One of the running narratives heading into the highly anticipated Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt showdown at UFC 200 is the belief that Lesnar, who is fighting perhaps the heaviest hitter in all of MMA, doesn’t like to get hit. This is a point that UFC Hall Of Famer Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell brought up while breaking down the upcoming bout.

Liddell spoke with HollywoodLife.com this week and gave his opinion on the upcoming Lesnar-Hunt fight.

“He was a good college wrestler, but he is afraid to get hit. That makes things dangerous — when you have a guy that can punch, and if he can stop Brock’s takedowns a little bit, then [Brock] is in a lot of trouble.”

Liddell continued, explaining that while Lesnar no doubt has heart, he is “very afraid of the punch.”

“I mean, he is tough and has heart because he will still fight and still keep coming and I will give him that. He has heart and he fights hard, but he is very afraid of the punch. So you just have to start punching him!”

The Lesnar-Hunt fight is scheduled to take place as part of the upcoming landmark UFC 200 event, which features the highly anticipated rematch for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

UFC 200 is set to go down live from the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, July 9, 2016.

Former UFC Champ: Brock Lesnar Won’t Be Better At UFC 200

Following months of seemingly endless Conor McGregor news, rumor, and speculation, the hype of former champion Brock Lesnar’s return has overshadowed even ‘The Notorious’ in MMA newswaves of late.

With Lesnar returning to the Octagon for a highly anticipated showdown with Mark Hunt in the co-main event of July 9’s UFC 200 from Las Vegas, it seems the fighting community is torn about just what kind of shape ‘The Beast’ will actually come back in.

But one man already has his mind firmly made up, and that’s fellow former UFC champion and pro wrestler Josh Barnett. During an appearance on yesterday’s (Mon., June 13, 2016) “The MMA Hour,” Barnett gave a less-than-stellar prediction of how Lesnar will return to the cage:

“I don’t know what he’s done from then until now, but being out of it as long as he has, I don’t think he’s going to be stepping into the cage a better fighter than he was when he left.”

Much of the doubt surrounding Lesnar’s ability to win at UFC 200 surrounds his well known disdain for taking punches to the face, a glaring weak spot against the power-punching Hunt to be sure. Barnett furthered that opinion, noting that while there are ways around it, Lesnar is in for a tough fight:

“I don’t know, if he doesn’t like to get hit, that’s one thing, but you can work your way around that to a degree,” Barnett said. “You can at least try to condition him to get more used to the idea of it with the right kind of drills and the right kind of set-ups. But at the same time, you need to make sure that that guy can go in there and when everything is as tumultuous as it is inside that cage, when the fire is on, he can go through it and not get burnt.”

Yet even despite the fact he’s set to face arguably the hardest hitter in the history of the sport, Barnett still won’t rule Lesnar out. If he’s going to compete with ‘The Super Samoan,’ however, Barnett said Lesnar has to be at the gym training like a fighter with real fighters, and that’s something he doesn’t believe is going on with Lesnar. If he does not, according to ‘The Warmaster,’ then his massive potential will continue to go untapped:

“Of course he has a chance. He’s a tank,” Barnett said. “He’s got an incredible wrestling background. He’s a great physical specimen. He’s no dummy. Brock is a smart guy, and I still think he is a massive wealth of untapped potential. It’s just that – it has not been tapped. It has not been approached the right way. I would be surprised if his prep leading up to this is really what myself, hell, I’m at the gym right now training my fighters that all have matches coming up. And as a trainer, as someone that’s trained people for world championship matches, I just don’t think that the right approach is being taken with him.”

Daniel Cormier Compares Brock Lesnar’s UFC Return To Christmas

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar’s return at next month’s (July 9, 2016) UFC 200 has sure over shadowed the event’s highly anticipated main event between reigning 205-pound champion Daniel “DC” Cormier and ex-champion Jon “Bones” Jones. Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar’s return at next month’s (July 9, 2016) UFC 200 has sure over shadowed the event’s highly anticipated main event between reigning 205-pound champion Daniel “DC” Cormier and ex-champion Jon “Bones” Jones.

Cormier has no issue with this, however, as he recently compared Lesnar’s return to ‘Christmas time’ on yesterday’s (June 13, 2016) edition of The MMA Hour:

“So I started to ask everyone when I heard about it because, you know, I got it from a pretty reliable source. I messaged Brock. I said, ‘Hey Brock, is it Christmas time in the Cormier household? Because Brock Lesnar equals pay-per-view buys.’ But he didn’t respond. Then finally after the commercial ran, I got a response from Brock that said, ‘Merry Christmas DC.’ And I was like ‘You got to be kidding me!’ I had to take a moment, sit in the corner a little bit and try to compose myself. It’s tremendous, man.”

In Cormier’s opinion, his rematch with Jones is the biggest fight available in mixed martial arts (MMA) as of now. With that being said, adding Lesnar’s return into the mix should provide for fireworks in Las Vegas:

“It’s a big event; you got Brock Lesnar who you can argue is the biggest star in UFC history. And I believe you have the most important fight that UFC can put on right now. I love Nate, love Conor, it’s a huge fight, but what is it for? It isn’t for a belt. It’s not going to lead to a title shot, it’s a fight that people just want to see because it’s an attraction. When it comes to Jon and I, you have the most important fight UFC can put on at the most important event.”

The card will feature three title fights including the main event, and Lesnar will face off with veteran slugger and legendary knockout artist Mark Hunt in the co-main event.

Is UFC 200 the biggest event of all-time?

It’s been a crazy couple weeks for the UFC with game changing events, mind blowing news and the new champion crowned at 185 pounds. A lot of the madness of the past fortnight really stemmed from UFC 199 on June 4, as the promotion put on a stacked event in California, and teased the return of former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. ‘Can you see me now?’ reverberated over the loud speakers at the end of the spine tingling UFC 200 promo video, as even Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg were stunned by Lesnar’s presence in the clip.

It was later confirmed that the WWE crossover would indeed be making his way back to the UFC octagon, and against the heavy handed K-1 champion Mark Hunt. To top it off, the awesome pay-per-view card was finished with a stunning knockout win in the main event for Michael Bisping, as he shattered Luke Rockhold in the first round with a barrage of punches.

BispingStopsRockhold

Our good friends over at Submission Radio had UFC legend Don Frye in to talk all things MMA recently, and it was a very eventful interview. ‘The Predator’ discussed the American Kickboxing Academy, Luke Rockhold, Brock Lesnar and the WWE star’s USADA waiver that has everyone grabbing their pitch forks.

On Rockhold losing Frye maintains his stance against AKA:

“You know, them boys down there at AKA are a bunch of dumbasses. Someone doesn’t know how to train them or they don’t know how to train themselves. Shit, they’re all hurt. They’re all hurt all the time. They pull out of more fights than they compete in. Somebody better walk in there and take control of the situation, cause they’re doing something wrong.”

don frye

Offering Rockhold some advice Frye explains:

“Find a new gym. Find a new trainer, you know, one that will protect you. Get some new training partners, ones that will protect you. Back when I was competing, my training partners, they sacrificed their bodies for me to make sure I got to the fight unscathed. You know, I was healthy. If we were falling, they’d take the fall. If we’re sparring, they would taper back and they would take the punches. That’s what you’re supposed to do. That’s what training partners are paid to do.”

On to the more hot topics of the month, and Don Frye has some very interesting opinions on the UFC 200 co-main event between Mark Hunt and Brock Lesnar.

Anderson Silva’s greatest rival claims to have the scoop on the all-time great former champion’s next fight.

Speaking during a recent episode of his “You’re Welcome” podcast, retired UFC star Chael Sonnen revealed that Silva is supposedly facing Uriah Hall at July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 from the brand-new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

No. 5-ranked Silva and No. 9-ranked Hall were originally scheduled to fight at May 14’s UFC 198 from Curitiba, Brazil, but a gall bladder injury requiring surgery forced ‘The Spider’ off of the card. It’s still unknown at to whether or not this bout will truly become a reality, but if it indeed does, there’s no question that UFC 200 would be the most stacked event of all-time on paper after the recent addition of Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt last weekend.

Arguably the UFC’s most decorated fighter with wins for most consecutive wins, title defenses, and finishes, ‘The Spider’ has unfortunately fallen on hard times after losing his belt in shocking fashion to Chris Weidman in July of 2013. After recovering from the broken leg he suffered in his rematch with Weidman in late 2013, Silva returned to beat Nick Diaz in a rather uninspired affair at UFC 183. The win was later changed to a no contest, however, as Silva tested positive for a number of performance-enhancing drugs and other banned medication.

A yearlong suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) ended with ‘The Spider’ facing off with current champion Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC Fight Night 84 this February. In a controversy-laden affair, ‘The Count’ would go on to win a close unanimous decision after getting nearly knocked out by a Silva flying knee when he went to motion to his mouthpiece, which had fallen out of his mouth at the very end of the third round. Bisping would go on to knock out Luke Rockhold on short notice in the main event of last week’s UFC 199.

Hall, meanwhile, was last seen losing a decision to surging prospect Robert Whittaker at UFC 193. He’s won five out of his last seven bouts, including his highlight reel spin kick finish of Gegard Mousasi at last September’s UFC Japan. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) legend has consistently shown a trend of alternating between amazing stoppages and lackluster performances, but many still believe a potential showdown with ‘The Spider’ would be one of the finest striking battles that could go down in mixed martial arts.

While Silva’s team recently said a UFC 200 return was unlikely, Sonnen claims to have knowledge otherwise. If it’s true, UFC 200 just got that much bigger.
