Thiago Silva claims strike he received Chelsea would not be allowed in the UFC

Chelsea center half, Thiago Silva has hit out at fellow Brazilian international, Vinicius, claiming a strike to the back of the head – resembling almost a rabbit punch during their match last night against Fulham in the Premier League, claiming such a strike would not even fly in the UFC or in mixed martial arts.

English Premier League side, Chelsea managed to register just their second league win of the season from seven matches this campaign last night at Craven Cottage against fellow London-side, Fulham – with goals from Mykalio Mudryk and Armando Broja enough to see off the home side in the second half.

However, controversy surrounded an incident involving the above-mentioned, Thiago Silva and his compatriot, Fulham forward, Vinicius whilst the two were contesting for a loose pass.

Chasing the ball down, Vinicius appeared to strike Silva in the back of his neck with what almost appeared to be a rabbit punch, sending the former AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain central defender to the pitch in agony.

And despite calls for the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) to look into the incident with the view of possibly dismissing Vinicius from the remainder of the match and issuing him with a red card, the Brazilian emerged unpunished.

Thiago Silva claims last night’s incident would not even be allowed in the UFC

Taking issue with the incident, Brazil international, Thiago Silva hit out on social media, noting his knowledge of the unified ruleset of mixed martial arts – claiming such a blow to the back of an opponent’s head would not be allowed in the sport.

“This is not even allowed in the UFC,” Thiago Silva posted on his official Instagram story. “But it’s cool.”

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has hit out at former Republic of Ireland international, and former Aston Villa center half, Paul McGrath amid his back-and-forth with radio DJ, PJ Gallagher – mocking the former footballer’s battles with alcoholism.

McGregor, 34, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has yet to make a return to mixed martial arts since he suffered a gruesome leg fracture at UFC 264 back in July of last year in a losing effort against Dustin Poirier.

In recent days, the Crumlin native has been engaged in a rather high-profile war-of-words with the above-mentioned former Naked Camera frontman and radio disc jockey, Gallagher – accusing the comedian of “crying about depression” in newspapers. McGregor’s response comes after Gallagher took note of UFC commentator, Laura Sanko’s reference to the Dubliner as part of a British contingent in the organization, with Gallagher claiming the UK “could have” the former champion.

Jumping to the defense of Gallagher, McGrath referred to McGregor’s comments, urging the former to stay away from taking “bullies” comments to heart.”

“P.J. take no notice of bullies, you’re loved by everyone,” Former Manchester United and Aston Villa defender, Paul McGrath tweeted. “Whatever you do don’t let him (Conor McGregor) get the better of ya pal stay well. Top Man.”

“Conor you need to find GOD and when you do, knock on my door I will have the kettle on for ya… my good friend,” Paul McGrath tweeted.

Referring to McGrath, a former Republic of Ireland international footballer as “English”, McGregor mocked McGrath’s previous battles with alcoholism.

“I’ve decided from now on to engage only with positivity and support on this platform,” Conor McGregor said today in a now-deleted tweet. “There is no point to engage in any sort of response to little wimpy cryba’s (sic) and old man farmer beater alcos and his little offspring bottler son. F*ck the lot of them. Back to the gaf it’s a park.” (H/T Alexander K Lee)

Conor McGregor bars Paul McGrath from his Dublin pubs

McGregor, a proprietor of multiple pubs in the Dublin area, most notably The Black Forge in Crumlin, also claimed McGrath would be hereby barred from all public houses owned by him as well.

“Ooh aah Paul McGrath he’s barred from the gate bar for been a f*ckin’ spa,” Conor McGregor tweeted. “Ha ha. Best stay out of it Paul. I bully no one. I just come at people when they try and bully me. End of. Also, you’re barred from all my pubs as well now.”

Canelo Alvarez

Professional boxing ace, Canelo Alvarez has issued an apology to Argentine forward, Lionel Messi – admitting he got “carried away” after he threatened the Paris Saint Germain striker, believing he had disrespected the Mexico national flag at the FIFA World Cup.

Canelo, the current undisputed super middleweight champion, last headlined a T-Mobile Arena card against three time opponent, Gennady Golovkin – securing a dominant unanimous decision victory to retain his championships back in September of this year.

Issuing a threat to former Barcelona forward, Messi, Canelo claimed the Argentina national team captain disrespected his country’s national flag – appearing to kick it off his football boot during celebrations in the team’s Qatar dressing room.

Canelo Alvarez walks back threats aimed at Lionel Messi

Walking back those comments and threats this week following Argentina’s pivotal 0-2 victory against Poland as both teams progressed to the last 16 at the expense of Mexico and Saudi Arabia, Canelo admitted he got “carried away” in his tirade aimed at Messi.

“These last few days I got carried away by the passion and love I feel for my country and made comments that were out of place, for which I want to apologize to (Lionel) Messi and the people of Argentina,” Guadalajara native, Canelo Alvarez tweeted.

“Every day we learn something new, and this time it was my turn,” Canelo Alvarez tweeted. “I wish both teams much success in their matches today, and here we will continue supporting Mexico until the end.”

Following Canelo’s outlandish comments and threats, Messi was defended by his Argentine compatriot and former Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, as well as UFC welterweight contender, Santiago Ponzinibbio – who is scheduled to fight former champion, Robbie Lawler at UFC 282 later this month.

Expected to make a light heavyweight division return next year, Canelo is rumored to pursue a title rematch with Dmitry Bivol, with the Russian defeating the middleweight kingpin in an upset unanimous decision victory in May of this year.
