Heavyweight legend George Foreman has called on UFC superstar Conor McGregor to quit MMA and focus his attention on boxing.

‘Notorious’ was lined up to fight Manny Pacquiao later this year. The two men are managed by the same people and the crossover bout was all but done prior to McGregor’s rematch with Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi.

The boxing bout was scrapped when McGregor suffered a second-round TKO loss at the hands of Poirier, who used wrestling and leg kicks early before finishing the fight with fast, accurate punches.

Since losing McGregor has been pushing for a trilogy bout with Poirier.

Foreman though, believes the Irishman should forget about that and focus all his efforts on boxing professionally.

“It’s hard for McGregor to accept it but he’s a better puncher than he is in MMA,” Foreman told the Daily Star. “I’d rather see him in boxing matches now. I think if he has a fight with Pacquiao he can actually beat him – good rules, over 10 rounds, McGregor can beat him. He’s already adjusted to boxing, he’s not going to do good in MMA anymore. Pacquiao is very good as a matter of fact, but McGregor can beat him in a boxing match.”

McGregor has fought professionally just once in boxing. In 2017, he took on Floyd Mayweather in what was dubbed ‘The Money Fight’. To many peoples surprise, McGregor did well early and even won a few rounds. Ultimately though he gassed out and was stopped by Mayweather in round ten.

Pacquiao hasn’t fought since beating Keith Thurman over 12 rounds in July 2019.

The Filipino boxing legend is currently being linked to a fight with lightweight contender Ryan Garcia.

Do you agree with George Foreman? Should Conor McGregor quit MMA and focus his attention on boxing full-time?

The manager of Conor McGregor, Audie Attar, has claimed that Floyd Mayweather would decline a rematch against either Conor McGregor or Manny Pacquiao over fears he would lose.

Mayweather fought against Pacquiao in May 2015, a fight in which Floyd won via unanimous decision. He also fought against the former UFC double champion in 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena where he won via 10th round stoppage. However, given that history Attar believes that both McGregor and Pacquiao would beat the undefeated American in a rematch.

Speaking to Dubai Eye 103.8 Sport, Attar said “I do believe [if we see] Conor vs. Floyd again, [McGregor] beats him, I don’t think Floyd ever takes it. He’ll take a Logan Paul. He’ll take the young Japanese fighter he fought previously. I think that’s what he’s going to do. Floyd knows he would lose if he took on either Manny Pacquiao or Conor McGregor.”

Floyd Mayweather has an exhibition bout scheduled against YouTube star Logan Paul on February 20. This fight will be Mayweather’s second exhibition bout since he fought Tenshin Nasukawa in the RIZIN ring in 2018. Mayweather won the fight by first-round knockout.

Conor McGregor returns to action for the first time since January 2020 where he defeated UFC Veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone via first round stoppage which earned him a performance of the night bonus. McGregor will have his second career rematch next Saturday against Dustin Poirier at the UFC 257 main event, the event will take place inside the new Etihad Arena where 2000 fans are expected for the fight.

UFC star Conor McGregor is looking to cash in with an extremely high-profile boxing match with boxing great Manny Pacquiao. McGregor told “Big John” McCarthy and Josh Thomson in their most recent episode of the Weighing In podcast, negotiations are continuously picking up.

“That is certainly how the southpaw bout came about with Dustin,” McGregor explained. “And that, also, he’s number one in the rankings, I believe. He’s right atop the division. So, it makes sense to go back. But I certainly prepared for a good southpaw, and Manny is in the wings, waiting.

“I know those talks are intensifying, and I believe, sometime this year, maybe late this year, that bout will take place. And really, it will be on the discussions with the UFC where we go with this, what’s next.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)

In September, Pacquiao’s team confirmed the McGregor bout talks. But in December, it was Pacquiao stated that he wants his next fight against McGregor even with two other opponent options in Errol Spence and Terrence Crawford waiting in the wings for a potential high level match.

“I want to experience a fight with an MMA fighter,” Sen. Pacquiao stated to ABS-CBN News.

Meanwhile, UFC President Dana White doesn’t seem too excited about the potential super fight. He’d mich rather see The Notorious One have a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, should he be able to lure Khabib out of retirement.

Certainly lots of options on the table for the Irishmen here.

Who do you see Conor McGregor fighting in 2021? Khabib? Pacquiao? Both?
