After knocking out former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir with another walk-off finish in March, fan favorite knockout artist Mark Hunt aimed to return at the UFC’s long-awaited New York debut at November’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden.

However, his employers apparently have other plans for “The Super Samoan” that involves him stepping back into the octagon much sooner.

Speaking with The Daily Telegraph, Hunt said that UFC President Dana White told him to stay ready for July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 pay-per-view from Las Vegas:

“I asked Dana about New York but he has other plans,’’ Hunt said. “Wants me fighting sooner. I’ve only just got back in the gym but my body is feeling good. So it could be UFC 200, who knows?”

Pressed to reveal more details of his potential return this summer, Hunt remained mum:

“Look, I’m just the good ‘ol employee, Mr Hunt. So I’m not allowed to say anything. But I have been told to be ready. It’s all a bit hard to follow at the moment but it seems I could be that fill in guy somewhere. You know, when somebody has a problem you call me. Mr Reliable.

“I’ll take a fight on a couple of days notice … (laughs) even if it means a thrashing.”

Indeed the legendary power striker is a good employee, as he’s filled in on short notice in a high-profile bout before, replacing former champion Cain Velasquez against Fabricio Werdum in the main event of November 2014’s UFC 180, a fight he was largely winning before eating a fight-ending flying knee from “Vai Cavalo.”

As for whom he’d potentially fight at UFC 200, a title shot is out of the question with new champion Stipe Miocic taking on surging contender Alistair Overeem in the main event of September’s UFC 203 from Cleveland, but he could most certainly replace Velasquez, who is set to take on Travis Browne at the massive midsummer spectacle, again.

But as usual, it doesn’t matter for “The Super Samoan,” who said he will take on anyone at anytime in his last run at a UFC title:

“All of them. When I spoke with Dana I requested every one of the top five guys. One after the other. I said ‘how about him, or him, or him’. This will be my last run. I’ve got six fights left and I want another shot at that title.”

Mark Hunt just might get his rematch with Junior dos Santos after all.

It was reported on “UFC Tonight” Wednesday that the heavyweight has signed a new contract with the UFC. While no terms were announced on the show, an outlet in New Zealand is reporting that the deal is for six fights over 30 months and in the multi-million dollar variety.

Hunt (12-10-1) has resurrected his career over the past six years, going 6-3-1 including a recent knockout of Frank Mir. He’s also topped Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve and Ben Rothwell, with his three losses coming to current UFC champion Fabricio Werdum, current No. 1 contender Stipe Miocic and dos Santos.

Many mixed martial arts (MMA) fans tune in to witness absolute carnage. It’s part of the human makeup to want to view such destruction, so it’s hard to blame them.

With undoubtedly the richest talent pool in the sport of MMA, the UFC has seen countless elite fighters wage war inside of the Octagon. Blood has been shed, foreheads have been cut, hands have been raised and heads have clattered off the cold canvas (shout out to Conor McGregor for the lingo).

These cage collisions offer a little bit of everything, but they all encompass the heart and determination that is needed to succeed in MMA. Whether it be a champion defending his belt, a prospect in search of recognition, or a veteran seeking redemption, throwing caution to the wind and digging deep is always part of the equation.

In order to pay tribute to these unforgettable back-and-forth exchanges, we dive deep into the top 10 best brawls in UFC history. Enjoy.

Junior dos Santos may have been pegged as being on the downside of his elite MMA career, but he proved that theory extremely wrong when he dominated top-ranked Ben Rothwell in the main event of yesterday’s (Sun., April 10, 2016) UFC Fight Night 86 from the Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia.

The victory put the previously No. 5-ranked “Cigano” in line for another big fight in the relatively barren heavyweight ranks, and indeed there is a small but strong list of potential opponents awaiting him after their current match-ups are done.

However, there’s another top heavyweight who doesn’t have a fight booked and wants a bout with dos Santos, and that’s his UFC 160 opponent, fan favorite Mark Hunt. “The Super Samoan,” who lost to a dos Santos spinning wheel kick at the epic event back in 2013, called out for a rematch with “Cigano” on Twitter immediately after his win over Rothwell:

Although Hunt lost the “Fight of the Night” bout by highlight reel knockout, “The Super Samoan” undoubtedly gave dos Santos all he could handle, rocking him with his trademark massive shots early and often in the fight.

After the loss to dos Santos snapped a four-fight win streak that had him on the verge of title contention, Hunt went on to participate in his classic brawl with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva that ended in a draw at UFC Fight Night 33 that December. He knocked out Roy Nelson in September 2014 before losing two straight to current UFC 198 title fight participants Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic.

But Hunt has since rebounded well with knockout wins over Silva in the rematch and Frank Mir at March’s UFC Fight Night 85 from his homeland of Brisbane, Australia. The results suggest that Hunt could deserve a rematch with “Cigano,” and there’s little to no doubt the fight would provide fireworks once again.

There are other top-ranked heavyweights the promotion could be saving dos Santos for, however.

Following his victory over Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 86 in Zagreb, Croatia on Sunday afternoon, Junior Dos Santos is already being called out by other top UFC Heavyweights.

JDS defeated Rothwell via unanimous decision on Sunday and after his victory, he is already being challenged to a rematch by “The Super Samoan.”

Mark Hunt took to social media shortly after the conclusion of the JDS-Rothwell fight on Sunday to officially challenge Dos Santos to a rematch.

Dos Santos, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, first fought Hunt back at UFC 160 in May of 2013. JDS finished Hunt via spinning hook kick knockout in the third round of the fight.

“Junior Dos Santos — let’s do it,” Hunt wrote after the UFN 86 event on Sunday. “Dana [White] would love a rematch.”

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir returned at UFC Brisbane to face fellow legend Mark Hunt in the UFC Fight Night 85 main event. It wasn’t to be Mir’s night, as he fell by one punch knockout to the heavy handed ‘Super Samoan,’ but the 36 year old’s troubles didn’t end in the octagon that night. As well as having to consider his future options after such a crushing and one sided loss, Mir was this week notified of a potential USADA (United States Anti Doping Agency) violation. The test results indicate he failed a dope screen on the night of the fight against Hunt.

It’s well known that Mir was a user of testosterone replacement therapy when TRT was the ‘in thing,’ but until this point he’s never actually failed a drug test, and his physique against Hunt in Brisbane would argue against the results of this test. Of course it’s not all about looks, but you could point out that Mir looked perhaps more out of shape than in his entire career in Australia. Here’s his statement to fans on Facebook:

mir

So the word is now out that it was anabolic steroid metabolites that were found in Mir’s system, and he spoke during the phone booth podcast yesterday to give his reasoning. Thanks to BloodyElbow.com for the quotes:

“I couldn’t tell you a single restaurant I remember eating at. I even remember calling James and saying ‘do you remember where we ate?’ I had to write down all of the places we went. And even if I could figure it out; let’s say someone could document where I went. You’re telling me USADA are gonna go down, and, on my behalf, try to test all the different meats to see if, well, you know, kanagaroos are wild and this guy wanted to beef em’ up so he bought something that was very abudnant – in the study that I did – oral turinabol could be bought in powdered form.

You put it on the food and you bulk up your livestock, and you could sell it into the stores because now you get more bang for your buck. An animal that takes two years to reach maturity, you know, muscle weight, now in four months he’s bigger than he’s ever gonna be and you slaughter him. It’s a common practice. I don’t know, I’m not pointing the finger any where, I’m just saying there’s so many loopholes for me to sit there and go ‘where did it come from?’ Hell man, I don’t know, I really don’t. All I know is that I didn’t willingly take anything.”
