Last week, it was finally announced that legendary former five division world champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather would officially be coming out of retirement to take on UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match on August 26, 2017 in Las Vegas.

Since then, much of the talk has come from McGregor’s side, as the Irishman’s team has showed nothing but confidence. Mayweather, on the other hand, hasn’t said much.

Many in the combat sports world, however, are indeed expecting Mayweather to win. After all, “Money” is one of the very best boxers of his generation, while McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match to date.

In fact, longtime boxing coach Angelo Reyes, a product of the legendary Freddie Roach, feels as if Mayweather will finish McGregor early:

“Mayweather will knock him out in three (rounds) or less,” Reyes told MMAJunkie Radio. “Everybody thinks, ‘Oh, well, Floyd is just going to dance around.’ Not in this fight. And he doesn’t dance around. I don’t think he dances around anyway. You have to truly understand the craft of boxing to really understand what he does.”

Despite having never stepped into the squared circle, McGregor has taken on fighters in the Octagon who possess a boxing-based style, most notably Nate Diaz, who the “Notorious” one fought twice in 2016. Reyes used these bouts to back up his prediction regarding Mayweather-McGregor:

“Arguable. I can argue it,” Reyes said. “(McGregor) didn’t dominate Nate Diaz. … I’m just saying that he didn’t beat the heck out of Nate Diaz.”

Simply put. Reyes feels that if McGregor couldn’t ‘dominate Diaz, then he certainly doesn’t stand a chance against Mayweather.

Given the incredible sum of money UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will make for his August 26 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, some have wondered whether or not we’ll ever see the Irishman back in the Octagon. UFC President Dana White has said that McGregor would like to fight again before the end of the year, but many remain skeptical.

His longtime manager, Audie Attar, however, recently confirmed that a return to the UFC is ‘definitely’ the plan for McGregor:

“Conor is a very ambitious young man. And those are two key words, young and ambitious,” said Attar on a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “He has a lot more that he wants to accomplish athletically and a businessman. He definitely want to fight in MMA again. If all goes well and he feels good, he could fight at the end of the year. There are no guarantees, but it’s definitely in his plans to come back and compete again in the UFC.’

Given the fact that McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match, many are giving him no chance against Mayweather, a 49-0 former five division world champion. Many have even criticized the fight by calling it nothing more than a ‘money grab’. Attar, however, is confident that the “Notorious” one will ‘shock the world’ on August 26:

“Hi haters,” he laughed. “It’s the same people that said it wasn’t going to happen, so you can’t pay attention to all of that negativity. If you paid attention to all the people that told you that you can’t, then you are not going to be living out your dream. My thing to them is, ‘tune in and watch and we will see.’ That’s a mistake. This is a young man that knows how to throw them hands and has all the skills he needs to compete at the highest level. On August 26, I’m confident he will go out there and shock the world,” he said, adding that he believes McGregor will knockout Mayweather.

Coach: I Think McGregor Is Going To Put Mayweather Away

Conor McGregor has shown nothing but confidence regarding his August 26 boxing match with 49-0 Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Conor McGregor has shown nothing but confidence regarding his August 26 boxing match with 49-0 Floyd “Money” Mayweather. His longtime striking coach Owen Roddy also appears to be nothing but confident regarding the Irishman’s chances against “Money”:

“I have no doubt in my mind he’s gonna do it,” Roddy told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “I think it’s gonna be one of the most insane nights ever.”

Due to the fact that McGregor, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, has never competed in a professional boxing match, many are giving him a slim chance to topple Mayweather, a man many consider to be the best boxer of his generation.

With that being said, Roddy is well aware that the challenge at hand is a ‘tall task’, but he feels as if McGregor is ‘capable’ of getting the job done:

“It’s a tall task,” Roddy said. “But if anybody could do it, Conor can. He shocks the world every time. Every time he fights he’s doubted, people are like, ‘You cant do this, you cant do that.’

“We know what Conor is capable of. Conor does it every time.”

Not only does Roddy feel as if McGregor will get the job, but he even went as far as to predict a knockout victory for the “Notorious” one:

“I think he’s gonna put him away,” Roddy said. “I think he’s gonna KO him. I think it’ll take a couple of rounds. And I know my phone is about to explode, I’m sure. But look, Conor does these things. He does these exceptional things all the time. If he says he’s gonna go in and knock him out, I think he’s gonna go in and knock him out.”

As far as a specific game plan goes, Roddy wasn’t willing to get into the details, but he did admit that he sees some holes in Mayweather’s game, which is a bold claim considering the former five division world champion has come out on top against some of the very best boxers of this generation throughout his unbeaten career:

“I don’t really want to get into details on what we’re looking to do,” Roddy said. “But, I mean, nobody is perfect. Nobody is perfect. [Mayweather is] unbelievable defensively, he’s pound-for-pound one of the greatest, but everybody has holes, everybody makes mistakes, everybody has predictable patterns that they do over and over again.”

At the end of the day, Roddy feels as if McGregor’s power and reflexes will be the difference on fight night:

“Conor hits like a middleweight,” Roddy said. “You can ask any of the middleweights in our gym. He hits as hard, if not harder. It’s strange. He’s got cat-like reflexes. He’s so quick on his slips and his pulls. He’s very accurate as well. I think he’s gonna slip and fire and Mayweather will be on wobbly legs. It might be a counter, too. That’s what I see. That’s what I see in my head.”

What type of performance are you expecting from McGregor on August 26 in Las Vegas?

Quote: Conor McGregor Will 100-Percent KO Floyd Mayweather

After months and months of speculation, it was finally announced last week that former pound-for-pound king and former five division world champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather would be coming out of retirement to take on reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor on August 26, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The bout will be 12 rounds and it will be contested at 154 pounds.

In the Octagon, McGregor is most known for his striking, and to be more specific, the power in which he possesses in his hands. Due to the fact that he has never competed in a professional boxing match, however, many are giving McGregor a slim chance against Mayweather, a man many consider to be the best boxer of his generation. In fact, some have argued that McGregor will have difficulty even landing on “Money”, a defensive genius.

One man, however, is convinced that the Irishman will knockout Mayweather. Recently speaking on the topic, Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace and McGregor teammate Dillon Danis, who has quickly become one of the most outspoken voices in combat sports, said that McGregor will ‘100-percent’ finish Mayweather:

“I don’t think he’ll hang with him, I think he will knock him out, 100-percent. It will be a bit more dragged out (than one round), Mayweather is a bit more better at avoiding the shots (than Jose Aldo), so I think maybe under six,” Danis told TMZ Sports.

This is certainly a bold claim, as Mayweather possesses a perfect 49-0 professional record. Not only has he never been defeated or knocked out, but “Money” has never been knocked down, nor has he ever seriously been hurt inside the squared circle, so it’d be hard to imagine a fighter making his professional debut knocking him out.

Anything can happen in a fight, however, and McGregor, as always, is highly confident in his chances. The “Notorious” one hasn’t competed since last November when he brutally knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 from the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City to become the promotion’s lightweight champion. Since then, he has been out of action due to the birth of his first child, but he has also spent much of his time over the last few months campaigning for this fight against Mayweather.

“Money”, on the other hand, hasn’t stepped into the ring since Sept. 2015 when he scored a dominant one-sided decision victory over Andre Berto. He announced his retirement after the bout, but made it clear earlier this year that he would be willing to come out of retirement, but only to fight McGregor.

What do you make of Danis’ comments?

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match, but he will indeed take on undefeated former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather in a 12-round boxing match on August 26, 2017 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the Octagon, McGregor is known for his striking and his knockout power, but boxing is obviously a completely different sport from mixed martial arts, so it’s interesting to consider whether or not McGregor will make any changes within his camp for the bout with Mayweather.

The Irishman prides himself on his background and his team at SBG Ireland, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him surround himself with the same people as he has up until this point. And that may very well be the case, as UFC President Dana White recently confirmed that McGregor will remain in Ireland to prepare for “Money”:

“Conor McGregor is working with a bunch of guys over there in Ireland,” White told reporters. “You know how he is about Ireland. Everybody thinks you gotta go here or there, because the best this and that. He’s like ‘We the Irish over here have our stuff together too,’ so he’s very serious about being Irish and keeping it all Irish.”

Many have given the “Notorious” one a slim chance to topple the uber technical Mayweather, who holds a professional record of 49-0, but unsurprisingly, McGregor feels as if he will have his hand raised on fight night:

“Conor told me the McGregor clan has been taking over villages for 300 years,” White continued. “And Floyd’s village is next.”

What do you make of McGregor’s decision to train for his mega fight with Mayweather in Ireland?

Earlier this week, it was officially announced that former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather would be coming out of retirement to take on UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match on August 26, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather has been out of action for well over a year, as he hasn’t competed since scoring a one-sided decision victory over Andre Berto in Sept. 2015. “Money,” however, recently released a statement on McGregor and his return:

“McGregor is a tough competitor. People all around the world demanded this fight so I had to give them what they wanted to see,” said Mayweather in a recent interview with BSOTV. “They asked for this fight. I was in retirement, but they wanted me back and I’m back.”

Due to the fact that McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match, many are giving him a slim chance to win. Mayweather is arguably the best boxer of his generation, possessing tremendous quickness and perfect timing, along with being a defensive genius. “Money”, however, is aware that McGregor has loyal fans who may very well stand behind him:

“You’re supposed to stand behind your man. Stand behind the fighter that you believe in,” said Mayweather about McGregor’s followers. “He’s a hell of a competitor.”
