Canadian mixed martial arts journalist, Ariel Helwani has responded to what he labelled a “weird comment” from long-time UFC color commentary staple, Joe Rogan – in which the comedian and podcast host suggested Helwani had lured comments from UFC welterweight, Sean Brady following his October loss to Belal Muhammad, during a post-fight interview.

Ariel Helwani responds to comments from UFC caller, Joe Rogan

Rogan, a long-time color commentator and Octagon interviewer for the UFC, recently featured the above-mentioned, Muhammad on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience – in which Muhammad revealed to him that Brady had confirmed how following his TKO loss, his family and himself had received death threats from disgruntled bettors and fans.

As made knowledge to Helwani through a fan question on his show, The MMA Hour – Rogan alleged that the reporter had lured those comments from Philadelphia native, Brady, leading to a passionate response from the former.

“What the f*ck is that all about?” Ariel Helwani said. “First of all, I didn’t get Sean Brady to say that. Sean Brady just offered that up on his own. How could I have gotten him to say that? And what does that even mean in general: ‘Ariel Helwani likes to get people to say things’?”

“[That’s] especially rich coming from the guy who was pushing false narratives and false information and fake information and all kinds of nonsense over the past two years to the point where people were demanding that he get dropped from Spotify,” Ariel Helwani said. “Which I never agreed with. But I mean, of course, we know what the history is with Joe (Rogan) – he’s Dana’s (White) boy. He’s always gonna have his back. But what are we talking about? ‘Ariel Helwani likes to get people to say things.’ I ask questions, people answer them, I move on.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Islam Makhachev voices displeasure with the promotion of UFC 284: ‘They could have done a better job’

Ahead of his upcoming UFC 284 headliner against featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski in two weeks’ time in Perth, Australia – undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev has voiced his concern with the organization’s promotion of the bout, given the stakes up for grabs between the pound-for-pound pack leaders.

Makhachev, who will attempt his first defence of the undisputed lightweight title at the RAC Arena ‘Down Under’, grabbed the vacant crown at UFC 280 back in October on ‘Fight Island’ – submitting former champion, Charles Oliveira with a dominant second round arm-triangle choke.

As for Volkanovski, the New South Wales favorite will defend his status as pound-for-pound number one against Islam Makhachev, while also attempting to add lightweight spoils to his featherweight crown.

Most recently, the dominant 145lbs champion handed former division kingpin, Max Holloway a third career loss in their UFC 276 trilogy co-main event slot during International Fight Week last summer.

Islam Makhachev questions the UFC’s strategy in promoting his February return

Immediately pitted together following Makhachev’s victory over Oliveira back in October in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the American Kickboxing Academy mainstay has voiced his displeasure given the apparent lack of promotion from the UFC for their return to Australia for the first time since 2019.

“I’m unhappy with the promotion of UFC 284,” Islam Makhachev said ahead of his title defense opposite Alexander Volkanovski. “(It) feels like the UFC could have done a better job promotion the fight.”

Undefeated in his last 11 consecutive Octagon appearances, Makhachev would become the first Russian fighter to top the official pound-for-pound UFC rankings with a win over Volkanovski since teammate and former lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, before he bowed out of the sport in 2020.

However, despite Nurmagomedov’s presence in Makahchev’s corner for his title coronation against Oliveira, the fan-favorite sambo ace will miss this month’s trip to Australia to corner the undisputed lightweight best.

After a four-year layoff, Garnett finally returned to the cage when he faced french fighter Miguel Haro on Hexagone MMA 6.

It only took 20 seconds for the UK MMA Pioneer to return to winning ways and show that he is still at the highest level in MMA. Now with a solid win under his belt, Garnett wants his shot at Hexagone gold.

During his absence from competition, Dean Garnett has spent a vast amount of time coaching, having cornered the likes of Mohammed Mokaev, Liam Mccracken, and rising prospect Marlon Jones.

DeanGarnett calls for a title shot in 7 weeks’ time back in Paris!

Following his big win, Garnett spoke with LowKickMMA, making it clear what he wants next:

“A three-round decision win wouldn’t of warranted a title shot, I wouldn’t of asked for one. But to go out and put him away better than anyone else has, it left me in a position where I could ask for a title shot on the promotion next”

After such a convincing win it seems hard to deny a title shot, especially considering the level competed at and all the possibilities that come with a champion as well respected and versed in the sport.

“I just want to take it one step at a time, I know that Hexagone are back in Paris. Seven weeks, this camp was about getting fit but now I get to go back and sharpen my tools and beat a real high-level opponent next.”

Anthony Joshua Francis Ngannou Boxing UFC

Matchroom Boxing leader, Eddie Hearn has revealed he has spoken with former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou amid the Cameroonian’s departure from the organization, following speculation that the Batie striker is set to make a transition to professional boxing in his next combat sports walk.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the Dana White-led UFC, saw his contractual obligations with the promotion come to an end officially on December 9. – before he subsequently departed the organization officially earlier this month.

As a result, Ngannou was officially stripped of the undisputed heavyweight crown, with former light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones set to return at UFC 285 on March 4. in a vacant title fight against former interim heavyweight titleholder, Ciryl Gane.

Linked initially with a potential fight against WBC heavyweight champion and Queensberry Promotion’s mainstay, Tyson Fury, Ngannou has welcomed a potential fight – particularly a hybrid-rules pairing.

Eddie Hearn weighs up potential Francis Ngannou, Anthony Joshua showdown

However, according to Hearn – who revealed he had held initial talks with Ngannou, he believes the former UFC kingpin should tackle former world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua in his professional boxing debut.

“We’ll see what happens,” Eddie Hearn told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “For me, we would love to be involved with his (Francis Ngannou) career. The Anthony Joshua fight is probably among the biggest fights that can be made in any sport. Obviously, the Tyson Fury fight is there for him as well.”

“I was pretty captivated by him,” Hearn explained. “I’m not a massive MMA fan, but I still respect what he’s achieved there. But I just found him to be an outstanding gentleman. We’ll see how it goes.”

Hearn further claimed that should Ngannou fight Joshua – and land a stunning knockout victory over the former two-time heavyweight champion, it would likely go down as the biggest upset in the history of the sport.

“The UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and the two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua; the complete unknown,” Hearn said. “The unknown of how good is Francis Ngannou? We know he punches extremely hard, if he lands one on Anthony Joshua, is it the greatest upset of all time? Or will AJ completely streamroll him and you’ll see Francis Ngannou get knocked out? That’s the attraction of that fight – the unknown.”

UFC lightweight contender, Michael Chandler has shared his thoughts on the conversation regarding the better division champion between former gold holder, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and recently minted titleholder, Islam Makhachev – ahead of the latter’s UFC 284 headliner in two weeks’ time.

Chandler, the current #5 ranked lightweight contender, has yet to book his next Octagon outing following UFC 281 back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden – suffering a third round rear-naked choke loss to former interim champion, Dustin Poirier.

As for Khabib, the former undisputed lightweight champion retired from active competition back in 2020 – boasting a 29-0 record following a successful title unification win over Justin Gaethje.

And as for Khabib’s protégé, Makhachev, the American Kickboxing Academy staple managed to clinch the vacant lightweight crown back in October against Charles Oliveira. And is slated to headline UFC 284 this month in Perth, Australia – tackling featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski in his first attempted title defense.

Michael Chandler breaks down the comparisons between Khabib and Islam

Breaking down the abilities of both during a recent appearance on Believe You Me, Chandler admitted that while Makhachev is a force to be reckoned with, Khabib brought a gritty and nasty side to his Octagon performance en route to his championship reign – touting him as the better overall fighter.

“Khabib (Nurmagomedov) [is better],” Michael Chandler said. “Only because we haven’t seen – I don’t know if I wanna call it aggression. I think it is aggression. When Khabib fought, and when he bear-hugged somebody, it was aggressive. Like, he wanted to break your spine. Islam (Makhachev), very effective, will take you guys down. But [with Khabib], it was like, ‘I wanna break your spine.’”

“Khabib was very active on top, constantly trying to catch a wrist and do damage,” Michael Chandler explained. “He went from [a] brilliant wrestler, ‘I wanna break your back,’ to like, straight up sledgehammer, ‘I wanna punch a hole through your head,’ while trash talking – that is unheard of.” (Transcribed by MMA News)
