The UFC has been doing some key fights on their exclusive streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, as of late. Some notable fighters are being pulled from main cards of events and being positioned/hyped as the main event of the Fight Pass prelims card of events.

Some take this as a good thing, and some take this as a bad thing.

One fighter, in particular, Lorenz Larkin, is speaking out about the UFC’s decision to position his fight with  Number 7 ranked Neil Magny at UFC 202 on the streaming service instead of putting the fight on the main card where it should be.

Larkin appeared on the Three Amigos Podcast to comment on the fight, and he stated that he doesn’t understand why the fight is featured on the prelims.

“It’s the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a while, and I don’t understand it whatsoever. I get that from a business aspect, they want to sell more subscriptions, but as a fighter, it makes no sense to put that type of fight on the early prelims. Man…I don’t even know what to say. It’s just stupid.

Anytime I’m asked to comment on anything, I try to look at it from a fighter’s aspect and a business aspect, so I’m not being the “dumb fighter” that’s talking out of his ass. That said, I do understand they’re trying to sell subscriptions, but from a fighter’s point of view, I have to wonder what it does for me. How does this benefit me?

This card is potentially going to be the biggest card of the year. It’s probably going to beat UFC 200, but that exposure won’t really be there for me. My fight will be over early and I’ll be in the stands waiting on everybody else to get in the building [laughs].”

Larkin then went off about the UFC fighter rankings. According to Larkin, the rankings don’t mean anything because the promotion is just looking to book exciting fights instead of matching the best fighters in the world against each other.

“The rankings don’t mean shit. If the fight looks to be exciting, they put the it together, regardless of rankings. It doesn’t matter if you’re Number 1 or Number 7. That’s why top guys have gotten shelved for a little bit while Number 7 has already had a title shot. If you’re exciting, they’re going to make the fights happen.”

UFC 202 takes place on Saturday, August 20th, 2016, at the T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas, Nevada. The UFC Fight Pass prelims will start at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT while the FOX Sports 1 prelims will start at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, and the main card will start on PPV at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The main event will be a rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz while the co-main event will be a light heavyweight clash between Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira.

The audio of this interview will be available this Thursday.

Another UFC Fighter Hopes For CM Punk’s Demise At UFC 203

Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Superstar CM Punk is all set to make his highly-anticipated Octagon debut, when he takes on UFC President Dana White’s Looking For A Fight standout Mickey Gall on the main card of September 10’s UFC 203 from Cleveland, Ohio.

Much has been made of Punk’s sudden thrust into the big leagues of mixed martial arts (MMA), as the former professional wrestler has had no amateur experience in the sport and has been given an opportunity that most men in the industry have worked their entire lives for, causing upset amongst many of the promotion’s talents.

cm punkOne 170-pound division member who is also in uproar at Punk’s sudden UFC debut is promotion veteran Lorenz Larkin. Larkin spoke with TMZ Sports, courtesy of FOX Sports, and expressed his displeasure for the sudden opportunity given to the former WWE star:

“I would hope that he loses,” Larkin said. “I can’t just go and be like, ‘Hey, I want to join the (expletive) Baltimore Ravens. I want to be on the Patriots.’

I can’t just jump on and be like, ‘I’m going to play football, and I’m going to be in the NFL.’ So it’s like the same type of thing. You can’t just jump in.

We’re supposed to be the cream of the crop — we’re supposed to be like the NFL of fighting. So it’s like, no normal guy could jump out and be on an NFL team. So what the hell is the difference?

He’s never fought a day in his life … [The WWE stuff] is cool, but if I go over there, I’m going to suck and vice versa, if he comes over here, he’s going to suck.”

Larkin expects Gall to make quick work of Punk, and in not so pretty fashion, as he claims the UFC doesn’t ‘have enough insurance to cover that fight’:

“I don’t think the UFC has enough insurance to cover that fight.” Larkin said. “It’s like me going heads up with Marshawn Lynch, with pads on. He’s gonna run me over.”

Mickey Gall cm punkPunk and Gall will throw down on the main card of UFC 203 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on September 10, 2016.

UFC Veteran: PED Users Look Like Women That Gave Birth

UFC veteran Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal will return to action in Las Vegas at tonight’s (May 29, 2016) UFC Fight Night 88 card from the Mandalay Bay Events Center as he takes on the always tough Lorenz Larkin. Leading up to his highly-anticipated bout, Masvidal spoke up on the use of performance-enhancing-drugs (PEDs) in the sport

UFC veteran Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal will return to action in Las Vegas at tonight’s (May 29, 2016) UFC Fight Night 88 card from the Mandalay Bay Events Center as he takes on the always tough Lorenz Larkin.

Leading up to his highly-anticipated bout, Masvidal spoke up on the use of performance-enhancing-drugs (PEDs) in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), claiming that a plethora of steroid users were seriously affected by the UFC signing on with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA):

“This is gonna hurt a lot of people’s feelings, but I like to say the truth, so let the truth be told,” said Masvidal in a recent appearance on The Three Amigos podcast (transcribed by Bloody Elbow). “I don’t do steroids. I didn’t do steroids when I was first in this sport, and I don’t do them now. That’s a big reason why I’m still getting better. A lot of these guys that were on the steroids and the PEDs…when USADA came in, these guys were running out the door trying to dodge the test. That wasn’t me.”

Not only does Masvidal insist that he’s never taken PEDs, but he had a rather strange opinion on those who have taken PEDs and are now attempting to ween off of them, comparing them to ‘women that gave birth’:

“A lot of these motherf*ckers can’t do those things that were getting them over the top and getting them the big paychecks and all these endorsements from supplement companies anymore,” added Masvidal. “Now you look at their bodies, they look like women that gave birth, you know? These dudes are supposed to be pro athletes, and you look at them now when they compete, and you’re like, “What the f*ck happened to so-and-so?” You look back at them six months ago, before USADA came in the building, this dude looked like a juggernaut. Now he don’t. I’m so thankful I never messed with that stuff.”

In closing, Masvidal praised the new and improved stricter drug testing, saying that fighters who felt invincible are no longer on top without the use of PEDs:

“I’ve had injuries in the past, but it hasn’t been those crazy-ass injuries that you hear about because people were juiced out of their minds doing things that they’re not supposed to,” said Masvidal. “A lot of those dudes that were in PRIDE, over there in Japan doing that craziness, when they came over here, you didn’t see them shining like that anymore, because it was somewhat regulated over here. They would test here and there, but now with USADA, everything changed. Motherf*ckers that thought that they were invincible, they’re finding out real quick that they’re far from it.”

What do you make of “Gamebred’s” remarks?

(Props: UFC on FOX)

In case you missed the incredible (and somewhat unsettling) three-round smash-up between Matt Brown and Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 40 on Saturday night, watch this quick recap of the action. Two quick takeaways: 1) Brown might be the toughest sumbitch in UFC history. 2) At the 0:47 mark, you will see the closest that MMA has ever come to a double-KO via body shots. I’m glad the fight turned out with a triumphant victory for the very deserving Immortal, but damn, that would have been awesome.

After the jump: Matt Brown’s post-fight interview, and highlights from Costa Philippou and Lorenz Larkin’s one-round slugfest.
