Rafael Fiziev suffered an unfortunate knee injury in the second round of his UFC Vegas 79 main event with Mateusz Gamrot.
The opening round went pretty much how fight fans expected, with Rafael Fiziev attempting to land heavy shots while Gamrot worked to get things to the ground. Neither fighter was able to impose their will in the first five minutes, but Fiziev managed to land some solid strikes whilst avoiding the takedown attempts of Gamrot which likely earned him the round.
Tragically, the second round would bring an anti-climactic end to the bout when Fiziev threw a right kick near the two-minute mark. ‘Ataman’ appeared to pop his left knee in the process which immediately sent him crashing to the canvas and grimacing in pain. Gamrot moved in, but the referee quickly recognized that something was wrong and called a stop to the bout less than halfway through the round.
Official Results: Mateusz Gamrot def. Rafael Fiziev via TKO (injury) at 2:03 of Round 2.

Bryce Mitchell got back into the win column with a dominant three-round performance against Dan Ige at UFC Vegas 79.
Dan Ige quickly appeared to have an advantage in striking, landing some solid strikes that eventually encouraged Mitchell to move in for his first takedown attempt. Ige defended successfully and landed a left that cut Mitchell open under his right eye. Determined to get things to the ground, Mitchell landed a double leg in the final minute and immediately landed in the mount. ‘Thug Nasty’ scored some solid ground and pound strikes just as the opening round came to a close.
Ige came out swinging in the second, landing a nasty right hand right out the gate. Bryce Mitchell’s right eye looks significantly worse at this point, prompting the referee to pause the action and call in the ringside physician. The bout was allowed to resume, but the damage is notably significant.
Upon the restart, Mitchell attempted another quick takedown, but Ige reversed and landed on top before making his way back up. With two minutes to go, Mitchell caught Ige coming in and immediately landed a takedown. Mitchell moved directly into mount prompting Ige to give up his back in an attempt to get back up. With Mitchell threatening a rear-naked choke, Ige transitioned to his back once again and found himself in an arm triangle. ’50k’ was able to defend against the submission attempt and make it out of the round.
The final round saw Mitchell aggressively attempt to take Ige to the ground. As a result, Ige was unable to mount any offense guaranteeing ‘Thug Nasty’ would take the third round on the scorecards. But did he take the fight?
Official Result: Bryce Mitchell def. Dan Ige via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

Marina Rodriguez delivered a stunning display of violence en route to a second-round TKO against the ‘Karate Hottie’ at UFC Vegas 79.

With two minutes to go, Waterson-Gomez was a bloody mess after enduring a barrage of vicious knees and elbows from Rodriguez. To her credit, Waterson-Gomez never once stopped fighting back and miraculously managed to make it out of the first round.

Both fighters came out swinging from the get-go, but it was Means who scored the early upper hand after landing a perfectly timed left knee while pressed against the fence. The blow sent Fialho crashing to the canvas. Means pounced and delivered some big strikes on the ground, but Fialho was able to recover and work his way back up to finish the round.
While Means appeared to be in control for a majority of the opening round, things were a bit more even in the second with both men finding their opponents’ chin. However, it was clear that Fialho was beginning to slow down after eating a plethora of body shots from Means in the first 10 minutes.
Coming out for the third, Fialho had little left in the tank and Means took advantage, landing a big 1-2 that backed Fialho against the fence. Once he had his opponent backed up, Means teed off, landing a flurry that put Fialho on the canvas, forcing the referee to step in and call for the stoppage.
Official Results: Tim Means def. Andre Fialho via TKO (strikes) at 1:15 of Round 3.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is not giving up hope when it comes to a potential superfight with Octagon icon Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.
For years, it looked like Jon Jones and ‘The Predator’ were on a collision course under the UFC banner. Unfortunately, the bout never came to fruition, resulting in Ngannou walking away from the promotion in search of greener pastures. In his absence, ‘Bones’ found his way back to the Octagon and captured the vacant heavyweight title in decisive fashion at UFC 285 in March.
With Jones’ hitch firmly tied to the UFC and Francis Ngannou now signed with the Professional Fighters League in a ground-breaking deal, all hope appeared to be lost when it came to seeing the two heavyweight behemoths locking up with one another.
Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, Ngannou believes that there is still a chance the two fighters could come together for what would be the biggest fight in heavyweight MMA history.
“I don’t know. Maybe he’ll be a special fight, a special belt or something?” Ngannou said regarding a potential fight with Jones during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. “Maybe not like a UFC belt. To be honest, I don’t worry about the title. The title is not what I worry about. I worry about that fight, that challenge. I wouldn’t care if it was a fight without a title. In my [mind], I don’t need a UFC title. That fight is bigger than a title. The fight is bigger than a title.”
Ngannou and Jones Are Gearing Up for Their Next Big Challenges
Currently, both men are gearing up for their highly anticipated returns. First, Ngannou will step inside the squared circle as the Cameroonian makes his pro boxing debut against reigning WBC heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury. The two men will meet in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh on October 28.
Weeks later, Jon Jones will head to the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, for a showdown with the general consensus heavyweight GOAT, Stipe Miocic.
What comes next for both men is still entirely up in the air, but if ‘The Predator’ gets his wish, a mega fight with Jon Jones won’t be far off.
“Deep inside me, I still have a little bit of hope (about a Jones fight), even though I know it’s gonna be hard. But, you never know,” Ngannou added (h/t Independent).
