Jorge Masvidal claims he met Kamaru Usman in nightclub at 4 am before Khamzat Chimaev fight

Jorge Masvidal believes that if Kamaru Usman had a long er camp, he would have beat Khamzat Chimaev.

With a late withdrawal of Paulo Costa, Usman was called in to fight Khamzat Chimaev on 10 days’ notice at UFC 294, also up at middleweight. Usman would be taken down and controlled throughout the first but would make it a competitive affair in the second and third.

Ultimately losing by decision media scorecard would be all over the place – a testament to Usman’s performance. the former 170lb champion should be proud of his display, and considering the preparation time, he and many onlookers felt that with longer it could have gone the other way.

Jorge Masvidal shares amusing Kamaru Usman encounter

Usman’s former opponent, Masvidal, recently shared that he had met Usman just a day before the official announcement of his fight against Chimaev, but it was at 4am, in a nightclub.

“Funny story, right before he took that fight, hasn’t happened too often, but I saw Kamaru Usman out. It was the craziest stuff ever,” Masvidal said in a interview with MMA Mania. “I was walking into this establishment, I had my shades on and somebody goes, ‘Jorge Masvidal, what’s up?’ I go, ‘Man, that voice sounds **king familiar.’ I turned around, this is at 4:30 in the f—king morning, bro. It’s Usman’s ass and he’s got glasses too. What the **k?” (H/T MMA Mania)

Masvidal and Usman once had a bitter rivalry, but that seems to be behind the pair. ‘Gamebred’ would credit Usman for his performance, believing that

“I look, I must have lost my **king mind,” Masvidal said. “I lift them (my glasses) up and I go, ‘Usman?!’ and he goes, ‘What’s up, Masvidal?!’ This mother**ker, bro. That was literally the day before he got the announcement for the fight. So I just want to say if that guy has like five-six weeks to prepare for Chimaev, he takes him out. Guaranteed. He knocks his ass dead.”

Jorge Masvidal Believes Khazmat Chimaev is in for a rude awakening at middleweight: ‘They’ll hurt him’

Khamzat Chimaev

Jorge Masvidal believes Khamzat Chimaev is playing with fire in the middleweight division.

‘Borz’ stormed into the UFC in 2020 and rattled off three-straight victories in the span of eight weeks. Largely competing in the welterweight division, Chimaev has repeatedly ragdolled opponents with Gilbert Burns being the one glaring exception. Even then, ‘Borz’ came out on top via unanimous decision, keeping his undefeated record intact and establishing himself as a legit title contender inside the Octagon.

However, things went way off course ahead of his previously scheduled main event matchup with veteran fan favorite Nate Diaz when Chimaev stepped on the scale eight-pounds over the limit for their welterweight scrap. The blunder ultimately led to the UFC forcing Chimaev to make the move to middleweight.

Thus far, Chimaev has maintained his status as a legitimate title contender after securing a decision victory over former welterweight world champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 294, though the bout did come with a bit of adversity and a pinch of controversy. Not to mention the fact that the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ stepped into the bout on less than two weeks’ notice.

Sharing his take on Khazmat Chimaev’s move to middleweight, former welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal suggested that the Chechen will find a lot more dangerous men to contend with than he would at welterweight.

You put him in there with a lot of these [middleweights] I think they’ll f*cking hurt him,” Masvidal said in an interview with MMA Mania.

‘Gamebred’ bumped into Kamaru Usman at a nightclub hours before he stepped up to fight khamzat chimaev

Despite moving up a weight class on short notice, Kamaru Usman looked undeniably impressive in his showing against Khamzat Chimaev, even winning the bout in the eyes of many.

As it turns out, Usman was out clubbing mere hours before the announcement was made that he would be stepping into the UFC 294 co-main event, leaving many to wonder how things may have played out had Usman been given a full fight camp to prepare.

“Funny story, right before he took that fight, hasn’t happened too often, but I saw Kamaru Usman out. It was the craziest stuff ever,” Masvidal said. “I was walking into this establishment, I had my shades on and somebody goes, ‘Jorge Masvidal, what’s up?’ I go, ‘Man, that voice sounds f*cking familiar.’ I turned around, this is at 4:30 in the f*cking morning, bro. It’s Usman’s ass and he’s got glasses too. What the f*ck?

“I look, I must have lost my f*cking mind,” he continues. “I lift them (my glasses) up and I go, ‘Usman?!’ and he goes, ‘What’s up, Masvidal?!’ This motherf*cker, bro. That was literally the day before he got the announcement for the fight. So I just want to say if that guy has like five-six weeks to prepare for Chimaev, he takes him out. Guaranteed. He knocks his a** dead.”

Jorge Masvidal confirms plan for boxing move in 2024 somebody is getting killed UFC

Despite calling time on his combat sports career back in April of this year, former two-time UFC welterweight championship challenger, Jorge Masvidal, has announced plans for a boxing move in 2024, claiming an opponent of his will be “killed” when they share the squared circle.

Masvidal, a former two-time welterweight title challenger under the banner of the UFC, called time on his storied mixed martial arts career back in April of this year, suffered a fourth consecutive defeat in the form of a one-sided unanimous decision loss to former title chaser, Gilbert Burns in Miami, Florida.

Turning his attention exclusively to promotional work in the time since, Masvidal, who heads up Gamebred Fighting Championships, briefly entertained a return to mixed martial arts, offering to rematch prior foe and arch-rival, Ben Askren in a rematch at a proposed UFC 300 event in April of next year.

However, this week, the American Top Team staple has claimed he will make a professional boxing transition next year, as he eyes a quickfire end to his retirement from combat sports.

Jorge Masvidal reveals plan to pursue boxing move in 2024

“No names right now, but I can tell you it’s early next year and I can tell you somebody is going to get killed,” Jorge Masvidal told ESPN during a recent interview.

“Logan (Paul) didn’t f*cking knock [Dillon Danis] dead,” Jorge Masvidal explained. “I really wanted Logan to knock him dead. So, I’m kind of mad at Logan. I hope he sends me my money back, you know? Not that I paid for it – but still.”

Without a combat sports victory since November 2019, Masvidal most recently turned in a third round doctor’s stoppage TKO win over Nate Diaz in an inaugural symbolic BMF championship bout under the banner of the UFC, with the latter recently making his professional boxing debut in a decision loss to Jake Paul back in August of this year.

Jorge Masvidal blasts Dillon Danis after DQ loss to Logan Paul this is a disgrace to boxing

Sharing his thoughts on controversial grappling ace, Dillon Danis’ professional boxing bow against Logan Paul tonight in Manchester, former two-time UFC welterweight championship challenger, Jorge Masvidal has labelled the pair and the matchup, “a disgrace to boxing”.

Masvidal, revered for his striking ability – and particularly his boxing-heavy displays during his storied professional career, called time on his mixed martial arts run back in April at UFC 287, suffering a fourth consecutive loss in the form of a unanimous decision defeat to former title challenger, Gilbert Burns.

Turning his full attention to promoting and promotion work following his retirement from combat sports competition, Miami veteran, Masvidal has headed up Gamebred Fighting Championships in the time since.

Jorge Masvidal scoffs at Dillon Danis’ boxing match with Logan Paul

And tuning into tonight’s Misfits Boxing: The Prime Card in Manchester, England, Masvidal appeared to take major issue with Danis’ display against Paul, labelling the lacklustre pairing a “disgrace” to the sport and the squared circle.

“This a disgrace to boxing,” Jorge Masvidal posted on his official X account during the co-main event slot.

Ultimately disqualified in the final moments of his six round clash with Ohio native, Paul, Danis, who attempted to wrap up numerous submissions and even a double-leg takedown attempt on Paul during the bout, failed in a guillotine setup at the ropes.

Falling to the canvas, Danis was met with a hammer fist from a frustrated Paul, who himself was pucked at with a slew of upkick attempts, before both men took to the feet, with security members from Paul’s entourage entering the ring.

It has been a little over five months since Masvidal retired following his defeat to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. Following the loss, ‘Gamebred’ would retire in the cage, a slightly deflated would lay his gloves on the canvas as customary.

“I love all of you. Thank you everybody for watching. This is where I started my career,” said Masvidal. (H/T Mail)

Jorge Masvidal teases comeback against Justin Gaethje

Masvidal is officially retired and seems to be enjoying the comforts that come with it. However, like many before him, the spirit that took him so far is still very much alive. He has recently spoken about returning to face Justin Gaethje, who recently defeated Masivdal’s friend and teammate Dustin Poirier to take home the BMF title.

“I think he should defend it against me,” Masvidal said. “That’s what should happen. If I was to come back to the sport. That’s a big if. I never knock off coming back to fight, ‘cause I love fighting. I love fighting. It’s my favourite pastime, It’s my favourite sport, it’s my way of life. So I can never say I’m not gonna fight.” (H/T MMA News)
