The 5 times ADCC champion, Gordon Ryan, responds to fans doubting his technical abilities after offering his coaching services to Conor McGregor.

The Irish superstar, Conor McGregor is set to make his UFC return later this year. But first, he will be appearing on the famed MMA television show, The Ultimate Fighter. McGregor already has had experience coaching on the show as he famously coached against Urijah Faber in 2015. This time around, he will be coaching against top Lightweight contender, Michael Chandler. As McGregor busies himself, finding his coaching team for the latest season, BJJ ace, Gordon Ryan threw his hat in the ring and offered his Jiu-Jitsu services

Gordon Ryan responds to fans questioning his technical abilities

Gordon Ryan’s offer to coach did not sit well with a few fans. One critique against Ryan has been the lack of drug testing in BJJ competitions, which has resulted in fans crediting his dominance in Jiu-Jitsu to possible performance-enhancing drugs.

However, Gordon Ryan is known for responding to his critiques whenever he can and after enough negative responses came to his post, Ryan had to set the record straight by posting the following.

“You realize I’m universally recognized as the most technical competitor of all time, right?” (H/T EssentiallySports)

There is plenty of truth in Ryan’s statement as he’s considered to be at the forefront of BJJ innovation, alongside his coach, John Danaher. But, if McGregor fails to take Ryan up on his offer, it likely won’t be because of Ryan’s skill and technique.

Instead, Gordon Ryan has had a very public back-and-forth with Dillon Danis for years and Danis was previously McGregor’s BJJ coach. So, that’s likely to weigh heavily on McGregor’s decision as he often speaks out on the importance of being loyal.

Jon Jones may be the most skilled mixed martial artist that the sport has ever seen.

What can easily be forgotten about when it comes to the skills that “Bones” brings to the table is his high-level grappling which he rarely uses.

For the majority of his run in the light heavyweight division, Jones chose to strike with opponents instead which shows how well-rounded he is.

Fans did get another quick glimpse at his grappling ability in his heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane, where he was able to quickly secure a takedown and guillotine submission to become world champion in another weight class.

With all of this being said, large sections of the MMA fanbase haven’t been willing to give Jones his flowers as of late due to the ongoing conversation around him and the interim champion, Tom Aspinall.

MMA Fans React As Jon Jones Holds His Own With Gordon Ryan

A recent video on social media showed yet another look at Jones’ high-level grappling as he mixed it up on the mats with Gordon Ryan.

As well as being a big and powerful athlete, Ryan is one of the best jiu-jitsu competitors ever and at least in this clip, “Bones” is able to hold his own.

As is the case with everything that Jones posts as of late, many of the replies underneath were in reference to a potential fight with Aspinall, which fans have been very outspoken about.

Whilst some believe that this fight is to make instead of having him return against Stipe Miocic, others have sided with the heavyweight champion and believe that the Aspinall hype train has gotten out of hand.

“And people act like he won’t do this to Aspinall in a f***in heartbeat”

“BREAKING NEWS Dana White’s burner account gets leaked under the account name ‘blonded’”

“I realized after he cooked Gane”

“People don’t realize how small Gordon Ryan is compared to Tom Aspinall.”

“Jones would beat Aspinall easily. Respect the GOAT”

“No way you think Gordon Ryan was actually trying???”

“I don’t wanna hear anybody saying Aspinall beats him”

All-time Jiu-jitsu great Gordon Ryan is seemingly happy to stick with just grappling for now.

Although Gordon Ryan is widely considered the greatest ever no-Gi grappler, many wonder how the American would do inside the cage. The five-time ADCC champion is fresh off yet another impressive win against Nick Rodriguez as part of the UFC Fight Pass Invitational stretching his undefeated streak to over five years.

Talking with Ariel Helwani as part of The MMA hour, Gordon Ryan expressed his interest in competing in MMA and revealed that he did begin the preparation process at one point.

I was actually going to start fighting in 2019. I was actually getting ready,” Ryan began. “I was sparring. I was actually getting ready. I went to a Bellator event and I was talking to some guys from Bellator. I was talking to ONE about fighting MMA and then in 2019, right in the beginning of the year, I fought Joao Gabriel Rocha and I tore my LCL. I had to have surgery on my LCL. So the second I came back from LCL surgery, the focus wasn’t MMA anymore. I was hopping into camp for ADCC because we had 2019 ADCC at the end of the year.”

Ryan would continue, saying that he is comfortable money he earns from Jiu-Jitsu is more than most UFC champions, explaining that his position is too comfortable to leave at the moment.

So like seven months off surgery”, Ryan said. “I had to compete in ADCC so that was the focus, and then I won the Absolute so now I’m looking forward to 2021 ADCC where I have to fight Andre [Galvao] which ended up being 2022. I just kept getting roped back into jiu-jitsu like, ‘Oh, there’s something more I have to do in jiu-jitsu before I leave.’ Now I’m at a point where I don’t have to leave. I make more money than most UFC champions and there’s no reason for me to get punched in the head every day and then have to fight.” (H/T MiddleEasy)

At only 27 year-old, Ryan has plenty of time to switch over to MMA should he so choose. Such a move would be huge and with his grappling ability seemingly so far ahead of his competition at the moment, Ryan could prove to be an exciting addition to the scene.

Gordan Ryan believes Dillon Danis ‘fell apart’ when he began training with Conor McGregor

Following victory over Nick Rodriguez at UFC Fight Pass Invitational III, Gordon Ryan was called up to appear on the MMA Hour, a combat sports show on YouTube hosted by 13-time Journalist of the Year Ariel Helwani.

Gordon Ryan took this opportunity to tear into his Jiu-Jitsu rival, Dillon Danis, who, despite being a highly credentialed martial artist, has done absolutely nothing of note in well over three years. Nonetheless, Danis has managed to stay in the limelight and is continued to be talked about as a hot topic.

Ryan had the following to say in regards to his fellow BJJ black belt:

“He was pretty well respected as a brown belt. He won a lot of things at brown belt and he was a big prospect at black belt, and then he had the falling out with Marcelo (Garcia). And then once he kind of got in with McGregor, that’s when he started to fall apart. His popularity skyrocketed, but his career kind of fell apart from there.”

Everyone thinks that he’s this badass. Well, I’ve been dying to actually say this on a big podcast, Dillon Danis has a record in jiu-jitsu since (receiving his) black belt of 18 wins and 16 losses. He’s not nearly as good at jiu-jitsu as people think he is.

“The thing about Dillon is he’s an absolute master at managing to stay relevant without actually doing anything combat related.

“I don’t know how he does it, but he does it and props to him. His family must have money, because he doesn’t do anything to generate revenue. He doesn’t have sponsors, if you look at his Instagram, he doesn’t teach, he doesn’t compete. I don’t know how he’s not homeless. He must have an inheritance or something, but he manages to stay relevant.”

Dillon Danis hasn’t competed in a grappling tournament since 2017, where he went out on a defeat. Furthermore, he’s actually 1-6 in his last seven BJJ matches, and 2-7 in his last nine. Aside from that, he fought in MMA on two separate occasions; once in April of 2018, and once in June of 2019, where he secured first round submission victories in both appearances under the Bellator banner.

Since then however, he hasn’t competed a single time, in anything.

In contrast, Ryan has competed in 36 BJJ matches since Danis’ last fight in MMA, winning all of them, 31 of which via submission, and he’s won four world championship gold medals in Danis’ absence.

Is Gordon Ryan right, should Dillon Danis have to continue earning his relevance?

Gordon Ryan sarcastically offered Dillon Danis a job during the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3 press conference.

Grappling kingpin, Gordon Ryan emerged victorious during his Fight Pass Invitational grappling matchup against Nick Rodriguez. Ryan was able to secure his victory via the fastest escape and following this spoke to the combat sports media.

Specifically, Ryan was asked about former rival Dillon Danis with the ‘MMA fighter’ scheduled to face internet sensation KSI in a boxing match taking place in 2023. This is what Ryan had to say about his previous opponent.

“He’s a master at staying relevant without actually doing anything, it’s incredible,” Gordon Ryan said. “I’ve offered him like 10-to-1 odds, I’ve offered him to compete against Luke for 2-to-1 odds, I’ve offered him every kind of match and he’ll post the 2017 ADCC match every now and then and be like, ‘See, I beat the best guy in the world.”

“Hopefully he’s getting paid. He actually randomly messages me on Instagram all the time at like 2am, he’s gotta be like drunk or whatever. He sent like a clip the other day of Chael Sonnen [saying] ‘Dillon Danis is the real deal, he went toe-to-toe with Gordon in 2017 and Gordon won the world championships’ — like out of nowhere, completely unsolicited.”

Danis has not competed inside an octagon since 2019 when he defeated fellow novice Max Humphrey via armbar in the first round. Now it seems a return to the octagon has become even more unlikely with his recently announced boxing affair.

Gordon Ryan Offers Dillon Danis A Job Washing His Cars

Danis has not competed in any facet of combat sports for quite some time and therefore it is understandable why Gordon Ryan perceived his boxing matchup with KSI as having been scheduled for him to earn a payday. However, should Danis fall on hard times Ryan has kindly offered him the opportunity to work under him washing his cars.

“I’m like, ‘Great Dillon, I hope you’re getting paid for this.’ He’s like, ‘I run the game kid, don’t forget this.’ I’m like okay, if it doesn’t work out and you don’t make that much money, I have tons of cars you can clean those for me,” Gordon continued. “I have like five cars to clean and if you want to clean those I’ll give you thirty bucks a week or something for those. And he never responded. Hopefully he’s making a lot of money. Hopefully he doesn’t end up homeless. He manages to stay relevant but it’s hard to stay relevant when you don’t compete.” (Transcribed by MMAMania)

Former UFC competitor Vinny Magalhaes will no longer compete against submission grappling superstar Gordon Ryan on Friday night.

Magalhaes was slated to appear at the Fight Pass Invitational 3 event streaming exclusively on UFC Fight Pass to compete in a submission grappling match with Ryan. With Magalhaes’ withdrawal from the contest, reportedly due to medical issues, Gordon Ryan’s former Danaher Death Squad teammate Nick Rodriguez will step into the main event spot.

“Unfortunately Vinny is out due to some medical issues,” Ryan said in a post on Instagram. “Hopefully he heals up. The replacement for him will be Nicky Rod versus myself in the headliner. That’s tomorrow night only on UFC Fight Pass at the Fight Pass Invitational.”

Nick Rodriguez Happy to Accept Short-Notice Match With Gordon Ryan

Nick Rodriguez was originally scheduled to compete in the absolute tournament, but with his promotion to the main event, Luke Griffith will take his spot.

“This morning the phone rings, I pick up, UFC calls me they’re like ‘Yo, Vinny Magalhaes pulls out, we need you to step in,’” Rodriguez said. “I tell them, ‘I’m the man. Let’s make it happen.’ So I pull out of the tournament, I hop in the super fight against Gordon Ryan, so now main event is Nicky Rod vs. Gordon Ryan. It’s gonna be epic.”

Gordon Ryan and Nick Rodriguez are no strangers to one another. The pair previously met in September at the ADCC Submission Fight World Championship with Ryan scoring a submission victory.
