When YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul does finally enter the cage for his first taste of mixed martial arts action, it’ll be against a “very, very credible” opponent.

That’s according to Professional Fighters League CEO Peter Murray, who recently addressed Paul’s long-discussed planned venture to the multifaceted sport, which was promised when the ex-Disney star signed with the PFL 20 months ago.

Thus far into his combat sports tenure, “The Problem Child” has made a splash in the ring, largely by getting the better of veteran MMA fighters like Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, and Tyron Woodley.

2024 has seen his focus remain on boxing, and after defeating BKFC star Mike Perry this past June, Paul is set to close out his year by headlining the first live combat sports event to be broadcast on Netflix opposite legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson.

With that, a crossover to MMA has slipped from the surface. But the PFL evidently remains confident of that coming to fruition. If and when it does, the promotion doesn’t plan on having Paul face a low-level foe…

Peter Murray Provides Update On Jake Paul’s MMA Venture: ‘Not Easy To Cross Over…’

During an interview with Sportskeeda MMA, Murray briefly spoke about the status of Paul’s MMA plans, insisting that the Cleveland native remains committed to testing his skills inside the SmartCage.

When he does, many appear to be expecting “The Problem Child” to throw down with a fighter of similar inexperience when it comes to MMA. But Murray dismissed that notion, instead stating that Paul will face “credible” competition from the jump.

“(There’s) plenty of options…and Jake is committed to fighting a very, very credible, well-rounded MMA fighter, and (it’s) not easy to do,” Murray said. “Not easy to cross over from boxing into MMA. You know, the crossover from MMA or other disciplines into boxing is a lot easier.”

Paul has posted comments and footage related to MMA training on social media for a number of years. But although a signing with the PFL in January 2023 appeared set to pave the way for a debut in the sport that year, “The Problem Child’s” combat sports action remains isolated to the ring as it stands.

Famed boxing trainer Teddy Atlas recently compared Jake Paul to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Not so much based on their boxing skills but instead focusing on their business proficiency.

While speaking on his podcast ‘THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas,’ the boxing trainer explained:

“He’s almost been an understudy of the great Floyd Mayweather, really, and that’s a positive thing. We’re not talking about as a fighter. We’re talking about in this business, as a businessman, as a matchmaker, as a manager, just as a smart calculated man. Jake Paul has been every bit of Floyd Mayweather.”

Teddy Atlas on Jake Paul’s dedication to boxing

Jake Paul is a YouTuber who has become a professional boxer worth tens of millions of dollars. Teddy Atlas is impressed with ‘The Problem Child’ being able to dedicate himself to the pugilistic form of combat. Teddy Atlas said:

“Floyd was very smart in picking his opponents and just a genius businessman, and Jake Paul is very smart at picking opponents, and he’s a genius businessman. Give him credit. Give him credit, d**nit. It’s the American way. I don’t have a problem with him because he went, got a trainer, he worked his backside off to become the best fighter he could, and he’s still doing it.”

On Jake Paul’s in-ring skills, Atlas said:

“He’s still trying to get better. He’s never gonna be a world-class fighter. We understand that, but he’s gonna be the best he can be, and he’s trying to be the best he can be. He respected the sport enough to go about it the right way. Yeah, he’s careful picking [his opponents], but there’s still risk. There’s still risk. He deserves respect. There’s still a risk when he gets into that freakin’ ring. He’s getting in there with real people that throw real punches.” [Transcript courtesy of Middle Easy]

Jake Paul will next face Tommy Fury on February 26 from Saudi Arabia.

Jake Paul Dana White UFC

Undefeated professional boxer, Jake Paul has reacted to recent footage that emerged which shows UFC president and polarizing leader, Dana White, slapping his wife, Anne White, during a physical altercation between the two on New Year’s Eve last during a vacation in Mexico.

Paul, who currently boasts an undefeated 6-0 professional record, is scheduled to return to the squared circle next month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – tackling the fellow undefeated puncher, Tommy Fury – the half-brother of WBC heavyweight best, Tyson Fury over the course of eight rounds.

Last time out, Ohio native, Paul headlined a Showtime Pay-Per-View card against former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, scoring a unanimous decision victory after also dropping the Brazilian veteran in the eighth and final round.

Jake Paul comments on Dana White’s altercation with his wife

Ahead of his upcoming return against Fury on February 26. – Paul shared his thoughts on White’s physical altercation with his wife, and while he admitted that he did not want to punch down amid the scrutiny White has received, he openly criticized the latter’s character.

“I know he had his whole situation but I don’t really need to kick people when they’re down,” Jake Paul told assembled media, including Sun Sport, ahead of his clash with Tommy Fury. “What he did speaks for itself and I’ve always said I don’t think he’s a good person: look how he treats these fighters.”

“I don’t know about the fans, the feud between Dana (White) and I has been a lot of hype and it draws a lot of media,” Jake Paul explained. “And there’s been a bunch of sh*t talked back and forth, but my main thing is getting the fighters paid more. Raising the fighter minimum [pay] to $50,000 whereas it’s at $12,000 now, getting them long-term healthcare. That’s what it’s mainly about.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

Off the back of the incident, White has avoided any official, public punishment from the UFC, or it’s parent owners, Endeavor. And claims that he will receive punishment by the criticizm and scrunity he will receive for the rest of his life and professional career.
