Jorge Masvidal claims he fights Leon Edwards after UFC 286 insider information

Former two-time undisputed UFC welterweight title challenger, Jorge Masvidal has claimed to be privy to some “insider information” ahead of his return to the Octagon next month against Gilbert Burns, claiming he will fight for gold against Leon Edwards before arch-rival, Colby Covington.

Masvidal, the current #11 ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since UFC 272 back in March of last year, suffering a one-sided, unanimous decision loss against the above-mentioned former interim division titleholder, Covington in the pair’s long-awaited grudge-match in Las Vegas.

Returning to active competition at UFC 287 next month in his native Miami, Florida – Jorge Masvidal takes co-headlining honors against the aforenoted, Burns – beneath a middleweight championship rematch between Alex Pereira, and Israel Adesanya.

Jorge Masvidal alludes to an immediate title fight with Leon Edwards post-UFC 287

And ahead of his co-main event return in the ‘Sunshine State’ against Burns, Masvidal claims that he has received some “insider information” – which would see him challenge for welterweight spoils against the above-noted, Edwards, despite the fact Covington has been tipped to fight for gold next.

“I’m fighting Gilbert (Burns), then I’m fighting Leon (Edwards),” Jorge Masvidal told MMA Junkie Radio during a recent interview. “I’m telling you that’s how it’s going to play out. I just got some insider information.”

Masvidal’s bold claims come off the back of a contradiction from UFC president, Dana White, who confirmed following UFC 286 that Edwards would be defending his undisputed crown against the brash, outspoken, Covington next – with the Clovis native calling for a UFC 290 showdown during International Fight Week in July.

Vowing to earn his way back to a rematch with former American Top Team training partner, Covington in the near future, Masvidal, who was involved in an altercation with the former outside a Miami steakhouse last April – promised to “murder” Covington under the UFC banner in a future re-run

UFC San Antonio Marlon Vera Cory Sandhagen Betting Preview

Taking main event honors at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas – a bantamweight division title-eliminator between the surging #3 ranked division challenger, Marlon Vera, and one-time interim championship challenger, the #5 rated, Cory Sandhagen closes the curtain on the organization’s return to the United States.

With the Octagon returning stateside for the first time in a week, the UFC most recently touched down in London, England for UFC 286 – with undisputed welterweight champion, Leon Edwards successfully defending his championship in a trilogy rubber match win over former gold holder, Kamaru Usman.

And this weekend, bantamweight division striking aces, Vera, and Sandhagen share the battlefield in search of weight class supremacy – and potentially, their first respective opportunities at undisputed spoils.

Headlining once again, last time out, Vera managed to stop former two-time undisputed bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz with a stunning fourth round high kick KO back in August in the main event of UFC Fight Night San Diego.

For Sandhagen, the Eliot Marshall trainee returned to the winner’s enclosure with an impressive fourth round win of his own back in September – taking out Song Yadong with a doctor’s stoppage TKO victory at the UFC Apex facility.

And at the time of publication, surging Chone native, Vera (+140) is sat as a betting underdog, albeit short, to defeat Colorado native, Sandhagen (-160) – per BetWay, with the due facing a pivotal matchup to determine the potential next title challenger at the bantamweight limit.

4-0 in his last four Octagon walks, Vera, a trainee under the renowned Jason Parillo – managed to add the above-mentioned Cruz to a winning streak which includes a win over Davey Grant, and Rob Font – as well as a front kick KO win over former undisputed lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar.

Challenging for interim bantamweight spoils on short notice in October 2021, Sandhagen dropped a decision loss to Petr Yan, which followed a close, debated summer defeat against former two-time bantamweight champion, T.J. Dillashaw.

Himself holding impressive knockout victories over the likes of Marlon Moraes, Iuri Alcantara, and common-foe, Edgar – Sandhagen may stick out at the moment as the outright betting favorite, however, the top-5 contender is a +500 underdog to hand Vera his first knockout loss. The Ecuadorian, on the other hand, has drawn lines himself – quite high, as -375 to finish Sandhagen with strikes.

Two of the most poised and cerebral strikers the bantamweight division currently has to offer, Vera, and Sandhagen are not currently expected to not just get each other out of their – but neither are backed to do so in timely fashion, with a stoppage between the two inside 60 seconds coming in as high as +5,000.

Unbeaten in the last thee years, RVCA mainstay, Vera dropped a close decision loss to former undisputed featherweight champion, Jose Aldo back in 2020 – which returned him to the losing circle after an eye-catching first round knockout win over the current #2 ranked contender, Sean O’Malley

Vera and Sandhagen’s showdown this weekend comes ahead of a busy schedule at 135lbs, with undisputed bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling slated to defend his crown against former two-weight best, Henry Cejudo at UFC 288 in May.

David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant Betting Preview

Returning to the squared circle this weekend at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada – unbeaten super middleweight puncher, David Benavidez looks to successfully defend his interim WBC super middleweight crown for the first time in his second reign – taking on former IBF super middleweight best, Caleb Plant in ‘Sin City’

Boasting an impressive, undefeated 26-0 professional record, Phoenix, Arizona-born boxer, Benavidez – who first clinched super middleweight gold under the WBC banner back in 2017 with a split decision win over Ronald Gavril, took interim spoils back in May of last year on home soil with a knockout win over David Lemieux.

As for Plant, the 22-1 puncher, hailing from Ashland City, Tennessee, returned to the winner’s enclosure back for the first time in his naive professional boxing career back in October in Brooklyn, New York – stopping common-foe, Anthony Dirrell with a blistering ninth round knockout victory.

Dropping just one career loss, the 30-year-old orthodox puncher dropped a penultimate knockout loss against middleweight division kingpin, Canelo Alvarez in a blockbuster championship fight back in November 2021 in Nevada.

And ahead of their Sunday showdown at the historic MGM Grand, Benavidez, who enters the title fray as defending champion once more – enters the bout, currently, as a supreme betting favorite outright to return Plant to losing ways – sitting at -300 over on BetWay.

Despite dropping just a single career loss to middleweight icon, Alvarez, Plant is already fighting the bookies ahead of his monumental championship offing against Benavidez – with the Tennessee native placed as a +225 betting underdog.

A blistering knockout artist and puncher, Benavidez, 26, has racked up 23 knockout victories in just 10 years inside the professional squared circle.

Snatching a slew of recent stoppage successes, following a decision and subsequent rematch knockout win over the above-mentioned, Gavril – Benavidez has stopped the likes of J’Leon Love, Roamer Alexis, Angulo, as well as common-foe, Dirrell with strikes.

Hooking up gloves under the Showtime! pay-per-view banner, Benavidez can be wagered as quite a heavy favorite to stop Plant inside the 12 round distance this weekend in Las Vegas, with BetWay offering the ‘Copper State’ product as a -140 favorite to leave the ringside judges out of the equation on Sunday.

Racking up 13 career knockout victories, Plant is not currently considered all that likely to not just hand Benavidez his first career loss – but also, expected to fail in a bid to KO the Arizonian, with odds of +700 currently floated at the time of publication.

Taking out the veteran, Limeaux inside just three rounds and inside less than 10 minutes last year, Benavidez appears to be favored to stop Plant before the conclusion of the ninth round – with BetWay offering odds on the champion to force the issue before double-digit rounds at -900.

Placed as low as +400 to win on points against Benavidez over on BetWay – Plant’s most likely route to success comes via the judges it seems, with the 30-year-old sitting higher than the former throughout rounds one to 12 to force a stoppage in the action.

One-time UFC middleweight title challenger, Paulo Costa has confirmed he has agreed financial terms on a new four-fight deal with the Dana White-led organization, following infamous contract woes between the two in the last year.

Costa, the current #5 ranked middleweight contender, was most recently expected to fight former undisputed division champion, Robert Whittaker back in February at UFC 284, however, the matchup between the duo fell to the wayside.

The Belo Horizonte native snapped his two-fight losing skid back in August of last year against former undisputed middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold, landing a unanimous decision victory over the veteran ex-titleholder.

Paulo Costa confirms terms have been reached on a new UFC deal

Costa, who retains just a single fight on his current Octagon deal – confirmed how he, along with his manager and partner had agreed financial terms with the UFC regarding a new contract, as well as revealing he had been approached with a May fight against Sean Strickland, and a potential October matchup against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“I haven’t signed the contract yet but we have reached a deal with the UFC regarding the pay,” Paulo Costs said during an interview with PVT. “It wasn’t easy, there was a lot of hard work, and I have to highlight Tamara’s (Alves) brilliant work here.”

“I want that, too,” Paulo Costa said of a fight with Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland. “[The UFC] want to make sure this (Khamzat) Chimaev fight happen at all costs, but I want to make both happen. We’ll see.”

Suffering a knockout loss to former middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya in his sole title fight with the organization, Costa then suffered a decision defeat against recent UFC 284 winner, Marvin Vettori.

En route to his premier title tilt, Paulo Costa had landed notable victories over the likes of Uriah Hall, former welterweight champion, Johny Hendricks, as well as multiple-time title challenger, Yoel Romero.

Jorge Masvidal plots to murder Colby Covington a future UFC rematch

Former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger, Jorge Masvidal has plans to secure a future rematch with bitter-rival, former interim champion, Colby Covington. And claimed he hopes to “murder” the Clovis native during a fight under the promotion’s banner.

Masvidal, the current #11 ranked welterweight contender, slumped to his third consecutive loss back in March of last year at UFC 272 against former American Top Team training partner, Covington, dropping a one-sided unanimous decision loss to the outspoken contender.

The defeat came off the back of a pair of championship defeats to former gold holder, Kamaru Usman – the second one courtesy of a brutal second round one-punch KO back in April 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Miami native is slated to return to the Octagon next month, co-headlining UFC 287 against one-time welterweight title chaser, Gilbert Burns – with the duo attempting to fight back to a title affair against undisputed titleholder, Leon Edwards.

However, the aforenoted, Covington has been tipped to challenge Edwards for the undisputed welterweight crown as soon as this summer by UFC president, Dana White.

Jorge Masvidal vows to earn future rematch with arch-rival, Colby Covington

Sharing his thoughts on his judging loss to the Clovis native last year, Masvidal stressed that he could produce a better showing from himself in a rematch with Covington – and claimed that he wanted to “murder” the latter, after an infamous outside-the-cage run-in between the two in the weeks following UFC 272

“I wanted to f*cking kill him (Colby Covington),” Jorge Masvidal said during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. “But it wasn’t the best version of me [at UFC 272]. It just wasn’t the best version of me and in this sport – that’s what I love about it, what happened, happened, and everything else is bullsh*t. So until we fight again, nobody will get to see that better version of me. But I promise you Joe (Rogan), before I close this chapter in my life – in MMA, I will have completed against this guy (again) and I’m going to f*cking take his soul, bro.”

“I promise you, before my career’s over, I’m going to f*cking murder Colby – in the cage, legally,” Jorge Masvidal continued.

Before his 2020 decision loss to Usman on ‘Fight Island’, Masvidal had embarked on a trio of impressive victories over organizational veterans, Darren Till, Ben Askren, and Nate Diaz – the most recent of which in November 2019.

Khamzat Chimaev claims Alex Pereira easiest fight for him in the UFC

Undefeated UFC welterweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev has claimed that undisputed middleweight champion, Alex Pereira, turned down a fight with him before inking terms to rematch former titleholder, Israel Adesanya at UFC 287 next month in Miami, Florida.

Chimaev, the current #3 ranked welterweight contender, has yet to return to active competition since September of last year, co-headlining UFC 279 against Californian striker, Kevin Holland in a reworked catchweight fight.

Initially scheduled to headline the pay-per-view event against Nate Diaz in a welterweight matchup, Chimaev submitted Holland with a first round D’Arce choke win, having missed weight by seven-and-a-half pounds for his slated bout with Diaz.

Expected to make a middleweight division return for the first time since his UFC debut back in 2020, Chimaev has been touted to fight contenders within the division’s top-3 by UFC leader, Dana White

Khamzat Chimaev eyes July return to the UFC at potential Sweden event

Claiming he had signed bout agreements to fight former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington – as well as former middleweight kingpin, Robert Whittaker since his win over Holland, Chimaev also claimed middleweight kingpin, Pereira rejected a December turnaround to defend his title against him.

“I was told it [the fight was] for the belt,” Khamzat Chimaev said of a UFC 282 fight with Alex Pereira during an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “Then UFC say – I speak with Sean Shelby only about that fight [with Alex Pereira]. Sean Shelby says first, ‘Yes, brother – let’s try it.’ And then a day later he says, ‘No, brother, we’ll first fight Colby (Covington)’ And I said ok.”

“And then the guy [Pereira] said I said we should fight at 205 [pounds],” Khamzat Chimaev explained. “The UFC doesn’t want to see you fight [at light heavyweight yet], you only took the belt [at middleweight] and now you wanna go up and fight for a different weight class and no belt? I am 170 and he is 185 – we fight like 205? It makes sense? I don’t know. That’s why UFC maybe didn’t call me about that fight. I don’t know –  I was ready to fight in Brazil, at a different weight class, which weight class he wants. It’s the most easy (sic) fight for me in the UFC.”
