Felice Herrig believes that she isnt’ “young and beautiful enough” for the UFC to put the effort into promoting her.

Herrig comes off of a spectacular performance this past weekend (Sun. June 25, 2017) at UFC Oklahoma City where she took home a unanimous decision victory over opponent Justine Kish. The win marked “LBD’s” third straight victory inside the Octagon since her unanimous decision loss to Paige VanZant in April of 2015.

She now looks to propel herself into the next tier of 115-pound contenders the next time she steps into the Octagon, but she’d like to get a little more promotion out of the UFC going forward. Herrig doesn’t see that happening, however, because she feels the UFC likes to focus their marketing efforts on more “young and beautiful” stars (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“Honestly, if you want to know the truth, I just feel like I’m not young and beautiful for the UFC to want to promote me,” she said. “It’s sad because I’ve really worked hard to be here. It’s hard to see these people who’ve not been through what I’ve been through and just got to the UFC at the right time, and they’re now getting all these opportunities.

“I’ve seen how hard I’ve worked to get here, and it just doesn’t matter because I just feel I’m not pretty enough, and I’m not getting any younger.”

Herrig’s last two wins have been rather impressive ones, as both Kish and Alexa Grasso were both undefeated before running into the 32-year-old veteran. In the end, Herrig knows that the hardcore mixed martial arts (MMA) fans appreciate her work inside the Octagon and she doesn’t need ‘fancy trophy’ to tell her what she’s worth:

“I just think that my performances are going to keep speaking volumes,” she said. “I think fans, the people and the media see and recognize I just beat two undefeated fighters, two really good undefeated fighters that were no joke. Alexa Grasso is no joke. Justine Kish is no joke. Anyone in this sport that’s not just a casual fan knows better. I don’t need a fancy trophy to tell me I’m good or to tell me what I’m made of I know.”

“Little Bull Dog” isn’t looking to point fingers at the UFC or promotion President Dana White for her unhappiness, as many other fighters feel the same way she does as it pertains to promotion. Herrig simply feels she has paid her dues in the sport and would like a little more love in return for all of her hard work:

“I’m not trying to make this like a point finger at the UFC or Dana White or anybody,” Herrig said. “I know they have a business to run. … I’m not the only fighter who feels like this. … We put a lot out there as fighters, and I don’t know – I feel like I’ve paid my dues, and nobody can deny that.

“I’m a UFC fighter, and I’ve worked my way to the top, so I would like a little more love. That’s it.”

Felice Herrig Says She’s ‘Not Young and Beautiful’ Enough for the UFC to Promote

Over the last year, veteran fighter Felice Herrig has quietly transformed from being part-fighter, part-social media personality to a legitimate contender in the UFC’s strawweight division. And at UFC Fight Night 112, she posted what could be the best win of her 12-year combat sports career in her under-the-radar bout with Justine Kish.

But why has that transformation been quiet? Why was her fight under the radar? According to Herrig, it’s because she doesn’t fit into the UFC’s narrow mold of a “promotable” female fighter.

“I think that I had one bad performance, and because I’m a veteran in this sport you can’t look at me as this new up-and-comer that they can be like, ‘This girl is going to be the next big thing,'” she said in the UFC Fight Night 112 post-fight press conference (via MMAFighting.com‘s Danny Segura). “I already solidified myself in this sport … I’ve fought some of the best and fought completely out of my weight class in so many fights.”

Herrig‘s gripe is valid there. Man or woman, the UFC has proven itself less-than-inclined to invest in aged fighters over the years, with surging competitors often forced to toil away on undercards despite looking phenomenal for extended periods of time (38-year-old Francisco Trinaldo being a great recent example).

As she said that and her voice cracked more and more, however, it was easy to tell that there was a deeper gripe. She didn’t try and hide it, either, and continued her thoughts.

“Honestly, if you want to know the truth, sometimes I feel like I’m not young and beautiful for the UFC to want to promote me. … It’s hard to see these people who’ve not been through what I’ve been through who just got to the UFC at the right time, and they’re getting all these opportunities,” she said. “I see how hard I’ve worked to get here and it doesn’t matter because I’m not pretty enough and I’m not getting any younger, so I don’t know.”

It’s hard to argue with her, insofar as the UFC prioritizing, highlighting and promoting women’s physical appearance over actual in-cage accomplishments. There are numerous examples of the UFC, openly or subtly, focusing on the beauty of a handful of its competitors rather than any actual sport-related credentials, which the promotion has been criticized for many times over the years.

Unfortunately, it seems there is little Herrig can do to shake the UFC from this approach. That said, she plainly stated that she is far from alone in feeling this way, and, as such, her colleagues and fans could back her up and possibly place pressure on the UFC over the coming weeks.

It was a pretty crappy night for one UFC strawweight inside the Octagon at yesterday’s (Sun. June 25, 2017) UFC Oklahoma City event – literally.

During the 115-pound bout between Justine Kish and Felice Herrig on the main card of UFC Fight Night 112, fight fans may have noticed a number of brown stains on the canvas as Kish was being mauled on the ground by Herrig. Well, it turns out Herrig actually made Kish poop herself in the cage.

You can check out the brown stains of doom here below:

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen someone take the Browns to the Super Bowl inside the MMA cage, as former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia did the deed against Assuerio Silva at Fight Night 3 back in January 16, 2006. Kish took the incident like a champ, however, as she took to Twitter to fully own up to it:

Kish’s loss to Herrig marked the first of her MMA career, as all judges saw it as a unanimous decision victory for “LBD.” To Kish’s credit, she found herself locked in an extremely deep rear-naked choke on the ground and was able to hang in there before breaking free of the choke.

Despite her efforts, Kish has now earned the first blemish on her MMA record and now dubs a UFC record of 2-1.
