Khamzat Chimaev, Nate Diaz

Khamzat Chimaev is concerned Nate Diaz would not be able to make it the full five rounds.

The rising prospect is slated to take on Diaz in the headlining bout of UFC 279 on Sep. 10 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Diaz goes into what could be his final outing under the UFC banner. Chimaev opened as a huge betting favorite with most people seemingly counting the grizzled veteran out.

Khamzat Chimaev expects a quick finish over Nate Diaz at UFC 279

During the Wednesday media day ahead of their showdown, Chimaev shared a prediction for his fight. While he does not see Diaz going past round one, he hopes the Stockton native can go the full distance.

“What he going to do? (The) fight (is) at 170,” Chimaev told MMA Junkie and other reporters at UFC 279 media day. “I can fight at heavyweight as well. I don’t think that guy is going to survive one round. I hope he can survive five rounds. It’s good for him. Show his heart and go away from the UFC being a warrior. If I beat him first round everyone is going to say the guy is too old and ‘Uncle Diaz is going to have to go home.’”

Chimaev is happy about the opportunity & will bring war

It will also mark Chimaev’s first main event fight, and that too on pay-per-view. Chimaev expressed his appreciation of the opportunity and stated that he will be ready for a war.

“All moments in UFC are big moments for me,” Chimaev said. “It feels amazing I’m fighting Nate Diaz. One of the guys who has been like 15 years in the UFC. One of the legends. Maybe it’s his last fight. Who knows. I’m happy. I’m going to go take his head off,” Chimaev said. “I come here, don’t take the points and play the games. I come here to smash somebody and take his head.”

Michael Bisping, Anderson Silva, Jake Paul

Michael Bisping believes Jake Paul might be out of his depth for taking a fight with Anderson Silva.

Internet sensation Paul made headlines earlier this week after confirming the rumored news of his upcoming boxing match with MMA legend Anderson Silva. For his sixth outing as a combat sports athlete, “The Problem Child” will take to the ring against Silva on Oct. 29 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Michael Bisping cautions Jake Paul for Anderson Silva fight: ‘This might blow up & backfire in his f**king face’

In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, “The Count” shared his thoughts on the upcoming crossover megafight. He believes Paul may not fully understand the risk he will be taking and gave him a distressing reality check.

“He probably thinks he has no power, he’s gonna find out that isn’t the case,” Bisping said (ht Give Me Sport). “Anderson when you look at him seems kind of weak and skinny, he’s very strong, he’s way bigger in person than what you think he is.”

“This might be a gamble. The reason Jake has took this is because of the name value, and because it will sell. It should sell, it’s not guaranteed, because Anderson isn’t who he used to be. But he thinks this is the formula he’s had all along. I think Jake thinks this ticks all those boxes, but this might blow up and backfire in his f***ing face.”

His take on Paul’s upcoming matchup may seem harsh, but as someone who has shared the octagon with Silva, Paul would be better off paying attention to his words.

Michael Bisping stood toe-to-toe with the legendary Silva in Feb. 2016. “The Spider” almost knocked out Bisping with a flying knee that appeared to land after the buzzer. However, “The Count” was determined and recovered to score a unanimous decision victory.

Do you agree with Michael Bisping about the Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva fight?

Leon Edwards doubts Kamaru Usman’s sincerity, happiness following KO loss: ‘He’s overdoing it’

Former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman recently admitted how a wave of relief washed over him following his UFC 278 title loss to Leon Edwards last month in Salt Lake City, however, the newly-minted titleholder has his reservations regarding the sincerity of the Auchi native’s words, and happiness since losing gold.

Edwards, who headlined UFC 278 last month in Utah against two-time foe, Usman, managed to avenge a prior December 2015 unanimous decision loss to the defending welterweight champion with a rallying, fifth round knockout success – courtesy of a stunning left high kick.

In the time since, the Birmingham native has been linked with an immediate title trilogy rubber match against Usman in the U.K. next year – in what would come as a blockbuster homecoming for the new titleholder.

Speaking rather openly on his title loss and first career knockout defeat against Edwards last month, Usman revealed during numerous interviews how he was never really attached to the undisputed welterweight title, and claimed that a wave of relief washed over him following the upset loss.

Leon Edwards doubts Kamaru Usman’s sincerity amid his ongoing media tour following UFC 278

Sharing his thoughts on Usman’s recent comments amid his knockout loss, Edwards claims the Nigerian is “overdoing” his entire press tour post-UFC 278 – doubting the sincerity of the former’s apparent happiness and acceptance in defeat.

“It’s weird right?” Leon Edwards said during a recent interview with Ariel Helwani. “To go from this cocky guy to, ‘Oh, I’m happy I got knocked out, and it’s a relief’ – I just don’t believe it. For me, I’d hope I never get to a stage where a loss – you know, I’m happy for a loss. Yeah, it’s weird to handle it – it’s the only way he (Kamaru Usman) could. He couldn’t come out and be like, salty. I think he’s handling it the only way he can handle it. We’ll see, I don’t know.”

“I don’t watch much of him,” Leon Edwards explained. “I saw the Joe Rogan thing (podcast) yesterday, I think – I saw bits of it, not the full interview. It is weird the way he’s going along with it. I feel like he’s overdoing it. It is what it is. He was the champion – you thought you couldn’t be beat, you’ve been beat. That’s just the game. The game is the game, right? That’s the game.”

A middleweight division matchup between one-time welterweight title challenger, and #9 ranked contender, Darren Till, and the streaking #13 rated challenger, Dricus du Plessis, is currently targeted to take place at UFC 282 on December 10. from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As per an initial report this Tuesday night from ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto, verbal agreements between Till and South African finisher, du Plessis are in place for the middleweight pair to share the Octagon at UFC 282.

Darren Till (@darrentill2) said he’d return before the end of the year, before a monster “comeback” in 2023,” Okamoto tweeted. “The return is in the works. Till vs. Dricus du Plessis (@dricusduplessis) is verbally agreed for UFC 282 on Dec. 10.”

In the midst of a two-fight losing skid, Liverpool native, Darren Till last featured in the main event of UFC Vegas 36 back in September of last year against Derek Brunson, suffering a thrid round rear-naked choke loss.

Darren Till is without a victory since November 2019

Till was scheduled to co-headline UFC London back in July, however, was ruled from a rescheduled bout against Jack Hermansson due to an undisclosed injury.

Prior to his loss against Brunson, Till dropped a unanimous judging loss against recent UFC Paris winner and former middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker. Till’s most recent professional win came in the form of a split decision triumph over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244 in November 2019.

17-2 as a professional, du Plessis, a former KSW middleweight champion, who holds a win over recent ONE Championship recruit, Roberto Soldic – has so far enjoyed an impressive run of three straight victories in his Octagon tenure.

Debuting with a first round knockout win over promotional alum, Markus Perez, du Plessis would then stop Trevin Giles with strikes, before comfortably defeating a bloodied, Brad Tavares at UFC 276 in July during International Fight Week.
