UFC welterweight standout Randy Brown believes Nate Diaz will get “destroyed” inside the squared circle with social media sensation Jake Paul.
After 15 years of competing inside the Octagon, Nate Diaz will make his highly anticipated pro boxing debut as the Stockton Samurai is set to square off with Jake Paul inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas on August 5. Despite having one of the more celebrated stand-up games in mixed martial arts, Diaz is listed as a +245 underdog a month before the bout is scheduled to go down. According to Randy Brown, those odds sound about right based on Diaz’s skill set versus that of his opponent.
“I think Nate Diaz doesn’t have great boxing, I think he has great elements of boxing, I think there’s things that he incorporates well from boxing in his game and he has great drop punches because he carries his hands very high so there’s no tell and then he just drops them on you,” Brown told InsideFighting.

Jake Paul is currently 6-1 in his career as a professional boxer. Most of those victories have come against non-boxers, including former NBA star Nate Robinson and ex-MMA world champions Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Anderson Silva. His lone loss came against the one legitimate boxer he has faced in his career, Tommy Fury.
With an undeniably solid record against former UFC stars, many fight fans, including Randy Brown, aren’t giving Nate Diaz much of a chance when he straps on the 10-ounce gloves for a scrap with ‘The Problem Child.’
“I think he [Diaz] gets destroyed in a boxing match. Jake Paul is a boxer by this point, we have to give credit where credit is due and he’s a boxer,” Brown said. “He might not be an extremely high-level boxer but at this point, he’s boxing primarily you know that’s where he spends most of his time whereas a lot of MMA fighters we have to split our time between so many different things. It’s been a few years now, realistically I look at him now as a really good amateur” (h/t MMA News).
Making his promotional debut on season five of The Ultimate Fighter, Nate Diaz went 16-11 during his 15-year run with the UFC. Diaz has gone toe-to-toe with some of the biggest lightweights in the history of the sport, including Anthony Pettis, ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, Gray Maynard, Jim Miller, Takanori Gomi, Benson Henderson, Rafael dos Anjo, and Rory MacDonald. Former boxing world champion, Paulie Malignaggi, backs Jake Paul to trouble Conor McGregor in a potential MMA fight.
Since Paul has made his transition to combat, he has desperately attempted to entice McGregor into a fight. The American seems to take every opportunity to criticise and goad the former UFC champion.
Jake Paul is set to take on McGregor’s long-standing rival, Nate Diaz in a boxing match on August 5 but has also expressed interest in also taking to MMA after signing with PFL earlier this year.
Paulie Malignaggi, another detractor of McGregor, spoke to the chances of Jake Paul if he were to face McGregor inside the cage. Malignaggi and McGregor very publicly feuded after the latter released sparring footage in the build up for his fight with Floyd Mayweather. The video shows McGregor knocking down the ‘Magic Man’, appearing to get the better of him – something which the junior welter and welterweight champion disputes.
“Jake has a high school wrestler background, so he would not be totally out of his element in the cage,” said Malignaggi. “He’d need to be alert to his kicks, but McGregor (has) absolutely no balls. If you make him just a little bit uncomfortable, you are going to put yourself in a position where you might win the fight.
“You can make him uncomfortable by beating on him, or if he’s beating on you, if you just hang in the fight he begins to get nervous and paranoid. He’s not a true fighter,” he continued. “He looks for the first window to jump out of. He’s got athletic ability but his anxiety levels get high. That’s why he gets so tired in fights. “Jake just needs the ability to hang in there and he can start to trouble him a little. He can put himself in the position to win the fight. I think McGregor’s boxing is brutally bad, but at this point, even in MMA, if you hang with him he will get uncomfortable,” Malignaggi concluded.

Former UFC welterweight contender and lightweight title challenger, Nate Diaz, as well as professional boxer, Jake Paul, have agreed to a change in their August professional boxing match in Dallas, Texas – with their initially slated eight round limit, now awaiting approval to be revamped to a 10 round limit.
According to an initial report from ESPN reporter, Marc Raimondi, Nate Diaz had requested for their August boxing match to be extended to a 10 round limit rather than an initially slated eight round limit, with Paul following suit and also agreeing. The Texas Combative Sports Program is now set to weigh up the request for approval to boot.
“Nate Diaz has requested his fight with Jake Paul be extended from eight round to 10 rounds and Paul has agreed to the change, both teams confirmed with ESPN,” Raimondi tweeted. “They are now waiting on approval from the Texas Combative Sports Program.” #PaulDiaz
Slated to make his long-awaited professional boxing debut, Diaz, the victor of The Ultimate Fighter 5, will take on Ohio puncher, Paul in a middleweight fight at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on August 5. next.
Most recently competing in combat sports back in September of last year atop a UFC 279 pay-per-view card, Diaz turned in a stunning fourth round win over former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson, submitting the Oxnard native with a guillotine choke late in the penultimate frame.
As for Paul, the outspoken YouTuber and social media influencer has yet to return to professional boxing since he suffered his first loss in a split decision defeat to Tommy Fury – the half-brother of current WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury back in February in Saudi Arabia, dropping to 6-1 as a professional as a result.

However, the video appears blatantly staged, something Jake Paul has been known to do with other notable names in the combat sports industry.

“Okay, so apparently Masvidal showed up to the Betr warehouse,” Paul says into the camera before venturing outside to confront ‘Gamebred’ in the parking lot. “Why are you trying to cause trouble?” Paul asks. “Nah, it’s my city,” Masvidal replies.
“It’s your city? So, you own this right here?” Paul asks, pointing to the ground. “You’ve been saying a lot on Ariel Helwani.”
“What’d I say?” Masvidal asked. “You called me a punk b*tch,” Paul responded.
Like Jake Paul’s confrontation with boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, the entire conflict was staged, operating as an advertisement for a YouTube video Paul and Masvidal filmed together which is scheduled to drop at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, June 8.

Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal have lobbed insults at one another over the years, but it appears that the two men have since buried the hatchet. Of course, it’s altogether possible that there never was any heat between the two and the men were simply engaging in a mutually beneficial rivalry to stay in the limelight. Considering Masvidal helped Paul train for his 2021 bout against Ben Askren, we’re going to go ahead and assume it’s the latter.
