The mandatory Reebok sponsorship salaries for UFC fighters continues to look bad on paper, as the fighter who lost in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 99 event took home twice as much as the next largest earner, as he earned double what both Gegard Mousasi and Urijah Hall, the two headliners of the event, were paid.

The Reebok system is set up in a way that compensates veterans of the promotion the greatest, regardless of almost any factors such as rankings or the actual performance they put on inside the Octagon, but instead rewarding them for their longevity in the sport and the top level.

A good example of the system and how it may seem fair at a glance when no specific fighters or dollar amounts are attached, but completely out-of-whack when those factors are added to the mix, is the UFC Fight Night 99 event from Belfast, Northern Ireland from Saturday afternoon.

As seen in the figures below, which come courtesy of MMAJunkie.com, Ross Pearson took home $20,000 in sponsorship money from Reebok in a losing effort, as he was defeated by Stevie Ray in the co-main event. Meanwhile, event headliners Gegard Mousasi and Urijah Hall both earned the same amount from the Reebok sponsorship deal, as the two pocketed $10,000, exactly half of what Pearson earned, despite a number of factors.

Featured below are the UFC Fight Night 99 Reebok sponsorship salaries for all of the fighters who competed on the card that aired live on UFC Fight Pass from the SSE Arena.

After his picking up his fourth straight victory, three by way of KO or TKO and all in 2016, with his win over Urijah Hall in their rematch on Saturday night, Gegard Mousasi has his sights set on a big fight the next time he steps into the Octagon.

At the official UFC Fight Night 99 post-fight press conference on Saturday evening after his win over Hall in the main event of the show held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mousasi noted that he hopes to fight one of three men next: Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz or Luke Rockhold.

For each potential high-profile fighter Mousasi has a different reason why he feels they would make for a good opponent. In the case of Anderson Silva, it appears to simply be a case of wanting to fight and beat “The Spider,” widely considered the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter of all-time and easily the best Middleweight Champion in UFC history. For Nick Diaz, he mentioned it being a good “Super Fight,” indicating that it is a fight that fans would like to see regardless of what it means to a particular weight class, and likely because fighting either Diaz right now would result in a lot of eyeballs on your match. Finally, Mousasi mentioned Rockhold because he feels he would be a good opponent to face to earn the right to fight for the UFC Middleweight Championship, which the Team AKA fighter recently held before being upset by the current title-holder, Michael Bisping.

“Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz as a super fight, that’s a great fight for me; but to get to a title shot, maybe Luke Rockhold,” Mousasi said when asked the usual post-fight question regarding who he would like to fight in his next Octagon appearance.

Mousasi continued, “It depends on UFC. If they give me top-10, top-15, No. 2, I’ll take the fight as long as they give me the next title shot. I’m ready to take anyone.”

There was a ton of mixed martial arts action this weekend, as the UFC hosted two cards yesterday (Nov. 19, 2016), while Bellator hosted one of their own as well. UFC Fight Night 99 took place first from Belfast Ireland, while UFC Fight Night 100 and Bellator 165 took place in the evening.

UFC Belfast was headlined by a rematch between Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall, while UFC Fight Night 100 was headlined by a rematch between Ryan Bader and Antonio Nogueira. Bellator 165, on the other hand, played host to a lightweight title fight between Michael Chandler and Benson Henderson.

Let’s take a look at the biggest winners and losers from this weekend’s events:

Winner: Ryan Bader

Ryan Bader’s rematch with Antonio Nogueira in the main event of last night’s UFC Fight Night 100 from Brazil marked the last fight on his current contract with the UFC, and he made a statement for sure, stopping “Lil’ Nog” in the third round of their bout.

With the win, Bader kept himself relevant within the scarce 205-pound division and gave himself leverage in terms of free agency. Coming off of an impressive victory, “Darth” may have an easier time negotiating with the UFC, and if not, he may be able to find himself a lucrative deal with another promotion.

Former Strikeforce and DREAM champion Gegard Mousasi returned last night in Belfast, facing an old rival and demons of a brutal loss. Against the touted ‘Boogie Man’ of the division Uriah Hall, ‘The Dreamcatcher’ looked dominant. Having been spectacularly knocked out by ‘U-Hall’ in September 2015, the Armenian was looking to put that highlight reel demolition behind him. In a flawless performance, Mousasi shut down Hall early with a grounded TKO win. ‘U-Hall’ is without a win since that KO over Mousasi, and has now lost three straight.

Now looking at big fights against top flight competition, Mousasi has four straight victories under his belt. Arguably looking his best ever last nigh, and before that against Thiago Santos and Vitor Belfort, Mousasi is close to fulfilling his true potential. What’s next for the 49-fight veteran from Holland after his impressive win in Belfast? There are some fights that need to happen to free up the top five, but also some interesting opponents already available.

Speaking during the post-fight press conference, the victorious Gegard Mousasi had some fights in mind. Included on that list was popular Stockton bad boy Nick Diaz. Check it out:

“Uriah won that first fight fair and square. I have to respect that he gave me a rematch, but now it’s behind me. I’m tired of that stupid highlight of him putting that kick in my face. I can put it behind me now, and I look forward to a title shot soon. Anderson Silva or Nick Diaz as a superfight that’s a great fight for me. Maybe Luke Rockhold, it depends on the UFC. If they give me top 10, top 15, number two, that’s fine as long as they give me a title shot as the next fight.”

Middleweight Mix

With all the madness in the UFC middleweight division over the last year, Gegard Mousasi makes a great addition to the title mix. Yoel Romero is targeted for a mid-2017 title fight, so perhaps Mousasi’s next fight, should he win, would work well with the rankings and timings. Jacare Souza, Luke Rockhold, or maybe even Nick Diaz, that’s some fun fights whichever happens.
