Stipe Miocic is still the UFC heavyweight champion of the world, and he’s here to remind you in case you forgot.

With all the attention currently placed on heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou, Miocic took to Twitter to address the Cameroonian’s campaign for a title shot, and did so in classic Stipe fashion:

Ngannou took to opportunity after knocking out Alistair Overeem in the first round to make his case for a shot at Miocic’s belt. Ngannou’s performance was certainly emphatic enough to catch the champ’s attention, as the victory pushes Ngannou to an impressive 11-1 record.

The hulking Cameroonian is undefeated in the UFC and has now taken out top contenders in Overeem and Andrei Arlovski, both with punches and both under two minutes of round one.

Meanwhile, Miocic has enjoyed his championship status ever since knocking g out former champ Fabricio Werdum back at UFC 198, and has defended the belt twice since then, with first round stoppages over Overeem and Junior Dos Santos. Both Ngannou And Miocic seem to be running full-force right in to one another and appear destined to fight each other in the near future.

Miocic most recently fought in May, meaning the timing of a title fight against Ngannou makes the most sense, and with no other conceivable heavyweight contender worthy or available at the moment, dont be surprised when this fight is announced.

Who do you seeing winning between Miocic and Ngannou? Is the champion the man to stop Ngannou’s momentum and hand him his first UFC loss?

After destroying Cain Velasquez at UFC 188 to become the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum was being talked about as possibly the greatest heavyweight of all-time. His title reign quickly came crashing down, however, as he was brutally knocked out by current champion Stipe Miocic in his first title defense at UFC 198 last May.

Werdum will attempt to bounce back in the co-main event of UFC 203, an event headlined by Miocic defending his strap against Alistair Overeem, tomorrow night (September 10, 2016) when he takes on Travis Browne. “Vai Cavalo” feels as if he should’ve received an immediate rematch with Miocic, but he knows that tomorrow’s bout is now a must win:

“That’s the goal (to finish Browne),” Werdum told MMA Fighting. “I never saw someone say they want to win by decision. I think everybody wants a knockout or a submission. The speech is always the same. The quicker, the better. One minute, one round, two rounds, that’s better. I can’t think differently.

“I need this victory. It’s important for my goal to fight for the title again. I deserved an immediate rematch since I was coming off six wins in a row, but I knew the UFC wouldn’t give it to me. Winning this fight, I will deserve it. I will do everything I can to put on a spectacular fight to earn another title shot.”

Werdum and Browne have actually faced off once before back in 2014 in a fight that “Vai Cavalo” dominated before earning a title shot. Despite owning a win over “Hapa”, however, the Brazilian isn’t heading into the rematch overconfident:

“I can’t be overconfident in this fight,” he said. “I never entered a fight overconfident. My losses were based on things I did in training, and luck also plays out during the fight. I’m coming off a loss so I can’t be overconfident. I might have a slight advantage because I won the last fight, but it’s nothing big.

“It’s not an easy fight just because I defeated him before,” he said. “I can’t underestimate Travis Browne. He’s also coming off a loss so he wants this win to move forward. I’m sure that a win will put me right into a title fight. That’s not the case for him, but he definitely wants to win.”

Do you see Werdum getting back to his winning ways?

Stipe Miocic Responds To Alistair Overeem: I’m Going To Smash You

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will look to defend his title for the very first time in the main event of September 10’s UFC 203 when he meets legendary veteran Alistair “The Reem” Overeem in his home of Cleveland, Ohio. Miocic won the title last May at UFC 198 when he destroyed former champion Fabricio Werdum in the very first round. Since then, however, Overeem feels as if Miocic has been celebrating and partying too much, recently saying that he was the ‘hungrier’ fighter.

Speaking with Submission Radio earlier this week, Miocic responded to “The Reem”, labeling himself as a ‘savage’, and telling Overeem that he will smash him:

“Yeah, you’ll see a better version of me. I’m gonna go out there and I’m gonna smash and keep this belt for a long time. I mean, he can say whatever he wants, man, whatever he wants to build his confidence up. But, I’ve been training non-stop, I’m great shape, I’m ready to fight. I wish this fight was this weekend. I’m ready to roll, man. You know, whatever. He wants to say he’s the hungrier fighter, but listen man, I’m a savage, bro. I’m ready to go.”

Despite his confidence, Miocic did note Overeem’s accomplishments and recent successes, as the Dutchman has won four straight with three coming by way of finish. At the end of the day, however, Miocic truly feels as if he’s the ringleader at 265-pounds right now:

“Listen, he’s a tough guy, he’s fought the best in the world, he’s a K-1 guy, he’s good on the ground, he’s good all around. Yeah, he’s come back strong and I’ve fought a lot of guys that have had a resurgence and have been fighting better and I put a stop to it real quick. So listen, come UFC 203, I’m walking out with that belt still around my waist. So whatever he wants to do or whatever he wants to think, he ain’t gonna win. It’s gonna be me with my hand raised at the end of the night. I think I’ve fought the who’s who of the heavyweight division. Overeem is just another guy they put in front of me and he’s for me to put down again. I’m gonna be champ for a long time and he’s just another guy front of me.”

Who do you see walking away with heavyweight gold on September 10th?

No. 4-ranked UFC heavyweight Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos recently bounced back with a vintage one sided decision victory over the previously surging Ben Rothwell in the main event of UFC Fight Night 86 last April.

Dos Santos underwent shoulder surgery after the bout that has put him on the sidelines for the immediate future, but he should return within the coming months to a big fight in the suddenly booming heavyweight division.

A new champion was recently crowned in the division as Stipe Miocic knocked out Fabricio Werdum in the main event of May’s UFC 198 to steal the title.

Miocic will next defend his newly acquired strap against long-time veteran Alistair Overeem in the main event of September’s UFC 203.

Dos Santos has done battle with both men, getting the better of Miocic in a five round slug fest back in December 2014, and suffering a brutal knockout loss to Overeem in December 2015.

JDS respects Miocic and feels as if he’ll get by Overeem, but he also feels as if he’ll be the man to take the belt from the Croatian:

“Miocic is a great athlete, he gave me one of the toughest fights of my career, he hits really hard and I think he will hold that belt for a long time, until he meets me again. He lives a great moment and I don’t think he’ll make the same mistakes I made against Overeem, like respecting him too much and giving him too much space.” Dos Santos told Portal do Vale Tudo.

“Cigano” previously expressed interest in fighting Werdum, a man he had knocked out years ago, but the former champion confirms that it wasn’t personal, as he’s simply focused on recapturing the title:

“My will is to fight for the belt. He had the belt so I wanted to fight him, but now he doesn’t have what I want anymore, so he doesn’t matter to me. If the UFC decides I should fight him, I will. I confess I will even like it, it has the potential to be a great fight.”

Will the Brazilian slugger get his chance to reclaim heavyweight gold in the foreseeable future?

Roy Nelson Says Werdum’s Own People Caused Him To Get Knocked Out

Fabricio Werdum had the opportunity of a lifetime in the main event of last weekend’s (May 14, 2016) UFC 198 from his home of Brazil.

Attempting to make the first defense of his UFC heavyweight title, Werdum faced off with Stipe Miocic in front of forty-thousand plus screaming Brazilian fans. Unfortunately for “Vai Cavalo”, however, he was knocked out by Miocic in the very first round, a stoppage that left the crowd silent.

Fellow heavyweight slugger Roy “Big Country” Nelson feels as if the crowd played a part in Werdum losing his title:

“I think it was the Brazilian crowd of 45,000 people,” Nelson said. “You’re like, ‘Dude, I want to make some things happen. I want to make fireworks.’ And when you do fireworks for the fans, you want to put a show for the fans, you just kind of sometimes get a little over anxious. I know that feeling.” Nelson told MMAFighting.com.

Nelson, while not taking anything away from Miocic, further criticized Werdum, saying that the Brazilian’s strategy wasn’t so ‘bright’:

“I was impressed that he knocked Werdum out because I didn’t see that coming, but at the same time, when you got a 240-pound man running at you, and you just stick your hand out, you’re definitely going to hurt somebody.

“No, I don’t think it was a lucky punch. I just think Werdum wasn’t so bright because he was just very like, ‘just stand there, man. Just fight.’ Nelson said. “He just ran at him.”

Do you agree with “Big Country’s” assessment?

It’s often said in mixed martial arts that although getting to the top of the food chain is difficult, staying on top is simply that much harder.

We have seen that to be true time and time again, and most clearly within the UFC’s heavyweight division, a division in which a champion has never defended his title more than twice.

In fact, the title once again changed hands this past weekend (May 14, 2016) for the second time in less than 12 months. Stipe Miocic seized the opportunity of a lifetime in his main event bout with Fabricio Werdum in Brazil at UFC 198, finishing “Vai Cavalo” with a clean right hand in the first round to become the new titleholder.

Now the king of the mountain, the Croatian-American will be faced with the daunting task of keeping a shiny gold belt strapped around his waist in the unforgiving waters of the heavyweight division.

But he may be up to the task. He’s not exactly young at 33 years old, yet that does make him surprisingly spry in the quickly aging heavyweight landscape, and he is clearly defining a new breed of heavyweight fighter by himself.

Let’s take a look at six reasons why Miocic may defy the odds and continue to wreak havoc on the heavyweight class for more than just two title defenses….
