Bellator 170 comes to us this Saturday night (Jan. 21) from The Forum in Inglewood, California. Bellator is rolling out the final pre-fight conference before the event takes place. The conference will be held today (Jan. 19) and it’ll begin at 3 p.m. ET.
The main event of Bellator 170 will feature a grudge match between from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title holder Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” has claimed this will be his final fight.
Welterweights will collide in the co-main event. Former middleweight title challenger Brennan Ward will go to war with former UFC, Strikeforce, EliteXC, and BAMMA veteran Paul Daley. Ward has said he and “Semtex” are one of the few “old-school guys” in mixed martial arts (MMA). If the bout lives up to the hype, we could be looking at an early “Fight of the Year” candidate.
Middleweight action will also be showcased on the main card. Knockout artist Hisaki Kato will welcome Ralek Gracie back to MMA competition. Gracie’s last MMA fight was in May 2010. Kato doesn’t have any particular feeling when it comes to fighting someone from the Gracie family. It should go without saying, but many believe this bout will end in either a knockout or submission.
Bellator 170’s main card has a featherweight contest as well. The two 145-pounders are Georgi Karakhanyan and Emmanuel Sanchez. Karakhanyan is a seasoned veteran who has had 33 professional MMA bouts. Sanchez will do battle for the 17th time in his career. He has won three of his last four bouts and all of them have resulted in a split decision.
Lightweights Derek Campos and Derek Anderson are expected to get the main card started. After losing three of his last four bouts, Campos stunned Melvin Guillard with a second round knockout. He followed that up with a unanimous decision over Djamil Chan. Anderson will also be looking to extend his winning streak to three. He defeated Patricky Freire and Saad Awad in his last two outings.
The main card of Bellator 170 will air at 9 p.m. ET on Spike.

The man who was once known for giving mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Fedor Emelianenko a tough scrap in Strikeforce, is now being charged for sexual misconduct in three separate cases.
Rogers was hit with two counts of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of interfering with someone’s privacy (via Twin Cities). “Da Grimm” is said to be homeless and has been causing disturbances in the downtown St. Paul area where he is located.
Back in November, Rogers groped an employee at the George Latimer Central Library while they were riding the elevator. This is according to a complaint.
Earlier this month, another complaint was made. Rogers was said to have asked a man next to his urinal stall if he wanted to perform sexual acts. When the man declined, Rogers grabbed his rear. The man was able to make a quick exit and contacted police.
While at the Ramsey County Jail, Rogers was involved in another act of sexual conduct but this time he went even further. With his cellmate sleeping, Rogers was caught fondling him. Out of fear, the victim didn’t notify the guards until he was out of his cell.
Rogers claimed the cellmate was lying, but having already been jailed for the prior offenses things aren’t looking good for the former Strikeforce title challenger.
This isn’t the only time “Da Grimm” has found himself in trouble with the law.
Back in Sept. 2011, Rogers pleaded guilty in his domestic abuse case. He was arrested in June of that year for allegedly choking his wife and repeatedly punching her before she was unconscious.
Rogers’ children tried stopping him, but to no avail. When police arrived at the home, his oldest daughter told them that he would not only beat his wife, but he’d also beat the kids. Rogers received 60 days in jail, three years probation, and a $500 fine.

Boxing promoter Bob Arum is tired of hearing about talks of Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather. Whether the two men step inside a boxing ring or the Octagon, Arum thinks the talks are ridiculous (via TMZ Sports):
“Let me tell you something, Conor McGregor is not a boxer, so if they box under boxing rules with the regular gloves and so forth, a novice will beat him. Because he has no experience as a boxer. On the other hand, if they did the cage thing, Floyd wouldn’t have a chance. So, it’s just talk and it’s absolute nonsense for these guys to fight each other.”
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White says he offered both McGregor and Mayweather $25 million each to compete in a boxing bout. Arum believes White is just stirring the pot.
“He’s playing a game. Because Floyd is calling McGregor out and the point is, McGregor has a contract with UFC. So no fight, even if McGregor wanted, can be done without UFC. So, this is Dana White’s way of establishing that point.”
No end appears to be in sight for the McGregor-Mayweather talks. While there is no denying a fight between them would generate a significant amount of money, the credibility of the fight is in question.
Most boxing analysts and fans believe if “Money” comes out of retirement, he should fight a deserving challenger such as Gennady Golovkin. On the mixed martial arts (MMA) side, many feel “Notorious” should be focused on defending his UFC lightweight title against the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson at UFC 209.
