Joe Rogan Khamzat Chimaev

Commentator Joe Rogan recently discussed how much of a monster Khamzat Chimaev is in the UFC. Rogan has been cage-side for decades are recognizes talent when he sees it.

On his podcast, Rogan attempted to explain his point of view on ‘Borz’ Chimaev with Dave Portnoy. Joe Rogan said:

“Literally the best wrestler in the division who’s a f*ckin’ motherf*cker. That guy is a motherf*cker. Khamzat ragdolls people and talks sh*t while he’s doing it. He picked up Li Jingliang and carried him to Dana White while he was talking sh*t.”

Khamzat Chimaev is a growing star in the UFC’s welterweight and middleweight divisions. This Swedish-Russian fighter has an undefeated record with notable wins over Gilbert Burns, Kevin Holland, Jingliang, and others.

Joe Rogan on his post-fight interview with Khamzat Chimaev

Long-time UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently reflected on a post-fight interview he had with UFC star Khamzat Chimaev.

On his podcast, alongside Dave Portnoy, Joe Rogan explained how his primary role in the post-fight interview is to help the fighter shine in the spotlight. However, he was struggling with ‘Borz’ Chimaev due to how much the Swedish-Russian fighter missed weight the day before.

Chimaev is on his way to a title shot in the UFC title but missed the 170 weight limit by a whopping 8.5 lbs. Rogan explained:

“I was in a situation where I wanted to praise Khamzat because he just rag-dolled Kevin Holland in one of the most spectacular performances of the year … But also, he weighed in eight and a half pounds overweight. He f*cked up the entire promotion.”

New bodycam footage of the incident involving UFC welterweights Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington has been released.

Following their UFC 272 bout in March of last year, the feud between Masvidal and Covington would spill onto the street. While eating at a restaurant with YouTube stars, the Nelk Boys, Covington was attacked by Masvidal, allegedly causing a fractured tooth and damage to his Rolex watch.

Following the incident, Masvidal would hand himself into the police, a video of which was also recently released. The 38-year-old would plead not guilty to the charges of aggravated battery and criminal mischief, while also being ordered to stay it least 500 feet away from Covington’s home, 25 feet from his person, and was not allowed direct or indirect contact with him.

New angle following Jorge Masvidal attack

Body cam footage, released by YouTube Channel ‘Real World Police’, shows us the moments after police arrive at the scene. Officers can be seen talking to Covington and social media influencer, Bob Menery.

Covington would describe Masvidal, accompanied by ‘three to four’ men, wearing a mask while attacking him, most likely to conceal his identity. The 34-year-old described Masvidal as saying “you shouldn’t have been talking about my kids” during the attack.

Footage following alleged Jorge Masvidal attack

Neither fighter has competed since their fight, which Covington would win via a dominant decision. The pair have also been rather quiet on social media, particularly Covington, and neither has spoken extensively about the incident.

Covington, who is currently ranked No.2, has been tipped to take on the fearsome Khamzat Chimaev in what would be a No.1 contenders’ matchup.

As for Masvidal, he had been rumored to be facing Gilbert Burns but that matchup ultimately fell through. The ‘BMF’ champ has fallen considerably from his breakout year in 2019 and now finds himself ranked No.11

What consequences, if any, should Jorge Masvidal face for the Covington incident?

Former UFC Flyweight and Bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo has shared his views on several fighters you should keep eye on as we enter 2023.

Prospects such as Jack Della Maddalena and Muhammad Mokaev broke through in 2022 and introduced themselves to the mixed martial arts world. As the number of fighters on the UFC roster grows so does the talent pool and with it comes the likelihood of new champions being on the rise.

One man who knows exactly what it takes to become a champion is Henry Cejudo. The former flyweight and bantamweight champion is anticipated to return to competition himself this year with a potential matchup against Aljamain Sterling to be had.

Cejudo is well aware of the challenge he faces returning to the bantamweight division, a weight class that many perceive to be holding the greatest depth of talent across the promotion.

So much so that in an interview with The Schmo, Henry Cejudo listed his five fighters whom he considered to be some of the best prospects heading into 2023. Including fellow bantamweight contender, Umar Nurmagomedov.

Henry Cejudo Lists Five Prospects For 2023

“I’m gonna have to say Khamzat Chimaev, Bo Nickal, Umar Nurmagomedov, the 125-pounder [Amir Albazi] that just knocked out the Brazilian… I call him ‘The Iraqi Nightmare’,” Henry Cejudo said. “Who was number five? Oh, [Rafael] Fiziev.” (Transcribed by MMANews)

For anyone following the sport the names he suggested should come as no surprise with each contender on the list having an extremely successful 2022.

Should Cejudo follow through on his claim to return to competition this year, it is likely he will expect to walk straight into a title shot against Aljamain Sterling. However, should the UFC want for him to earn his shot at the 125-pound belt a matchup against surging contender Umar Nurmagomedov may be a great place for him to do so?

Of the five Henry Cejudo listed, who do you believe has the best chance at becoming a UFC champion?

Undefeated UFC welterweight prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov has recently taken a jab at former lightweight and welterweight talent Kevin Lee, who recently called out Khamzat Chimaev despite not being signed with the UFC himself.

Lee recently tweeted the following regarding Chechnya native: “All I’m saying is I’m willing. Don’t act like everybody(‘s) scared of the man.”

It’s hard to imagine this fight would even be put together, considering Lee left the UFC over a year ago. He also has three fights left on his deal with Eagle FC, following a four-fight contract he signed with the promotion in late 2021.

Lee defeated The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner Diego Sanchez in his Eagle FC debut, a lackluster performance that gave ‘The MoTown Phenom’ his first win in over two years, improving his record to 19-7 in the process. However, he’s still only 3-5 in his last eight.

Shavkat Rakhmonov responded to the tweet stating: “Where do I fit into this?”

It’s a reasonable question, because he’s the perfect next match up for Chimaev according to many fans and media members.

For one, Rakhmonov is currently under the UFC umbrella, and for two, it’d be an undefeated versus undefeated match up.

Rakhmonov just lost his match up with Geoff Neal, who was forced to withdraw from their January showdown with an injury. Neal is the only man to knock out both Mike Perry and Vicente Luque, and Rakhmonov is currently in search of another dance partner considering.

Rakhmonov is 16-0 (4-0 UFC) as a professional with finishes in all 16 wins (8 knockout, 8 submission), while Chimaev is 12-0 (6-0 UFC) as a professional with 11 finishes (6 knockout, 5 submission).

Should the UFC make this fight next, someone’s 0 will have to go.

But, these are perhaps the no. 1 and no. 2 hottest prospects in the sport right now, they’re both 28 years old, they’re both undefeated with a combined record of 28-0 (10-0 UFC with 9 finishes), and they’d probably end up rematching for the belt someday down the road.

Who knows, maybe they’d even have a trilogy as well.

Do you think Shavkat Rakhmonov vs Khamzat Chimaev is the fight to make next?
