UFC star Paige VanZant’s appearance in the finals of ABC’ “Dancing With The Stars” begins tonight, and it appears her Hollywood career has already been kick-started in a big way thanks to the show.

A report recently surfaced from Deadline detailing that VanZant has signed on to make her film debut in the latest installment of the Jean-Claude Van Damme-lead ‘Kickboxer’ franchise.

According to the article, VanZant will play a character called Gamon, a ’26-year-old high-level fighting and shooting skills with some strong criminal connections too.’ After a lightning-fast rise to stardom in the Octagon and her appearance on the show, the producers of ‘Kickboxer: Retaliation,’ Our House Films, have witnessed VanZant’s magnetic drawing ability and realize the benefits she brings to a martial arts film:

“Paige is the up-and-coming darling of the UFC and her star quality shines through on camera,” producer Rob Hickman of Our House Films said in a statement. “She’s a tremendous asset to the film both as an onscreen talent and as a trainer fighter.”

Indeed she is, as VanZant’s experience as the No. 8-ranked female strawweight fighter in the world will prove invaluable on the set of ‘Retaliation,’ which is the sequel of the still-upcoming ‘Kickboxer: Vengeance’ starring Van Damme, former Strikeforce champ and women’s MMA pioneer Gina Carana, former WWE champ Dave Bautista, and newcomer Alain Moussi, which will be released this fall.

‘Retaliation’ will follow ‘Venegeance.’ The film is currently filming in California and Nevada and will head to Asia for more scenes this June.

So “12 Gauge” is quickly making her impact onscreen, even if  she did get cursed out by Ronda Rousey, and she’s acting alongside with Hollywood action heavies. Will you pay the price of admission to go watch her in ‘Kickboxer: Retaliation,’ or is even VanZant not enough to persuade you back into following Van Damme?

FilmPotato: Gina Carano Lands Role as “Vixen” in Kickboxer Remake

(Needless to say, the casting agents were “empress wid their performance.” I’ll see myself out. via Getty)

When it was announced that we would be seeing a Kickboxer remake starring Georges St. Pierre and Dave Bautista back in May, I had the totally reasonable reaction of threatening to “eat a baby” if a remake of The Raid was also announced, which happened just days later. True to my word, I am now on something of a hiatus from public life, and would just like to let Mrs. Annabelle Smith of 247 Bakersfield Road, MN know that it was nothing personal.

Aaaaaaanyway, a press release sent out by Radar Films earlier this week (which we would have brought to you yesterday had CP’s mainframe not imploded) announced that another familiar face to MMA fans would be joining the project as well: former Strikeforce champ and In the Blood star Gina Carano. Carano has been cast as “Vixen”, a fight promoter and “boa constrictor of this fighting jungle” who hopefully wears outfits like this and bites her lip a lot.

More details on the Kickboxer remake/relevant gifs are after the jump.

Random thought: Remember when Gina Carano was supposedly signing with the UFC? Yeah, me neither.

The Kickboxer remake was briefly set to also star Tony Jaa in the “Master Chow” role until a scheduling conflict forced him out of the film. Taking his place will be none other than original Kickboxer star (and close friend of St. Pierre) Jean Claude Van Damme, who signed onto the film last week. I can only hope that they change the character’s name in light of this, but then again, seeing Van Damme attempt to play Taiwanese would be as hilarious as, well, his attempts to play American.

I’ll say it again because it’s even more relevant now, but if this movie doesn’t feature some sort of capoeira-infused dance off between St. Pierre and Van Damme, it will have been an entirely pointless endeavor.

Gina Carano and Georges St-Pierre Cast for Roles in ‘Kickboxer’ Remake

It appears Georges St-Pierre and Gina Carano are going to stick to taking fake punches for paychecks…at least for a bit longer. The former MMA champions were both recently cast in the remake of the 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme classic Kickboxer, which ultimately played a large part in the action star’s rise to popularity. FilmPotato: Georges St. Pierre to Star in Kickboxer Remake Alongside Batista

(Gentlemen, it needs more TELEGRAPHED KICKS AND PUNCHES!!)

At last, at last, a remake of the 1989 Jean Claude Van Damme vehicle, Kickboxer, is on the way. Put your worries to rest, Nation, the Karate Kid ripoff once described as “the dumbest action picture of the year” will finally be told the way it should. Not since the Power Rangers reboot have I been so excited to see another blatant cash grab! Focus group testing FTW!!

In addition to introducing “world-renowned stuntman” Alain Moussi as it’s lead, the poor man’s Bloodsport remake will co-star former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre — fresh off his role as Batroc the Leaper in Captain America: Winter Soldier — and WWE star/one-time MMA fighter Dave Batista. So sayeth a press release sent out earlier today:

KICKBOXER will be directed by Chinese phenomenon Stephen Fung (TAI CHI ZERO, TAI CHI HERO) and produced hit maker Ted Field of Radar Pictures (RIDDICK Series, THE LAST SAMURAI). KICKBOXER will star UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER), and WWE superstar Dave Bautista (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.)

The film will also be introducing Alain Moussi as its lead. Mr. Moussi is a world-renowned stunt man / martial artists, performing in such films as (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, IMMORTALS, PACIFIC RIM, WHITEHOUSE DOWN). “Alain is a star and will be an amazing leading man,” said Filed “Like Vin in RIDDICK, Alain will make this movie very special and this KICKBOXER reboot will be the start of an amazing franchise”.

Additional cast will be announced shortly.

A foreign director’s big screen American debut, starring a stuntman, an MMA fighter, and a professional wrestler. HOW COULD IT GO WRONG?!

In the history of film remakes, there are only a handful that have been anything other than terrible, and they are: Dawn of the Dead, Brothers, Heat, and The Thing. There is no arguing this.

Of course, it doesn’t help that the filmmakers have gotten off to a terrible start by failing to cast GSP as the film’s lead. Aside from his close ties to Van Damme, St. Pierre already has JCVD’s dance moves nailed down…

I swear to God, if they remake The Raid, I will eat a baby.

Watch Badr Hari’s Documentary and Then Decide Whether Or Not He’s a Crazy Motherf*cker

(Video courtesy of YouTube/Undubately)

If you’re unfamiliar with who Badr Hari is, watch this documentary and familiarize yourself with kickboxing’s answer to Mike Tyson.

“The Golden Boy” is candid and honest about his issues with anger inside and outside of the ring in the short doc that aired last week on Dutch TV. I don’t know what makes a crazy, out of control person who stomps on downed opponents and knocks people who piss him off out in the street so polarizing, but it’s stories like these that I’d read about or watch any day of the week.

If you’re like me and the show left you wanting to hear more from Hari about himself, you’re in luck. Michael Schiavello announced during the HDNet broadcast of last weekend’s Titan Fighting event that he recently sat down with the beleagured Dutch-born Morroccan fighter to shoot an episode of  his acclaimed “The Voice vs.” series and that it was the most intense interview he’s ever done. The Voice vs. Badr Hari will air June 24 at 10 pm ET on HDNet.

Check out parts 2 and 3 of the documentary after the jump.
