Georges St-Pierre believes that Kamaru Usman is the best fighter in the UFC and in the division, but he does not believe he is invincible.

St-Pierre is one of the greatest fighters and possibly the greatest fighter to ever step into the cage. He knows about the feeling of invincibility and being humbled in the cage. He was in that same situation with Matt Serra. Serra knocked out ‘GSP’ while he was at the top of his game.

Usman has come close to losing a few times. He was knocked down by Gilbert Burns in their fight. Burns hits like a Mack truck, so for him to get up and dominate Burns the rest of the fight was very impressive.

Some believe Colby Covington has inched out a victory over Usman. He has given him his best rounds and is one of the most well rounded fighters in the entire organization.

It looks like Usman is looking forward to a fight with Canelo Alvarez, but Alvarez hasn’t reciprocated that same eagerness to box him. Usman may be overlooking his competition that may be in their primes of their careers.

Georges St-Pierre believes there are a few guys in the welterweight division that could beat him in the octagon.

“I believe there’s a lot of guys that can beat Usman,” St-Pierre told MMA News (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “I do believe personally Usman is the best right now in the division but that doesn’t mean he is invincible. He needs to always stay on top of the game. It’s hard to be champion and it’s even harder to stay champion. I’m sure if you ask Usman, he’ll tell you the same thing.” St-Pierre said.

Usman may be overlooking killers like Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev. Those guys are up next in terms of challengers and that could cause for a bad circumstance.

“He’s on a tear right now, he looks phenomenal but there’s a lot of guys that can give him a lot of trouble like Khamzat Chimaev. Leon Edwards, maybe. Usman so far has been a puzzle that no one is able to solve. He’s incredible but he needs to stay focused to make sure he never underestimates nobody and trains for every fight like it’s the hardest fight he’s ever had.”

Canelo Alvarez Warns Kamaru Usman: ‘Sit Down It’s Not Your Turn Yet’

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has sent a reminder to UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman that he will have to mind his time if he ever wants a shot against one of boxing’s greatest.

Speculation has circled around for weeks now regarding Usman’s interest in facing Canelo inside the square, but now it appears one of boxings best may have dampened the UFC champion’s plans.

The pair exchanged an interaction on social media in the past day or so. This originally was started by Usman’s manager who called out Canelo on social media. This is how it went.

Canelo Alvarez and Kamaru Usman Exchange on Social Media

“@Canelo is an absolute chicken, he is fighting guys with 5000 followers on Instagram, these guys will never do nothing for his legacy. Now I understand why he doesn’t wanna lose to someone like @USMAN84kg this is chicken style, no risk – no reward.”

Understandably, the first undisputed super middleweight champion did not take to well to this given his highlight-filled career and time spent at the elite level of boxing, so he responded.

‘who the f**k is this? ???

Ali replied with a comparison of the two and suggested Alvarez had been ducking Gennady Golovkin for the past two years now.

‘You know who I am, you know what’s the difference between you and @USMAN84kg? You’ve been ducking GGG for 2 years now, but Kamaru have fought everybody UFC threw at him. I’m being very nice to you, because it’s Ramadan.’

This sparked the UFC welterweight champion’s interest who replied with a light-hearted comment.

‘Let’s just all relax… before somebody gets hurt ?

To which Alvarez then decided to up the stakes with his response.

‘I agree cuz  it will not be me ??

Usman responded to him by offering him the chance to find out both inside the boxing ring and the octagon.

‘In the cage or the ring I’m willing find out in both… Are you? ??

Canelo responded to remind Usman it is not his time for the opportunity yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be ever.

‘You calling me out right ? You want the pay day right ? So you know where, but sit down it’s not your turn yet I have a legacy to make ??

Canelo has his own challenge to overcome first in the form of Dmitry Bivol, whilst Kamaru Usman is waiting to return from injury and defend his welterweight strap against Leon Edwards.

As a fan of combat sports, is this a fight you would like to see?

UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman has stood up for his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, following his recent squabble with Canelo Álvarez.

Abdelaziz aimed at Canelo on Twitter earlier this week and accused him of ducking a fight with Usman. Abdelaziz has predicted that Usman would knockout Canelo inside a few rounds if a crossover fight were to take place.

Canelo responded by dismissing Abdelaziz and mocking him on social media.

Usman remains interested in a fight with Canelo, despite UFC President Dana White seeming less than amused by the proposed booking. However, tensions between the two sides seem to be heating up.

Usman replied to Álvarez’s dismissal of Abdelaziz in a recent tweet.

“Let’s just all relax…before somebody gets hurt,” Usman tweeted.

Canelo would then immediately issue the following response:

“I agree cuz it will not be me.”

Usman is expected to face Leon Edwards for his next welterweight title defense later this year. He’s coming off a year that featured wins over Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal, and Gilbert Burns.

Before any potential fight talks take place, Álvarez will face Dmitry Bivol for the WBA super light heavyweight title on May 7. He’s accumulated a 57-1-2 record in the boxing ring.

Canelo’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has expressed interest in booking a crossover match between Usman and Canelo. If the fight ends up coming to fruition, fans can expect some bad blood brewing between their respective teams.

Do you think we’ll see Kamaru Usman vs. Canelo Álvarez in a crossover fight?

Canelo Álvarez just clapped back hard at UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz.

With talk of a potential boxing bout between the two champions looming, Abdelaziz took to Twitter to call the Mexican boxing star a “chicken” for his recent comments about focusing on his “legacy” and not being too worried about a fight with the UFC champion.

Alvarez was quick to respond, taking a page out of Conor McGregor’s playbook with the “Who the f*ck is that guy” treatment.

For those of you who don’t remember, McGregor hit Jeremy Stephens with the “Who the f*ck is that guy” line at a UFC press conference in 2016, and it remains one of the best one-liners in UFC press conference history to this day.

As for the issues between the Álvarez and Usman’s camp, it doesn’t seem like the potential contest is too high on either Álvarez’s or the UFC’s side. Álvarez is currently slated to challenge for the WBA Super light heavyweight title against Dmitry Bivol on May 7.

Usman is currently on the mend following hand surgery. “The Nigerian Nightmare” has essentially cleaned out his division of proven challengers, and is waiting for a new contender to emerge in the meantime. The contrasts between Usman and Álvarez’s careers, however, make for a very interesting story in a potential bout.

Both men have lost only once in their respective sports, and both their losses came in 2013. Canelo Álvarez suffered a decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., while Usman was submitted in his second professional mixed martial arts (MMA) bout by Jose Caceres. Since, both men have gone on to dominate in their divisions, not having lost since.

What do you think about a potential boxing clash between the two champions? Let us know in the comments!

In his quest to land his client, UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman a professional boxing match this year, Dominance MMA leader and prominent manager, Ali Abdelaziz has come under fire from world champion boxer, Canelo Alvarez.

Usman, the current undisputed welterweight champion under the UFC’s banner, has yet to book his first Octagon outing of this year, however, is earmarked to feature at a pay-per-view event in July in a title rematch against Leon Edwards.

The Auchi native recently underwent a surgical procedure to address a ligament injury to his right hand, with his most recent outing coming in the form of a November unanimous decision win over two-time opponent, Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 268 at Madison Square Garden.

Canelo Alvarez recently insisted the time was not right for a bout against Kamaru Usman

Whilst Usman has confirmed that he is likely to share the Octagon with Edwards next, a venture to the squared circle in a professional boxing match against the above mentioned, WBA and WBO world champion, Canelo has continued to rumble in the background, with Usman clamouring for a shot at the Mexican striking sensation.

Attempting to draw Canelo into a clash against Usman, the aforementioned, Abdelaziz claimed that the former was a “chicken”, who was fighting opponent who had no effect on his legacy.

“@Canelo (Canelo Alvarez) is an absolute chicken, he is fighting guys with 5,000 followers on Instagram, these guys will never do nothing for his legacy,” Ali Abdelaziz tweeted. “Now I understand why he doesn’t wanna lose to someone like @USMAN84kg this is chicken style, no risk – no reward.”

Replying to Abdelaziz, Canelo gained mass attention – questioning who the mixed martial arts manager actually was.

“Who the f*ck is this? (laughing face emoji) (confused face emoji),” Canelo Alvarez tweeted.

Issuing another tweet aimed at Canelo, Abdelaziz accused the world champion of avoiding a championship rematch with Gennady Golovkin.

“You know who I am, you know what’s the difference between you and @USMAN84kg?” Ali Abdelaziz tweeted. “You’ve been ducking GGG (Gennady Golovkin) for 2 years now, but Kamaru have (sic) fought everybody UFC threw at him. I’m being very nice to you, because it’s Ramadan.”

UFC legend Georges St-Pierre knows how his prime self would approach a bout with reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

When the topic of conversation surrounds who the GOAT is at 170 pounds, there are two names that inevitably come up: St-Pierre and Usman. Up until recently, the former was seemingly alone in the debate and unchallenged. But with his ongoing dominance, “The Nigerian Nightmare” has caused a divide.

Option number one, St-Pierre, is a UFC Hall of Famer who defended the welterweight title a record nine times. During his 19 wins in the division, a record shared with Neil Magny, GSP defeated names like Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Matt Serra, BJ Penn, and Matt Hughes. “Rush” also achieved champ-champ status when he dethroned Michael Bisping to collect middleweight gold in 2017.

Option number two, Usman, has joined GSP in the debate off the back of an undefeated tenure in the UFC that has seen him dethrone Tyron Woodley with ease and defend the title on five occasions, twice each versus Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, and once against Gilbert Burns.

With their impressive accomplishments in mind, for many, the debate comes down to their individual skillsets and abilities. So, how would prime St-Pierre fare against Usman?

How about we let the man himself provide an answer…

St-Pierre: I Would Put Usman On His Back

During an interview with MMA News’ own James Lynch, St-Pierre assessed his chances against the man currently reigning over the welterweights in similar vein to his own stint on the throne a number of years ago.

After describing Usman’s strengths when it comes to controlling against the cage, St-Pierre suggested he’d utilize his active, movement-based style to counter. Beyond that, the name of the game would be takedowns. For GSP, the key would be testing Usman in waters he’s never swam in.

“Usman has a style that he is very good at chain wrestling. He’s very good when he puts his opponent against the fence. He can do it all. He’s very well rounded,” admitted St-Pierre. “His main speciality in wrestling, he’s very good at putting his opponent against the fence and working from there.

“My style, I was more a guy that moves, moves, hit and run, so to speak. That was my game. So, my game would have been to put him down, but with feints and proactive and reactive takedowns,” GSP told MMA News.

“I would have, If I would have fought him, tried to put him on his back because I’ve never seen him there. That would have been my strategy.”

Some may suggest that given Usman’s wrestling credentials and dominance in that department to date, taking him down would be an ambitious route to victory. However, for “Rush,” the key to tackling the best is to find their weaknesses, which he believes are usually embedded in their strengths.

“Where someones seems stronger than everybody, that is the place where you need to attack. Sometimes their strength gets transformed to a weak link. You never know how he fights on his back,” suggested St-Pierre. “Nobody has ever exposed him there. There’s guys that are very good wrestlers, but once they’re on their back, they’ve never been there, so you don’t know how they will react.

“Would I succeed or not? We’ll never know [LAUGHS]… I think so, because I’m a fighter and I’m kind of biased,” said GSP. “There is nobody that I have fought that I wasn’t able to put down. But it’s a different era, a different time, guys get better. Usman is just fantastic. He’s the best right now.”

While many share the sentiment that St-Pierre remains at the head of the table for the time being, the man himself has previously said that Usman is well on his way to surpassing him.

Unfortunately, with the Canadian remaining firm on his decision to retire, a fantasy clash between GSP and Usman will likely remain just that: a fantasy.

How do you think prime Georges St-Pierre would fare against Kamaru Usman?
