Footage has emerged of spectators loudly chanting “free Joe Rogan” during the UFC 271 card last weekend at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas – amid the recent controversy surrounding the longtime promotional color commentator.

Rogan, who has received criticizm during the last number of weeks, recently came under fire after a viral video surfaced on social media detailing no less than 23 instances of Rogan using the n-word.

In January, Rogan and his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience was accused of promoting and spreading “dangerous misinformation” on his platform with Spotify, particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as vaccinations and methods of dealing with symptoms of the viral infection.

Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek claimed that he didn’t believe it was right to attempt to silence Joe Rogan amid his recent controversy

Amid his most recent controversy, Rogan, who was initially booked to feature in the commentary booth of UFC 271 on Saturday last alongside play-by-play lead, Jon Anik, and former two-weight champion, Daniel Cormier, was pulled from the broadcast late on Friday night.

The promotion released a statement detailing how Rogan had a scheduling conflict that would prevent him from taking commentary duties at the pay-per-view event, with former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping replacing him in the booth – making his flagship event bow.

However, following the culmination of the event, UFC president, Dana White confirmed that the statement regarding a scheduling conflict for Rogan was “bullsh*t” – claiming that the latter simply did not want to work the event, as well as maintaining he was unaware when Rogan would return to the broadcast.

During the event, multiple Twitter accounts detailed how spectators at the sold-out Toyota Center had continually chanted “free Joe Rogan” during the card, amid the recent controversy surrounding the longtime podcast host, standup comedian, and commentator.

Prior to the event, UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya also attempted to defend Rogan during a pre-fight press conference for UFC 271.

“First off, let me take this one, hold up,” Israel Adesanya said. “I’m black, I can take this one. Look… there’s a lot of c*nts in this game. There’s a lot of snakes in this game. I’ve been in this fight game since 2008. And Joe Rogan is one of the nicest, coolest, humble motherf*ckers I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Understand that. You know it’s – f*ck the noise, man. You know what they’re trying to do. You can’t control the man (Joe Rogan) and he’s got the biggest platform in the world right now.”

While Michael Chandler wasn’t a fan, Israel Adesanya entered the octagon ready for war but actually participated in what was a very technical and methodical chess match against Robert Whittaker at UFC 271.

The first round featured a lot of excitement with Adesanya dropping Whittaker, but thereafter it was very technical and slower-paced. Both men traded careful combos on the feet, and it was very close. “The Last Stylebender” had more striking success especially with his leg kicks, but Whittaker implemented his grappling beautifully to achieve takedowns although he couldn’t keep Adesanya down for long. Universally, the fifth and last round was “The Reaper’s” strongest but it wasn’t enough to sway the judges.

Adesanya would be named the victor via unanimous decision and the chaos would soon ensue. With Michael Bisping and Daniel Cormier being accused of “bias”, and fighters chiming in with their opinion of what the scorecards should’ve read, or the fight as a whole. Chief among them was none other than Michael Chandler.

Michael Chandler Speaks on UFC 271

“Trust me, I love Izzy. But we have gotten to a point where a dominant champ just needs to stand there, throw a few shots per round and he will not lose unless he gets caught&he will always get the nod. Izzy got paid on this last contract…go FIGHT, don’t you dare spar. #UFC271” Michael Chandler said on Twitter.

Does he have a point? A prime example of this that people would point to would be Jon Jones and some of his title defenses, specifically the first Alexander Gustaffson fight and more recently his battle with Dominick Reyes. Both of these decisions by the judges’ were received terribly by fans, with the majority claiming the challenger should’ve been awarded the victory.

Another independent example of this would be the Georges St. Pierre vs Johnny Hendrix fight. After a close battle that Hendrix seemed to edge out, the decision went to GSP, at the outrage of seemingly everyone.

After Conor Mcgregor and Tyson Fury got into a spat recently on social media, it seems a day later and they’re still going at it.

It originated over Fury applauding Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s career but has since dissolved into out-right insults.

Mcgregor has since deleted his initial reply to Fury’s post but it read:

“Yup the Joyces. Big Joe ! U bottled it with Billy joe Da, what were you doing there ? ULeft him, Versace tw*t U.Done.Nothing. Ya’s did it right ye right hahahahaaj. Even when I’m wrong i’m right. Who did it right ? The Mac daddy tonight, in house. Miami d12! Bahamas [B.S.].”

Referencing the occasion where Fury stood by aimlessly as Billy Joe Saunders’ dad jumped a barrier to come to his aid and was roughly accosted by security.

The Conor Mcgregor and Tyson Fury Twitter War Escalates

Fury would later reply:

“come back when u win a fight mush, & the difference in me & you is i don’t get myself in trouble & people actually like me, your just a bully who hit old man, & yes Big up the hulk Joe, #morecambebay. in the house.” And in a different tweet: “@TheNotoriousMMA has done more tapping then MJ,s old dance shoes.”

Prompting Conor Mcgregor to come back with a volley of tweets:

(Now deleted) “Ah only 3 times, billy da. Now it’s toe tapping on the teak of my yachts. Big crystal glass full of Proper 12 in the paw. The lambo one has carbon fibre teak. Do you know what yacht teak is you big tick ? It’s cozy on the toes bare foot. Something you never done. You done nothin.”

Obviously, there’s some tension between these two, but do you think the premise of all this is ridiculous? It must surely speak volumes about Conor Mcgregor’s obvious disdain for Nurmagomedov that this all started due to a fan post Fury made for the Dagestani legend. UFC 271 was a thrilling event featuring the eloquent tones of the beloved Michael Bisping on commentary filling in for an absent Joe Rogan.

The card consisted of insane finishes, brutal wars, and had a little bit of everything featured for any type of fan to enjoy. Bisping got his first opportunity to call a PPV after Rogan’s inability and took it. The fights progressed with no issue about the commentary until the main event began, and some fans started to say “The Count” and Daniel Cormier were calling the fight with a “bias”.

Allegedly downplaying Robert Whittaker’s success and emphasizing Israel Adesanya‘s. Michael Bisping would address these accusations on Twitter, saying:

“Lots of people saying I has biased commentary. That’s crazy. I called it like I saw it. Big opening rounds for Izzy. Then real close rounds after that, but I had Izzy winning most. 5 was robs best round. 2 probably went to him also. Close fight, very technical, well done to both!”

Was Michael Bisping Biased?

The general consensus is that the judges got it right at UFC 271, awarding the decision to Adesanya. However, a lot of fans see it differently, including Whittaker himself.

“I thought I did enough,” Whittaker said at the post-event press conference. “I thought I did enough. Breaking it down, I think I lost the first round, I put myself back together. I think I beat him to every punch. I got takedowns. I thought I did enough, but it is what it is. That’s how work goes in the office. So I want to go back, evolve some more and get better. Fine tune the things that I’ve been working on, and come back a better man.”

Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier isn’t going to jail, but he says if he and Colby Covington fight they both will be.

The two fighters are former training partners out of American Top Team. However, behind the scenes friction between Covington and others at the gym caused a divide, and “Chaos” left to join MMA Masters. Speaking with The Mac Life Poirier talked about his beef with Covington, and why a UFC fight facing him will never happen.

“I’ll never fight Colby in an octagon where there’s finances on the line… If I fight Colby we’re both going to jail, I’m going to jail. I’m not going to fight him in the octagon, he’s not making money off my career, off what I’ve done. This is something different.”

When asked about the difference between this beef and the one “The Diamond” had with Conor Mcgregor, Poirier claimed the difference was the money involved. Insinuating that this feud with “Chaos” is much darker.

A Look At the Dustin Poirier vs Colby Covington Rivalry

It all started in July of 2021 when Colby Covington left ATT on a very bad note. The tension between him and the rest of his teammates (primarily Jorge Masvidal, Dustin Poirier, and Joanna J?drzejczyk) due to his brash and loud-mouth persona escalated until the point of him basically being asked to leave by the owner Dan Lambert. Here’s what Covington had to say about all this to MMA Fighting:

“A lot of people were sensitive, namely ‘Doufus’ Dustin [Poirier] and ‘Street Judas’ [Jorge] Masvidal… They had feelings. They don’t want to fight me in the cage. They’d rather go cry to Dan Lambert and beg him to protect their precious little feelings cause if they fight me in the cage, they know what’s going to happen. I’m going to tear them limb from limb,” Covington said.

“The last six months, I’m going into ATT, and Dustin or Jorge are in there, they’re screaming across the [gym]… I’m like let’s go. You want to fight, let’s fight right now. Stop talking this sh*t, creating drama in the gym so they have to make a decision like this or have to do a drastic action. But no, they just want to scream in front of coaches and disrupt all the pro fighters training because they don’t respect Dan and they don’t respect ATT. It’s pathetic.”

After the dust settled from that, Covington would also leak a video of Poirier knocking out an “amateur” sparring partner and “celebrating” after. Most recently, in another interview, “Chaos” wouldn’t hold back when discussing his feud with Poirier, even going so far as to trash-talking the man’s wife and his parenting:

“…He said it’s ‘on site’ in the media, he said: ‘when I see Colby it’s on site’ so I wanna keep these guys accountable for their street cred. Cause they’re talking all this sh*t in the media, but when it’s time to do business and get in the cage and actually fight they’re nowhere to be found. So, Dustin, you’re a f****** coward, your wife’s a h**… and you’re a piece of sh*t father.”

Conor McGregor

MMA’s biggest superstar Conor Mcgregor is known for having his fair share of Twitter clashes, and it’s happened again. This time with one of boxing’s heavyweight champions, Tyson Fury.

After Fury shared a picture of Khabib Nurmagomedov saying, “This man did it right. Got in & won & got out on top. Big respect @TeamKhabib,” Mcgregor seemed to take offense and replied taking a dig at Fury.

“Yup the Joyces. Big Joe ! U bottled it with Billy joe Da , what were you doing there ? ULeft him, Versace tw*t U.Done.Nothing. Ya’s did it right ye right hahahahaaj. Even when I’m wrong i’m right. Who did it right ? The Mac daddy tonight, in house. Miami d12! Bahamas [B.S.].”

Mcgregor is referencing the instance where Fury stood by and witnessed a clash between Billy Joe Saunders’ father and security during the aftermath of Saunders vs Canelo. After BJS left the ring with a fractured orbital, his father Tommy Saunders hopped a security barricade and was met with brutal force. Fury can be seen attempting to quell the attack but doesn’t appear to try very hard to do so. Here’s the clip:

Fury has since responded to McGregor taking shots at him.

“come back when u win a fight mush,” Fury wrote. “& the difference in me & you is i don’t get myself in trouble & people actually like me, your just a bully who hit old man, ? & yes Big up the hulk Joe, #morecambebay. in the house.”

What’s Going on With Conor Mcgregor?

Conor Mcgregor (22-6, 10-4 UFC) is in the midst of the roughest patch his illustrious career has ever seen. He’s riding a two-fight losing streak, and his last bout against Dustin Poirier ended in a gruesome fashion. 2-3 in his last five fights, you’d have to go back two years to find Mcgregor’s last win.

After the leg injury, “The Notorious” has been recovering and bulking up. With reports of him even reaching up to 190lbs, it’ll be interesting to see exactly what weight class we see him return at. Furthermore, the biggest question is who he returns against. Will it be someone like Tony Ferguson or Justin Gaethje? Or maybe a welterweight, like Robbie Lawler or even Nick Diaz?
