Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has hit out at former Republic of Ireland international, and former Aston Villa center half, Paul McGrath amid his back-and-forth with radio DJ, PJ Gallagher – mocking the former footballer’s battles with alcoholism.

McGregor, 34, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has yet to make a return to mixed martial arts since he suffered a gruesome leg fracture at UFC 264 back in July of last year in a losing effort against Dustin Poirier.

In recent days, the Crumlin native has been engaged in a rather high-profile war-of-words with the above-mentioned former Naked Camera frontman and radio disc jockey, Gallagher – accusing the comedian of “crying about depression” in newspapers. McGregor’s response comes after Gallagher took note of UFC commentator, Laura Sanko’s reference to the Dubliner as part of a British contingent in the organization, with Gallagher claiming the UK “could have” the former champion.

Jumping to the defense of Gallagher, McGrath referred to McGregor’s comments, urging the former to stay away from taking “bullies” comments to heart.”

“P.J. take no notice of bullies, you’re loved by everyone,” Former Manchester United and Aston Villa defender, Paul McGrath tweeted. “Whatever you do don’t let him (Conor McGregor) get the better of ya pal stay well. Top Man.”

“Conor you need to find GOD and when you do, knock on my door I will have the kettle on for ya… my good friend,” Paul McGrath tweeted.

Referring to McGrath, a former Republic of Ireland international footballer as “English”, McGregor mocked McGrath’s previous battles with alcoholism.

“I’ve decided from now on to engage only with positivity and support on this platform,” Conor McGregor said today in a now-deleted tweet. “There is no point to engage in any sort of response to little wimpy cryba’s (sic) and old man farmer beater alcos and his little offspring bottler son. F*ck the lot of them. Back to the gaf it’s a park.” (H/T Alexander K Lee)

Conor McGregor bars Paul McGrath from his Dublin pubs

McGregor, a proprietor of multiple pubs in the Dublin area, most notably The Black Forge in Crumlin, also claimed McGrath would be hereby barred from all public houses owned by him as well.

“Ooh aah Paul McGrath he’s barred from the gate bar for been a f*ckin’ spa,” Conor McGregor tweeted. “Ha ha. Best stay out of it Paul. I bully no one. I just come at people when they try and bully me. End of. Also, you’re barred from all my pubs as well now.”

Conor McGregor’s infamous ‘billionaire strut’ celebration is now a celebration in EA Sports’ FIFA 23.

Much like Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siu’, Lebron James’ chalk routine or Usain Bolt’s ‘bolt’, there are some celebrations or rituals that transcend just sport and McGregor’s ‘billie-strut’ is no different.

The nonchalant, cocky walk was popularised by McGregor during his rise in the UFC. Chest up, arms swinging by his side, the Irishman would strut around the Octagon prior to his UFC bouts — debuted in his 2016 rematch with Nate Diaz.

The move has been copied by many athletes in their respective sports and was even on featured as Leon Edwards celebration following his incredible last-minute knockout over Kamaru Usman.

Now you are able to recreate this in the newest addition of FIFA (FIFA 23) as a celebration following a goal.

When will Conor McGregor make his return?

McGregor is still the biggest star that MMA has even after his inconstant performances and activity over the past few years, fans still eagerly await his return.

Now 34, McGregor is still on the mend from the horrific leg fracture he suffered in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier in July of last year.

Things are looking positive though as McGregor recently posted new training and sparring footage. While it is clear McGregor is not 100% and still has some way to go before his return, we did get to witness some flashes of brilliance that McGregor is still capable of.

The lightweight division is anything but short of names that McGregor could face upon his return. Although McGregor could just about face anyone and it would likely surpass a million pay-per-view buys the former champion will undoubtedly want to push himself.

Names like Justin Gaethje or Michael Chandler would be fun fights that are also winnable for McGregor if it stays standing.

Real Madrid have reportedly expressed an interest in hosting a Conor McGregor-headlined UFC event at their 81,000 capacity Santiago Bernabeu Stadium during the football offseason.

Per Alvaro Carrera in AS, the UFC is looking to expand its brand into Europe, and Ireland’s McGregor is particularly keen to fight closer to his homeland so his fans do not have to travel so far—the Notorious’ last six fights have all been in the United States.

According to Irish radio station Newstalk (via Carrera), Real would be eager to host a UFC event with McGregor, 28, topping the bill, but it would have to take place “from May to July.”

A Los Blancos representative reportedly said the club would “be glad if we could make a UFC event; our stadium can hold more than 80,000 fans.”

The Bernabeu would likely be an incredible venue for a UFC event and Madrid would be a much more convenient location for McGregor’s Irish-based fans to travel to.

McGregor has a slight connection to the Spanish giants as well having met up with Real superstar Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer:

Per Carrera, McGregor’s first choice for a European-based fight would be Ireland, but bouts on the continent could well become more regular following “the public and commercial success of its recent event in Manchester.”

UFC President Dana White recently revealed that McGregor has made it clear he never wants to fight in Nevada again, per Fox Sports’ The Herd with Colin Cowherd (via Newstalk’s Daniel Kelly).

Five of his last six fights have been hosted in Las Vegas, but he will face Eddie Alvarez in New York at UFC 205 in November for his next bout.

The UFC featherweight champion is moving closer to home by fighting on the east coast of the United States, and it seems he could now make a stop in Madrid to entertain the Bernabeu.
