGregor has only lost two other times in his professional career, both coming on the Irish regional circuit years ago.

Nick Diaz, however, isn’t too impressed with McGregor’s resume, saying that he lost to two ‘guineas’. The elder Diaz brother added that McGregor ‘ain’t ever going to be the best’:

“He’s not [great], though,” Diaz said in a recent video interview. “On paper, he’s not. Who are the 145-pound fighters who he beat up? Nobody good, in my opinion. Just a lot of commercials and advertising. How many blackbelts has he tapped out? When he was talking shit back-and-forth about fighting Floyd Mayweather … like, you have already lost to two guys who are not on a legitimate level.

“That just tells me, look, you ain’t ever going to be the best,” he continued. “You already lost to two fucking guineas. I ain’t ever losing to somebody who lost to some fucking little Irish land guineas. That’s fact, that’s on paper. And on gym, you can see what kind of work he has put in. He ain’t working with nobody — he ain’t working with no black belts. Has no legitimate trainer.”

These claims are similar to the ones Nate made prior to UFC 196, and it seems as if the brothers are on the same page regarding the Irish champion, who’s set to challenge lightweight titleholder Eddie Alvarez at November 12’s UFC 205 from New York.

Nick, on the other hand, hasn’t competed since January 2015, and recently finished serving out an 18 month suspension handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) due to a failed drug test. He has hinted at a potential return to action in the future.

ESPN’s Brett Okamota detailed the hearing via his official Twitter account:

After Diaz got up and left the press conference with his team, the two sides exchanged words before bottles and cans began to fly across the room. The Stockton native has yet to receive a punishment from the commission.

An interesting thing to note is that McGregor was present at the hearing via phone after a rumor surfaced earlier today that he had been ‘knocked out cold’ during a sparring session leading up to his November 12, 2016 lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez.

Anthony Pettis ‘Ready To Go’ For Big Fight With Jose Aldo

Many fighters have criticized featherweight champion Conor McGregor for taking fights outside of his division instead of defending his title, but former lightweight champion turned featherweight contender Anthony “Showtime” Pettis isn’t bothered by it. In fact, “Showtime” attempted to do the same when he was sporting 155-pound gold:

“I was trying to do that when I was champ. I called out Jose Aldo right after I won the belt at lightweight, it was supposed to happen, it didn’t happen for reasons,” Pettis said on a recent appearance on “UFC Tonight”.

“I think right now, Conor he’s doing his thing. He’s a guy that’s winning fights, he’s knocking guys out, he’s fighting guys like Nate Diaz but he’s winning fights, what can you say.”

Aldo, on the other hand, isn’t too pleased with the way McGregor is conducting his business. After being knocked out by the Irishman in just 13 seconds last December, “Scarface” bounced back with a dominant victory over Frankie Edgar last July to become the interim 145-pound champion. With the win, Aldo thought that he had been guaranteed the next shot at McGregor, but the “Notorious” one recently signed on to fight lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at November 12’s UFC 205.

In the wake of the news, Aldo requested his release from the UFC, and said that he was considering retirement. With McGregor having his hands full, Pettis said that he’s ‘ready to go’ for a ‘big’ fight with Aldo, a fight that was scheduled to take place years ago, but ultimately fell through:

“If Jose Aldo wants it, I’m ready to go. I think he’s more frustrated than actually trying to retire. I don’t think he’s going to retire where he’s at right now. He obviously wants that (Conor) fight back, Conor’s busy, I’m there,” said Pettis.

“I think that’s the fight that makes sense for him. I know he wants to sell pay-per-views and I think my name with his name makes a big fight.”

Pettis recently made his 145-pound debut with an impressive win over Charles Oliveira, landing him at No. 6 in the division. “Showtime” undoubtedly deserves a big fight, and a scrap with Aldo would be highly exciting, although it’d be difficult to leapfrog No. 3-ranked Max Holloway, a man on a nine fight win streak.

If Aldo sticks around, who should he face next?

Dana White ‘Won’t Do Three’ With McGregor-Diaz

After he gained revenge on bitter rival Nate Diaz in their rematch at UFC 202 on August 20, 2016, featherweight champion Conor McGregor said the two would likely fight for a third time down the road.

But UFC President Dana White said that he was moving away from the rivalry for the time being, and it appears he’s sticking to it, at least for now. Recently speaking on the topic, White once again showed little interest in a third bout between the two stars:

“You can’t do three,” White told Hot 97 in New York. “Here’s the thing, Conor McGregor is this guy where if a fight falls out, this guy will step up. He doesn’t give a (expletive). He’s legitimately that guy. I’ve been on the phone and I’ve stood in the living room many times and looked guys in the face when their opponent pulls out, nobody faces that adversity the way that Conor McGregor does.

“It’s awesome and it makes me respect him very much.”

The two first met at UFC 196 last March in an instant classic that saw Diaz score an emphatic second-round submission victory. The rematch then turned out to be a five-round war in which each fighter had his moments. The “Notorious” one, however, took home a close majority decision victory.

From a business perspective, the rivalry is a lucrative one to say the least, as UFC 202 reportedly broke the all-time pay-per-view (PPV) record that was set by UFC 196. White, however, says a third contest ‘doesn’t make sense’:

“(Conor) ends up saying ‘let’s do this Nate Diaz thing’ and dude he’s two weight classes heavier than you and he doesn’t care. So we do the fight,” White explained. “Conor has to try to weigh 168 when they’re weighing in at 170. The night of the fight, Diaz comes in at 190. Now Conor McGregor is a 45, 55 pound guy and if you look at the wars he’s had with Diaz, you can only have so many of those wars in your career. It doesn’t make sense.

“That’s why we have weight classes. It ended up being an amazing fight, but you don’t want to keep doing that.”

Instead, McGregor will next challenge lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in the main event of November 12’s UFC 205 from New York. Despite this being a blockbuster fight, the UFC has received a bit of criticism for allowing McGregor to call his shots so to say, as the Irishman has yet to defend his featherweight strap that he won last December.
Continuing on, White explained why McGregor gets this ‘special’ treatment:

“That’s why I give this guy way more rope than I give anybody else. Conor can say whatever the hell he wants to, the guy steps up on four days notice, he can say whatever he wants,” White said.

“We’re in the fight game, who really wants to fight? That dude wants to fight.”

Do you approve of McGregor facing Alvarez, and would you like to see him and Diaz run it back one more time in the future?
