Francis Ngannou set for "50 times" bigger payday than UFC fighters in fight with Tyson Fury

Ahead of a potential boxing clash with current WBC heavyweight titleholder, Tyson Fury, former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has been touted to earn up to “50 times” more than other UFC fighters – by the Morecambe native himself.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the promotion, has been sidelined from combat sports since successfully unifying the heavyweight crowns against then-interim gold holder, Ciryl Gane back in January of last year in the main event of UFC 270.

As for Fury, the current WBC heavyweight champion most recently landed a third career win over veteran title chaser, Derek Chisora, defeating his compatriot with a tenth round slew of strikes for a standing TKO triumph back in December of last year.

And last night, following weeks of speculation regarding a potential exhibition boxing match between the duo – where knockdowns are prohibited, however, multiple reports detailed how a matchup between Fury and UFC alum, Ngannou is set to be announced imminently.

Francis Ngannou has been backed to land a significant payday against Tyson Fury

While speaking on speculation of a potential squared circle outing with Batié native, Ngannou, Fury touted that the Cameroonian knockout artist is in for a rather sizeable payday when compared with his former UFC counterparts.

“We’ve had a lot of offers from the Middle East at the moment to host that fight over the summer,” Tyson Fury said of a bout with Francis Ngannou while speaking on the Out of Interest Podcast. “[The purse is] private information, but let’s say it’s 10, 20, 30 – f*cking 50 times the amount (UFC fighters make).” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)

Following his decision to depart the UFC back in January of this year, Francis Ngannou penned a multi-fight deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League) – ahead of an expected outing under the organization’s banner in the opening quarter of 2024.

According to multiple reports this Friday night, undisputed WBC heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, and former undisputed UFC heavyweight titleholder, Francis Ngannou are slated to fight next – with an announcement of a long-speculated clash imminent.

“Tyson Fury x Francis Ngannou is expected to be announced very soon, per sources,” Helwani tweeted.

News of an expected clash of Fury and Batié knockout artist, Ngannou has come off the back of claims from Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, that the duo are expected to face-off next in their next respective combat sports walks, however, according to the latter, knockdowns in a potential exhibition bout are prohibited.

Sidelined from professional boxing since successfully defending his WBC heavyweight championship back in December of last year in London, Fury most recently turned in an impressive tenth round TKO win over three-time foe, Derek Chisora – landing his third victory over the challenger to boot.

As for Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion has been sidelined since his final Octagon outing back in January of last year at UFC 270, defeating then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane in a unanimous decision title unification win.

Sidelined from mixed martial arts competition since then, Ngannou, who has since penned a multi-fight deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League), is expected to make his debut outing with the Peter Murray-led organization in the opening quarter of 2024 to boot.

Heavyweight boxing world champion Tyson Fury added some additional fuel to the rumors that his next fight will come against Francis Ngannou.

‘The Gypsy King’ has been searching for an opponent ever since his 10th-round TKO against Derek Chisora in December. Unfortunately, little progress has been made with negotiations to fight both Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua falling apart in recent months. Despite the lack of an opponent, Tyson Fury is still determined to step back into the squared circle by September and suggested that the man he meets could end up being the former UFC heavyweight champ.

“There’s been a lot of talk of me and Ngannou fighting each other and he wants to come to boxing,” Fury told the Out of Interest Podcast during a recent trip to Australia. “He wants to fight me, talking a lot of stuff on Instagram, was even at one of my last fights, got in the ring, and confronted me.

“There’s potential but we’ve had a lot of offers come in from the Middle East to host that fight this summer,” Fury revealed.

Tyson Fury Has No Interest in Fighting Inside of a Cage

Tyson Fury had previously been linked to a fight with Usyk in Saudi Arabia at the end of the year, but fight promoter Frank Warren confirmed that is no longer the case. However, Warren did reveal that a Fury fight announcement would be coming in the next few weeks and that it would be a ‘game-changer’ for fight fans. Warren also confirmed Fury’s interest in cross-promotional fights against Ngannou and the reigning UFC heavyweight king, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.  “Yeah, he’s up for that. He can’t sit around twiddling his thumbs,” Warren told talkSPORT.

But don’t expect Tyson Fury to step inside the Octagon or PFL Smart Cage anytime soon. ‘The Gypsy King’ has remained adamant that he is not a cage fighter and only intends on competing in the ring where he runs the show.

“Do I want to go into a cage and start rolling about with some absolute crank? No, thank you,” Fury joked. “But I’m not being paid to go in a ring and do that, am I? I make big boy money in a boxing ring, so if any of these guys want to make some big boy money and they want to fight the champ, I suggest get a pair of boxing gloves on and come and fight me under Queensbury rules and make your biggest payday ever” (h/t Manchester Evening News).

Tim Sylvia claims he would beat Francis Ngannou in his prime UFC I don't think he's good

Former two-time undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Tim Sylvia has claimed that in his fighting prime, he would have likely toppled Cameroonian knockout artist and fellow former division champion, Francis Ngannou – claiming the latter is actually not “that good”.

Sylvia, a former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, retired from active competition back in 2013, slumping to 31-10(1) as a professional following a unanimous decision loss to Ruslan Magomedov at an event in Moscow, Russia at the super heavyweight limit.

An alum of ONE Championship, Affliction and the aforenoted, UFC to boot – Sylvia won the undisputed UFC heavyweight crown in his sophomore outing in the Octagon, stopping Ricco Rodriguez with a first round TKO win.

Defending the title in a subsequent knockout win over Gan McGee, Syliva then dropped a memorable technical submission loss to Frank Mir via armbar – and then dropping a 47-second achilles lock loss to Andrei Arlovski in an interim heavyweight championship outing.

In 2006, Sylvia avenged his loss to Arlovski with a first round TKO win against the Bularus native, before taking a trilogy rubber match win in his title defense, before beating Jeff Monson. Sylvia would drop the crown to the returning former two-division champion, Randy Couture

Tim Sylvia claims Francis Ngannou’s ability is not “that good”

Sharing his thoughts on the run of Batié native, Ngannou, Syliva dismissed a lot of the ability of the former UFC heavyweight champion.

“I don’t think Francis (Ngannou) is that good,” Tim Sylvia told Submission Radio during a recnet interview. “He’s a monster with heavy hands but his punches come from his hips and he swings wild and crazy. He hits you, you’re going to sleep but a technical fighter like (Jon) Jones and Stipe (Miocic), they beat him again.”

“I’d destroy him in my prime,” Tim Sylvia explained. “If we fought right now he beats me, but in my prime, if we could go back in time and I’m in my prime, he’s in his prime, I destory him. He’s too wild. I was more of a technical striker than he is.”
