The highly unexpected but intriguing pairing of former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and heavy hitting MMA legend Mark Hunt makes a great addition to an already stacked July 9 card. UFC 200 features championship fights at light-heavyweight, women’s bantamweight and an interim featherweight tilt to boot. Also boosting the milestone pay-per-view are ex-champions Johny Hendricks, TJ Dillashaw, Cain Velasquez and the featherweight interim titlists Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo.

The co-main event attraction between Hunt and Lesnar has received plenty of attention since just after UFC 199, where the WWE star’s return was first confirmed. The wrestler later confirmed in an interview with ESPN that ‘The Super Samoan’ would be a one off opponent in a deal between the UFC and WWE. The talk between the two has steadily heated up since the fight’s confirmation, and doesn’t look to be slowing down any.

As well as Lesnar’s prediction of finishing Hunt on the ground, he’s been subject to some (perhaps unfair?) criticism, along with the procedure itself, due to the exemption from the standard four month USADA testing period. He was randomly tested last week, but ‘The Super Samoan’ was rather annoyed at the waiver granted to Lesnar, making his trash talk just that little bit more serious.

Lesnar again mentioned how he’d stop Hunt if the fight goes to the ground, and that he feels wrestling will be the key to victory at UFC 200. After recently earning a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt, the giant grappler’s intentions in this bout couldn’t be anymore clear. But now Hunt has responded to these latest comments, telling MarkHunt.TV that he’s not surprised by Lesnar’s UFC 200 predictions:

“Look, I think Brock is going to do what he says he’s going to do, and that’s try to get me to the ground.” Hunt said. “I’m an ex K1 kickboxing world champ, so it’s no secret that stand up is my thing.”

“But he has to remember that he’s not the first guy I’ve fought who wants to take me down, I’ve been used to that sort of thing since i first started in MMA, the key for him will be not getting his lips punched into the crowd when he tries.”

“I’m going to do what I always do. Keep it simple and when I put my fists on his face it’s going to do more than shake the rust off, that’s it, he’ll be gone.” He said. “I don’t have anything against the guy or nothing but I think it’ll all be over within the first round.”

Mark Hunt’s somewhat fairy tale journey through the UFC heavyweight division could well finally lead to a title shot in the near future. That said, the currently unranked former champion Brock Lesnar could throw a spanner in the works with an unexpected win at UFC 200.

Tick tock.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is set to make his highly-anticipated Octagon return at this summer’s colossal UFC 200 card, against the heavy-hitting Australian knockout artist Mark Hunt.

While Lesnar’s biggest threat against the 42-year-old Hunt may lie in the ‘Super Samoan’s’ game-changing knockout power, it appears ‘The Beast’ is working a little more on his ground game instead and is making strides in the department as well.

The following video surfaced on Twitter Thursday evening, showing that Lesnar has earned his blue belt under jiu-jitsu coach Rodrigo Comprido:

Lesnar (5-3) is making his Octagon return after choosing to return to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), with his last UFC bout resulting in the former heavyweight champ being downed in the first round by current title challenger Alistair Overeem.

Hunt (12-10-1) is riding a two-fight winning streak, after most recently knocking out Frank Mir in their meeting at UFC Fight Night 85 in Australia this past March.

Hunt and Lesnar are set to get it on in the co-main event of UFC 200 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, 2016.

Brock Lesnar has understandably been the talk of the town since it was unveiled that the former champion would be returning to face Mark Hunt at UFC 200 at June 4’s UFC 199 from Los Angeles.

The decorated former UFC heavyweight champion has been out of fighting for almost five years, and he’s returning to face quite possibly the heaviest hitter in UFC history when he does.

But true to form, the always confident Lesnar believes this bout is his to win, telling ESPN that he matches up ‘very well’ with Hunt despite most pundits and fans believing the opposite to be true due to his supposed disdain for getting punched:

“I’m a grappler at heart, he’s a heavy hitter and that’s what the people want to see. The UFC ultimately culminated because we’re going to put guys with opposing disciplines against each other. I think I match up very well. Obviously, I need to work on my stand up game but I’m excited and enthusiastic of doing so. That’s the difference.”

Lesnar predictably put the onus of his performance on his NCAA Division I championship-level pedigree, an area in which Hunt hasn’t exactly been the most glaring example of success (just like Lesnar hasn’t been in the standup game). With that established, Lesnar boldly predicted that his ground game will be key, and if Hunt indeed hits the ground, the fight will be over:

“He’s a heavy-hitting, hard-headed human being and hopefully my athleticism and my Octagon awareness and all those things and my wrestling background can play a key factor in me winning this fight.

“If Mark Hunt ends up on the ground, the fight’s over.”

As for his extremely long break from MMA, Lesnar doesn’t foresee that being a problem, nor does he envision his age (38 years) being one, either. Lesnar cited Dan Henderson’s exhilarating recent knockout of Hector Lombard at UFC 199 as proof that age is not a determining factor:

“I don’t really have any concerns. Hopefully we get the rust out in training camp and I think we are. We will. If not, the first punch from Mark will knock the rest of the rust off in the first 10 seconds and then look out.

“Age is not a factor I don’t believe. I really don’t. You’ve got a guy like Dan Henderson, just Saturday night, he’s 46 years old and fighting like he’s a young man. I feel great. I’m excited for this fight.”

Even after shooting down any possible criticism of his comeback, however, Lesnar rightfully acknowledged he’s in for a tough test against Hunt:

“It’s a tough challenge ahead of me. I believe Mark has a tough challenge ahead of him. He’s never faced an opponent such as myself and I’m looking forward to this bout.”

It’s hardly a secret that mixed martial arts (MMA) fans watch the UFC for its heart-pumping knockouts that its most revered stars produce in high-pressure situations.

True, some may watch the UFC for its combination of power and skill, and others still may tune in for their own appreciation of wrestling and/or grappling, but if you were to poll every fight fan out there, you’d most likely receive an overwhelming response that most fans love MMA for the exhilarating knockouts.

That makes the fighters who often knock their opponents out obvious fan favorites, and indeed many have died by the sword attempting to become one of these crowd-pleasing stars. The ones who actually made it through and achieved greatness thanks to their fists sit as some the shining lights of the sport, with spoils, adoration, and fear all coming in droves.

It takes a special kind of fighter to sit among the heaviest hitters in the UFC. Here are the 12 most powerful punchers in the UFC right now.

Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell knows a thing or two about getting hit inside the UFC’s Octagon, as he is the former king of the 205-pound division. Liddell made his name as one of the greatest knockout artists of his era, dispatching foes such as Kevin Randleman, Randy Couture, Renato Sobral and many others in his prime years.

When he sees former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar compete inside the Octagon, he sees a man who is afraid to get hit. It’s no secret, and no fighter really wants to get hit, but ‘The Iceman’ feels Lesnar is particularly vulnerable to strikes.

“He was a good college wrestler, but he is afraid to get hit. That makes things dangerous — when you have a guy that can punch, and if he can stop Brock’s takedowns a little bit, then [Brock] is in a lot of trouble.

I mean, he is tough and has heart because he will still fight and still keep coming and I will give him that. He has heart and he fights hard, but he is very afraid of the punch. So you just have to start punching him!

Brock Lesnar

Lesnar (5-3) hasn’t seen the inside of an Octagon since suffering a devastating first round TKO loss to current title challenger Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 in 2011. ‘The Beast’ was once recognized as ‘the baddest man on the planet’, as he carried the UFC heavyweight championship around his waist once upon a time.

The former NCAA Division I heavyweight champion secured the coveted strap when he defeated Randy Couture in the main event of their clash at UFC 91, but would go on to drop the title to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 after two successful defenses.

Lesnar and Hunt are set to co-headline the monstrous UFC 200 card this summer, live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, 2016.
