Ali Abdelaziz has gone hard in the paint against Conor Mcgregor ahead of his return to the octagon at welterweight.

The manager of Khabib Nurgamedov has a well-documented beef with the Irishman who made Abdelaziz the target of his verbal warfare in the build up to his clash with the unbeaten Dagestani.

Speaking with Chael Sonnen, the popular manager called a potential fight with welterweight champion Kamaru Usman suicide and claimed McGregor is simply to lazy to actually cut weight. (H/T Chael Sonnen)

“It would be suicide for him to fight Kamuru even if he wins (against Cerrone).” Abdelaziz said. “Secondly, he doesn’t want to cut weight. They a bunch of lazy motherfuckers, they don’t want to make the weight.”

“If you’re
talking about Conor fighting at 170 and fighting Usman his family better have life
insurance because he might kill him.” Abdelaziz said. “I don’t think it’s a fair
fight. I don’t think the athletic commission should approve a fight between
Kamaru and Conor. I think something will happened to him, he’ll probably get crippled,
something bad will happen.”

Abdelaziz also claimed McGregor returning at 170 was not smart if he actually wants to get another crack at the lightweight champion.

“He’s actually not smart because if he actually wanted to fight Khabib he would of fought Cerrone at 155.” Abdelaziz said. “Even if he beats Cerrone do you think Khabib is going to fight him at 155? No, Khabib even said he needs to win ten fights. People think Khabib is just talking, but when Khabib said I’m not fighting in Vegas, he didn’t fight in Vegas. For sure financial standpoint it’s a good fight but I can’t force him on what to do because he’s a man, he’s different, he has principles.”

Will Conor McGregor stay at 170lbs or drop back down and chase another fight with Khabib Nurgamedov ?

Whatever Jorge Masvidal does next, it’s bound to be huge. However, longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan knows exactly what he wants to see next from “Gamebred.”

Taking to his podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan discussed all the likely scenarios for Masvidal. In Rogan’s opinion, he thinks Masvidal should fight the winner of Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington for the welterweight title. Usman vs. Covington headlines UFC 245 on pay-per-view (PPV) on December 14. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I see why he would say that but I think it would be a real shame if right now in his prime of primes, he didn’t fight for the title,” Rogan said. “I just feel like he’s so close. He’s huge right now.”

Then, Rogan was asked by guest and former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub if he wants to see Masvidal fight Nick Diaz or Conor McGregor next. However, Rogan seems dead set on seeing the Floridian fight for gold.

“No,” Rogan said. “Well, I wanna see first no matter what Colby and Usman. Yes, super excited about that. Once that’s done, I want Masvidal to fight for the title whoever’s got the belt. I think if Masvidal and Nick Diaz don’t fight on the undercard, I don’t even know if they actually made that. I have no idea.

“If they do make that fight happen, I mean of course I’m gonna be excited to see it. Of course, but my thoughts are that right now we’re experiencing Masvidal in this very strange zone where you see fighters enter into it whether it’s through this rededication or refocusing of his intent and his discipline.”

Do you think Masvidal should fight the winner of Usman vs. Covington next?

It remains to be seen what’s next for former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. “T-Wood” comes off of a unanimous decision loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235 in March where he lost the 170-pound strap.

Usman dominated Woodley for all five rounds, winning the first UFC title of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Now, Woodley has taken to a recent live stream on social media to reflect on the loss. Woodley actually thanked Usman for humbling him with the defeat, seemingly rejuvenating the former champion’s training. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“Even in loss man, I thank Usman for that fight because I had to check myself,” Woodley said. “I had to humble myself, I had to put myself back on the grind. I had to put myself back to where I was at when I f*cking got to the top, very uncomfortable place. Sparring world champion boxers and getting beat up.

“Wrestling division I wrestlers on a day-to-day basis. Running, training, strength, and conditioning at weird hours and just really get my body to a point where f*cking it couldn’t stand me. It hated me for what I was doing to it and that’s what I did. I got back to that now.”

Usman actually took part in his own live stream, and was asked about rematching Woodley down the line. “The Nigerian Nightmare” said he’s absolutely down to fight Woodley again, or anyone for that matter, if the money is right.

“Absolutely, why not?” Usman said. “I’ll fight anybody again if the money’s right.”

Usman will make the first title defense of his career against Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 245 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 14.

Do you think Woodley will ever rematch Usman inside the Octagon?

Jorge Masvidal Remains Unimpressed With Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman

Jorge Masvidal is not impressed at all by UFC 245 headliners Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

The pair are set to collide in a heated grudge match for the welterweight title on December 14 in Las Vegas. And whoever walks away as champion on the night could end up facing Masvidal next.

But despite both fighters holding a professional 15-1 record and dominating virtually every opponent they have faced inside the Octagon, “Gamebred” isn’t particularly worried about either fighter, especially based on their recent performances.

Covington threw a record 515 attempted significant strikes in his unanimous decision win over Robbie Lawler at UFC Newark back in August. But the one thing Masvidal observed from the 25-minute affair was Lawler not getting hurt once:

“In some aspects, yeah [it was impressive], because he threw 500 punches but never hurt Robbie once,” Masvidal said in a recent interview (via The Body Lock). “If you’re just doing this [imitating soft jabs] because you got the guy tired from wrestling, I don’t know. I don’t give you credit.

“Like they always say, it’s so cliche, but there’s levels to this, you know. There’s a reason why Colby wouldn’t want to fight — if he could pick guys he wouldn’t want to fight. There’s a reason why he was saying we weren’t talking for a year and a half. ‘He’s my best friend’ — he was just saying that like four or five weeks ago that I’m his best friend. Now, all of a sudden I’m his mortal enemy?

“The guy has his wires crossed, especially when it comes to me. He got to train with me a little bit so you can imagine the trauma I’ve put him through.”

As for Usman, Masvidal took issue with the champion’s lack of offensive grappling and believes “The Nigerian Nightmare” lacks a kicking game:

“Not at all [impressed with Usman],” Masvidal added. (via MMA Fighting). “I think there’s some things he does well, which is kind of stall. He just gets to a leg and takes guys down. I’m a fan of grappling but I like to see grappling offensively.

“He can’t kick nothing. It’s like me saying there’s a MMA guy that’s a great, great boxer technique-wise, nah, it’s like he’s a great boxer for MMA. Maybe Usman’s a good kicker for YMCA, the public club, but he’s not kicking me. The guy would never land a kick on me.”

Masvidal Separating Himself From The Pack

Masvidal’s popularity has increased so much that a title fight may actually be low in his desired pecking order for a next fight.

And when it comes to Usman and Covington, they don’t seem to be fighters that excite the former Strikeforce standout:

“I got into this sport to separate myself from the pack and beat the crap out of guys. Those guys don’t do it,” Masvidal added. “What I did this year, I got three stoppages. They haven’t done that their whole career.

“This is math speaking, this is not opinion. You can look it up. What I’ve done this year, they haven’t done their whole careers.”

What do you make of Masvidal’s assessments?

Here is an editorial that was written two years ago, just prior to the first fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington at UFC 245. Now that we’ve witnessed not one but two classics between them, it’s clear that MMA fans did have plenty to be thankful for. Here is a trip back to the past before the two ever met in the Octagon, capturing the magnitude of their first classic which was right around the corner.

[ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED NOVEMBER 28, 2019, 12:00 PM]

Ah, Thanksgiving. It’s a time for families to come together and be thankful for all of life’s blessings that have been bestowed upon them. Yes, we all have something to be thankful for, and today is a day to take the time to reflect on those things. In my case, what I am most thankful for today isn’t any turkey or stuffing, it’s the impending showdown between UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington at UFC 245 that will take place two weeks from Saturday.

That’s right, MMA fam, the only stuffing I’m thankful for is getting to find out which of these elite MMA wrestlers will be treated to some takedown stuffing come December 14 and seeing which of the two will eat the most shots. When it comes to consuming damage, both Usman and Covington have displayed a true lack of appetite, with both men barely getting touched in each of their combined 21 fights, with Usman absorbing a meager 1.60 strikes per minute and Covington only absorbing 2.35.

And in terms of dishing it out, both men may choose to take the path of least resistance whenever it is presented to them, but make no mistake, both fighters know how to serve up beatdowns. In fact, despite the myth that both men are one-dimensional, Colby Covington holds the record for most strikes thrown in a UFC fight, with his total of 541 against Robbie Lawler in his most recent outing. As for Usman, when faced with his toughest challenge to date against then-champion Tyron Woodley, Usman not only set a record for most body shots in a UFC fight, but he also had the largest strike differential in UFC title fight history in that same fight! Geesh, that’s a lot of absence of “hugging” from both men. Where’s the love?

So if the elite wrestling skills of both men cancel each other out, then somebody is going to be on the receiving end of more punches than they have ever been before….or maybe they both will. Maybe fans will be surprised when two men who are used to feasting on their opponents’ wills tear into one another in an unexpected five-round war. Yes, like a kid whose parents continue to hint at an epic Christmas gift that I have no clue about, in these weeks that lead up to the big December day, it’s the not knowing that I am so thankful for. And as we all know, the anticipation season for the big December event officially begins on Thanksgiving day.

Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington have proven to be the most dominant fighters in the welterweight division. Between them, an argument can be made that save Covington’s first-round submission loss to Warrlley Alves four years ago, neither man has lost a round in the UFC. Both grapplers have instead become accustomed to earning the MMA equivalent of technical falls. They have been so dominant that there’s a great chance that this is but only the first chapter in what will turn out to be a long rivalry between two supreme talents. And that’s another thing that I am thankful for about this contest: both men are 100% in their primes.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for the things we have and also for the things that we may regretfully take for granted in our day-to-day lives. Well, a 10-0 versus 10-1 bout between two competitors in their prime is nothing to take for granted. Sure, it might not generate the buzz of other fights this year, including the BMF bout earlier this month between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz, but the fact remains that Kamaru Usman versus Colby Covington, from a competitive standpoint, is the fight of the year on paper. Both men may have their detractors, and their fighting styles aren’t typically the most fan-friendly, but that doesn’t change the reality that if you are a purist and you want to know who the best man is, these are the fights to salivate over because they are rare, as they are truly rare, as our Khabib versus Ferguson woes illustrate.

So I invite you to join me at this table of those who are thankful for talents like Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington, even if many around you are not. And if you are a grace-sayer, go ahead and say a prayer that both men make it to Las Vegas fully intact and far above 30%. Because aside from all the drama between the fighters and all the outside noise of ingrates who do not truly appreciate how epic of a fight this is, the plain truth is: this is a really, really damn good fight that any fan of our sport should be thankful for.

Now go eat.
