Lorenzo Hunt, Joe Riggs

Lorenzo Hunt came in with a surprise at the BKFC 24 ceremonial faceoffs when he smashed a half-eaten tomato in Joe Riggs’s face.

As an MMA fan, it’s not only the actual fight that gets us excited. It’s the thrill of the build-up as two opponents get ready to face each other in the cage. Weigh-ins, faceoffs, and press conferences are great ways for an athlete to promote their fight and increase the standing of their brand.

Ahead of the fight, light heavyweight champion Lorenzo Hunt found his opportunity to promote the event at the BKFC 24 ceremonial faceoffs. Squaring off against former UFC fighter and next title challenger Joe Riggs, Hunt came in with a robust weapon in his hand, a tomato.

Hunt walked up and began to nibble away at the plant before he smacked the half-eaten tomato right in Riggs’s face.

Props to the security and staff working the show for acting quickly. They separated the two fighters before the matter could escalate. Riggs was far from delighted with the strike as he yelled out “c*nt” in Hunt’s direction. The 39-year-old took joy in the exploits of his antics as he laughed at a distance from Riggs and put on a show for the audience.

Lorenzo Hunt infamous for wild antics

Lorenzo Hunt is going into his contest off a five-fight win streak that saw him dispatch Hector Lombard and Josh Dyer in bare-knuckle boxing matches. ‘The Juggernaut’ has become a provocative figure in the promotion who’s infamous for trashing his opponents.

Before his match with Lombard, Hunt walked up to the former champion and took his belt away as security made sure to maintain a distance between them. He proceeded to smash the belt on the floor prior to walking away with it.

After Lombard’s successful defense against Riggs, he was unable to complete his post-fight interview in the ring. Hunt took the chance to jump in and aggressively paced towards the former cruiserweight king who was having none of it. Being already infuriated with his actions from the presser, Lombard didn’t hesitate to take a swing at Hunt as he invaded his personal space.

Do you think Lorenzo Hunt will beat Joe Riggs tonight?

Joe Riggs

Ex-UFC middleweight contender and former WEC middleweight champion, Joe Riggs posted sparring footage of himself recently, taking on an unknown opponent who apparently donned himself as the “best bare knuckle boxer in the world”.

Riggs, an alum of the UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, Bellator, King of the Cage, and M-1 Global to name a few, last competed professionally in October of this year against UFC lightweight veteran, Melvin Guillard – stopping the New Orleans native with a one-sided opening minute knockout at BKFC Fight Night: Montana.

The 39-year-old Maine veteran boasts a 4-1-1 bare knuckle boxing record, competing five times under the aforenoted, David Feldman-led Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship banner.

In his promotional bow, the former UFC middleweight took a win over Brok Weaver, before taking a subsequent decision win against Heriberto Tovar. Rigg’s sole BKFC loss came against another ex-UFC middleweight, Hector Lombard in the form of a June doctor’s stoppage at BKFC 18.

Posting a video on his official Instagram this month, Riggs shares footage of his impromptu bare knuckle boxing match with the aforenoted “best bare knuckle boxer in the world” – in which he drops the man on at least six separate occasions over the course of the two-minute video.

When boys come to play with men,” Joe Riggs’ post read. “This guy came in day after day talking sh*t, saying he’s the best bareknuckle boxer in the world, we wanted to give him a taste of what he was asking for.

Joe Riggs boasts an extensive combat sports record, having competed for the likes of the UFC, WEC, and Bellator

A former WEC middleweight champion, Riggs bested Rob Kimmons with a first round submission to punches win at WEC 15 before making his move to the UFC in 2005.

During his run with the organization, Riggs landed victories against Chris Lytle, Nick Diaz, Jason Von Flue.

49-19 as a professional mixed martial artist, Riggs’ most recent outing came under the Ring of Combat banner back in November 2019 where he featured in an eventual ‘No Contest’ against George Sullivan.

Waylon Lowe’s Burnt Manhood

Ex-UFC fighter Waylon Lowe was competing for the World Series Of Fighting promotion back in 2013 when it merged that he was also embroiled in a legal battle with a sex shop and manufacturer over serious damage to his manhood.

Lowe reportedly used Kama Sutra Pleasure Balm Prolonging Gel prior to making love to his fiancee, but sometime later began experiencing excruciating pain and pressure in his penis, leaving it swollen and requiring medical attention.

According to the lawsuit, Lowe was left with permanent burns and scarring to his genitals, while to add to his woes he had also been experiencing erectile dysfunction since.

As such he proceeded to sue both ‘The Mood’ sex store in Philadelphia and the gel’s creator’s, Kama Sutra Co., for more than $50,000 in damages.

However, the company later spoke out to claim that nobody had ever experienced such a reaction to the gel in over 40 years of doing business.

MMA fighters are used to living life on the edge, knowing that every time they set foot in the cage they risk getting injured, knocked out or choked unconscious.

However, some of these battle-hardened warriors have gone far beyond that in their personal lives outside of the cage, finding themselves in truly terrifying situations where they have stared death straight in the face and yet somehow lived to tell the tale.

In this article we’ll explore 10 such stories, from near-fatal accidents to deadly altercations, not to mention several alarming incidents where it’s the fighters themselves who have been their own worst enemies.

Court McGee

Before he became an MMA fighter, Court McGee enjoyed drinking alcohol far too much for his own good.

It was a problem that got worse during his college years, but things really started to get out of hand when he broke his collarbone and clavicle in 2003 and then began mixing painkillers with the booze.

Over the next two years McGee would fall deeper into addiction, moving on to snorting crushed up Oxycontin, then cocaine, before finally turning to heroin as life began to completely fall apart.

One September 9th, 2005, McGee’s self-destructive behavior caught up with him and he overdosed on heroin, falling limp to the floor in the bathroom of his cousin’s trailer.

When paramedic’s arrived on scene they frantically tried to resuscitate McGee, whose heart would stop beating for eight minutes in total. It was only when an officer found a syringe that they realized he’d overdosed and were able to take the appropriate steps to bring him back to life.

Afterwards, McGee would spend six days in a coma and then had to undergo extensive rehabilitation to re-learn basic motor skills like walking.

Remarkably, just five months later McGee would relapse, emerging after a four-day binge with no pants on looking for a place to score meth.

That was the final straw and McGee sobered up soon after, got into recovery and found a sense of purpose in mixed martial arts, which would eventually lead to him fighting in the UFC, where he remains to this day.

VIDEO: Donald Cerrone Lassos Alex Oliveira, Claims Sole Ownership of “Cowboy” Nickname

While the triumphant freakshow that was Bellator 149 may be getting all the coverage, the UFC put on a decent little show of their own over the weekend. Though not without its fair share of unfortunate, injury-related withdrawals, Fight Night 83 wasn’t the worst night of fights by a long shot. And hey, no one almost died! (Too soon? Too soon.)

In the evening’s main event, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone dueled with late replacement Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira in the former’s first trip up to the welterweight division. Word had it that the loser of the match would have to change his nickname to “Ranch Hand” per a gentleman’s agreement made in the locker room, but that’s neither here nor there. In an effort to once again remind us that it’s not all head kicks and “fuck you kicks” when it comes to Donald Cerrone, the former title challenger took Oliveira to the mat early and, for lack of a better word, just tooled him from there.

The triangle that Cerrone locked up just over halfway through the round had Oliveira tapping faster than that time Sage Northcutt put an uncomfortably tight, ab-smothering turtleneck, so check out a full replay of the fight above (until it gets taken down).

After the jump: Chris Camozzi obliterates Joe Riggs‘ arms & face and the world feels sadder for having witnessed it.

Elsewhere on the Fight Night 83 card, UFC veterans Chris Camozzi and Joe Riggs faced off, and if you’ve been wondering how much “Diesel” has left in the tank (nailed it), then this fight will probably not be a fun thing to watch for you.

I know it’s been said before, but Joe Riggs has got to be the oldest looking 33-year-old since…people started living past 33, I guess. I understand that chopping one’s own dick off can’t be good method of preserving one’s youth (when you’re in you early 30′s at least), but someone needs to show that guy, like, moisterizer or something. I swear that I saw a fine layer of ash fly off his face when Camozzi landed that jab.

Main Card
Donald Cerrone def. Alex Oliveira via submission (triangle choke) (R1, 2:33)

Dennis Bermudez def. Tatsuya Kawajiri via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)
Chris Camozzi def. Joe Riggs via first-round TKO (0:26)
James Krause def. Shane Campbell via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Undercard

Sean Strickland def. Alex Garcia via third-round TKO (4:25)
Oluwale Bamgbose def. Daniel Sarafian via first-round KO (1:00)
Anthony Smith def. Leonardo Augusto Guimares via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)
Nathan Coy def. Jonavin Webb via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
