During a recent episode of the Kill Tony podcast, live at the Comedy Mothership in Austin, Texas, former UFC icon Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone made a special guest appearance. The 41-year old has recently declared that he plans to return to the Octagon after retiring in July of 2022.

Cerrone was without a win in his last seven fights but the Hall of Famer, who was inducted in 2023, still has a couple bouts left on his contract and considering that he’s fought 38 times in the UFC, rounding that up to 40 is something he wants to tick off.

Fighting out of his contract would also allow Cerrone to pursue other options away from the UFC and this is why he was brought out on stage in the first place. “Cowboy” came through the curtain after it was said that there was someone backstage that had a message for Jake Paul.

After receiving a warm welcome from the fans inside the building, he laid out his current plans for the future which could involve “The Problem Child” once his UFC obligations are fulfilled.

“I mean if the guy wants to come to MMA, I’ll gladly whip his f****** a** but I am coming out of retirement and I have two more fights on our contract so I want 40 UFC fights, that’s the number so I have two before July to get done and then I’m gonna go out there and give it hell and if Jake wants to jump in line for the a** whipping train, he can jump on and give me all the money.”

Cerrone was then asked by Tony Hinchcliffe whether he would step into boxing to face Paul like several other MMA fighters like Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz have. He declined this offer, having the self awareness to know that the fight wouldn’t go well for him in this field.

“No I’m f****** terrible at boxing, I have no head movement. I need to take him down and whip his a**.”

Jake Paul Over Floyd Mayweather? Ex-Champ Says YouTube Star Revived Boxing While Floyd Made it a Circus

Is Jake Paul responsible for boxing’s recent revival?

Probably not, but he’s certainly doing a better job of it than undefeated icon Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. At least, that’s what former WBA light middleweight world champion Austin Trout thinks.

During a recent appearance on Inside Fighting’s FIGHT SZN, the reigning BKFC welterweight titleholder suggested that despite all the vitriol being spewed at him, ‘The Problem Child’ is actually doing something positive for the sport of boxing while Mayweather is running around the world making a mockery out of it.

Jake Paul

“For instance, what is killing boxing is still killing boxing: Floyd Mayweather. The circus that he’s putting on doesn’t have an ounce of real boxing in it,” Trout said.

Whereas, as I said before, Jake Paul gave us two Fight of the Year candidates, some record-breaking purses, and record-breaking views for some real boxing. His fights specifically maybe were not “real boxing,” but they were coupled with some real shots and real fights. We got to see some great up-and-comers, some well-established unified champions, and everything in between.

A Floyd Mayweather fight, where it’s him versus Gotti, you know, it’s just a circus up and down. There’s no real boxing. The only person that makes any money is Floyd Mayweather. You know, that’s not what’s helping boxing out at all, right? That’s what’s draining the game and giving it a bad name.”

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson > Mayweather vs. JG3

To be fair, Jake Paul’s fights have become legitimate events — the most recent being his eight-round clash with Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Though the fight itself didn’t exactly set the world on fire, more than 70,000 people paid for a ticket to the event and over 100 million people streamed the card, making it one of the most watched events in combat sports history.

Jake Paul

Meanwhile, Mayweather is months removed from his rematch against John Gotti III after their first fight ended in an abrupt disqualification followed by a massive brawl between the two corners.

Their sequel scrap in Mexico City went off without a hitch, but failed to generate any of the excitement they got from their first fight — even if it was for all the wrong reasons.

King’ Ryan Garcia has challenged the YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul to a match and is certain he can knock him out in the ring.

Ryan Garcia vs. Jake Paul

The American-Mexican boxer Ryan Garcia was a promising up-and-comer with a tremendous lead hook in boxing but has found himself in hot water for the past few years. He briefly held the WBC interim lightweight title in 2021. Despite his success in the ring, Garcia has faced personal challenges, including using offensive slurs on social media, and a recent suspension due to a failed drug test.

His next fight will be an exhibition against the much larger Rukiya Anpo in Rizin booked for New Year’s Eve. Last year, the kickboxing champion out-struck boxing legend Manny Pacquiao in an exhibition. Ryan Garcia feels he is avenging this loss. In an interview with Ariel Helwani, he explained:

“I was invited by Rizin to watch the Manny Pacquiao fight … And then I saw this dude, way bigger than Manny Pacquiao and way younger, just beating up—or trying to beat up—on him, going like haymakers the whole fight, just being obnoxious in the ring. And I was like, “Oh my God, dude, like, if they give me a chance, I’ll knock this dude out.” And then I guess the talk started there, and yeah, that kind of intrigued me to go, ’cause he was trying to beat up on Manny Pacquiao.

In Rizin, Ryan Garcia will look to get revenge for Pacquiao against Anpo. Additionally, he would like to avenge Mike Tyson’s loss to Jake Paul. In the same interview, Garcia added:

People are asking me to fight Jake Paul. Which I got to give people what they want. I genuinely believe I would knock him out within four or five rounds … I know we’re cool, we’re cool for sure, but, you know, he was trying to beat up on Uncle Mike. You know, like I said, the same way I feel about Manny Pacquiao, same way I feel about this.

Some potential issues with the match are that Jake Paul has a 100 lbs advantage and Golden Boy Promotions is protesting any fights with Ryan Garcia. But, money talks.

Was Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Fixed? MVP Addresses Skepticism After Boxing Fight

Jake Paul’s company Most Valuable Promotions is snapping back at allegations that his fight with Mike Tyson was rigged.

Earlier this month, ‘The Problem Child’ danced his way to an uneventful unanimous decision victory over the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ in front of 72,000 fans inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Though it was one of the most watched combat sports events of all time — netting a reported 108 million streamers — many were frustrated with what the highly anticipated headliner delivered.

Immediately following the bout, Paul revealed that he had taken his foot off the gas pedal once he realized that the 58-year-old Tyson was running out of steam. That has led some fight fans to suggest that the whole thing was rigged — an accusation Paul has become quite familiar with in recent years.

Responding to the claim, MVP released a statement attempting to quell the accusations that Paul vs. Tyson was anything but a legitimate boxing match.

“MVP would like to set the record straight regarding the contractual agreements and the nature of the fight,” the statement read. “Rigging a profesisional boxing match is a federal crime in the United States of America. Paul vs Tyson was a professional match sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR).

“Both fighters in good faith performed to the best of their abilities with the goal of winning the fight. There were absolutely no restrictions — contractual or otherwise — around either fighter. Each boxer was able to use his full arsenal to win the fight. Any agreement to the contrary would violate TDLR boxing rules” (h/t Irish Independent).

Aside from bringing in a record-breaking audience worldwide on Netflix, ticket revenue for the event reportedly topped $18 million, putting it on par with Floyd Mayweather’s iconic clash against Oscar De La Hoya in May 2007.

“Trash talk and speculation are common in sports, and athletes and promoters need to tolerate nonsensical commentary, jokes, and opinions,” the statement continued. “But suggesting anything other than full effort from these fighters is not only naive but an insult to the work they put into their craft and to the sport itself.

“It is further illogical and inane that MVP, in the debut of a hopeful long-term partnership with the world’s biggest streamer — an organization that made its first-ever foray into live professional sports with Paul vs Tyson — would even so much as consider such a perverse violation of the rules of competition.”

Jake Paul’s business partner comments on rigging allegations

With the win over Tyson, Jake Paul is 11-1 in his boxing career, his lone loss coming against Tommy Fury in February 2023. Fury believes a rematch with ‘El Gallo’ is inevitable, but there are plenty of other fighters coming out of the woodwork to end Paul’s impressive run — Daniel Dubois, Artur Beterbiev, and even Francis Ngannou, to name a few.

Paul’s business partner Nakisa Bidarian offered her take on the slew of accusations levied against Paul in recent years, chalking it up to one simple sentiment — haters gonna hate.

“This is not the first time Jake Paul has faced unfounded skepticism or outright disbelief as a professional athlete, and frankly, the claim that his bout must have been rigged is just the latest backhanded compliment to come his way,” Bidarian said.

“From day one in this sport, people have doubted his abilities — unable to reconcile how someone with his background has accomplished so much in such a short time. Jake has not only proven himself repeatedly, but he has continuously set historic records that speak for themselves. This event, which broke attendance and viewership milestones for a professional sporting event, is yet another example of his ability to deliver on the biggest stage.

“As long as Jake continues to exceed expectations, there will always be those who try to discredit his achievements. We embrace the doubt — it only fuels Jake to work harder and achieve greater success.”

Netflix hit with $50 million class-action lawsuit over Paul vs. Tyson streaming struggles

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson was a massive success for Netflix, bringing in more than 108 million live viewers around the world. Unfortunately, a lot of those viewers weren’t actually able to watch the fight as it unfolded.

According to the website Downdetector, 500,000 complaints were lodged from people having streaming issues on Netflix long before Tyson and Paul were scheduled to make their walks for one of the most anticipated boxing matches of the last decade.

Adding insult to injury was Netflix’s social media channels which completely ignored the issues half a million people were experiencing.

Netflix

Understandably frustrated, a Florida man named Ronald ‘Blue’ Denton filed a breach of contract lawsuit in Hillsborough County on Monday. TMZ was the first to report the lawsuit.

“60 million Americans were hyped to see ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ versus Youtuber-turner-prizefighter Jake Paul. What they saw was ‘The Baddest Streaming on Planet,’” reads the lawsuit.

The class-action suit is seeking more than $50 million, saying Netflix failed to deliver on the services it promised.

“Netflix customers experienced massive streaming issues and should have known better because it’s happened before. They were woefully ill-prepared,” the suit states (h/t FOX 5).

Netflix isn’t the only one catching heat following Paul vs. tyson

Of course, those who were able to watch the fight were left infuriated for a completely different reason.

Paul vs. Tyson failed to deliver the fireworks that both fighters had promised in the weeks leading up to their scrap. Instead of giving everyone a highlight-reel knockout, or even a spirited back-and-forth contest, the fight just sort of plodded along for eight rounds.

Netflix

“They had no intentions to really scrap at all,” three-time Super Bowl champion Michael Irvin said on the It Is What It Is podcast. “If you look through that, I didn’t see one patented uppercut by Mike Tyson. What if Mike Tyson hit him with an uppercut? Then I heard some people talking about they put that in the contract. He couldn’t body and then uppercut. Like, how can you put that in a fight contract?

“You got all these people out here, and he couldn’t body him and do that patented uppercut. All of that is Mike Tyson is not Mike Tyson anyway, and now you taking away Mike Tyson’s best gift, which was that uppercut. Man, that’s a big lie to me. That’s like making me play a game without running a slant route in the deep end or the deep out. You do what you do best. If they take that away you not that dude anymore, and they took that away.”

Perhaps fight fans were better served by not being able to watch Paul vs. Tyson. Sadly, many of those same viewers also missed the epic rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano in the evening’s co-main event.
